    I played this for grade 8 piano exam. This is the best version among all versions i have ever heard. Wish i have heard this when i was practising for the exam. It is so inspiring. And everything is just right about it. It is just as it should be.
    It totally shows the difference between how a concert pianist, as opposed to a student can play something so differently.

    One of my very favorite Debussy pieces played with such beauty and depth by the beautiful lady. I love watching Grimaud's face as she plays....shows such serenity and intensity of spirit.

    What I love about this is that it is very insistent and actually a little less wafty that what you often hear others do... it has a lot of depth... love the way she takes a piece and makes it her own

    Very beautifully done. Why does anyone have to play this exactly the way Debussy may have felt in 1888. That was over a century & a quarter ago. That is not today, the times and how the composition would touch someone now. Isn't that the beauty of art, to feel the freedom and the courage to express it according to how you were moved by it. This performance certainly moved me.

    Love the camera work starting from high above to close ups. Her piano work is amazing! If the video is Deutsche Gramophone in my opinion they have the best classical artists. I always look for their yellow banner. Helene Grimaud is an amazing concert pianist and I am sure she studied piano for years, and continually works on her discipline.

    This can still be played beautifully without changing it so much- as if somebody re-painted the “Water lilies” series but thought adding some yellow and separating the lily pads further here and there… somehow looked better to them.
    Of course it’s possible to paint a pond even better than Monet’s masterpieces, but not if you’re painting MONET’S paintings, ding dong.
    Paint your own, play your own. Otherwise tweaking something that’s already as well known and beautiful, original as-is that Debussy’s pieces are, comes off as arrogant and coddled.

    • @alondramojico6838
      @alondramojico6838 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      But is the essence of the Water Lilies in the distance between the individual lilies? I would argue that music is not dead and an artist is free to interpret it the way they see fit. Of course you are absolutely free to like it or not, but I do not think we seeadvancements in music if we do not allow the artist to build on what's given and then make their own changes.

    Ich mag weder den groben Klang noch diese schnellen Triolen, die sich nicht klar von den Achteln abheben... Sehr mittelmässige Studio- Einspielung von H. Grimaud... Schade!

    If you are in a melancholic mood , this music is great to hear , but ... I miss a central melody with a real deep sense ! It sounds like a lovely background for a good melody that does not come. In nowadays there is no search for good composers. Only those musicians who can withstand the high demands of concert tours make it to the top , but these are usually not people who are sensitive. They don't feel deep feelings , so they only develop a creativity that is rather primitive with bad melodies. I have composed a lot of great music , here are three classic music works from me ... for a ballet dance : th-cam.com/video/Fc9KH8OGOH8/w-d-xo.html for figure-skating performances : th-cam.com/video/dZfE4B-U61M/w-d-xo.html A melancholic and meditative classical music : th-cam.com/video/zOzbng3FmtY/w-d-xo.html I'm not a one-dimensional person. Here are two of my folklore compositions : th-cam.com/video/HebssFqVq98/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/3ZEu0RWC9jc/w-d-xo.html I am looking for a collaboration with a String-Trio or a small Orchestra. Who would like ? My email is shown in all videos !

    Je suis trés désolé, mais ce piano est trés abimé, son interprétation est bonne, romantique et parfois correcte; j'ais écoute deux oeuvres en TH-cam, est cette femme à amélioré beaucoup

    Cette inerprétation est évidemment du tres grand art; cependant, elle est peut-etre un peu trop sophistiquée; il y a dans cette piece quelque chose de populaire et d'éphèmere qui , je trouve, ne passe pas trés bien ici, un peu trop de sérieux, pas assez de légèreté, d'insouciance.

    It's French for god's sake. Could you possibly go any more overboard with the rubato? I get that everybody wants to be the most brilliant and unique interpreter that ever came down the pike, but there are moments here where the rhythm is completely unintelligible. Also, what's with everybody splitting the beat between the hands every other note? Is it supposed to make you sound more sensitive? Is everyone doing this now just because they've heard others doing it? Just play the music. You obviously have complete mastery of the instrument, so you are fully capable of a world class performance that actually sounds like Debussy. . . Or we can all keep trying to out express each other until a performance of this piece lasts two hours.

      Thank you for saying that. I hate how classical music has became a rather pretentious thing, caring more about technique and being unique instead of actually playing stylistically accurate and having an honest, candid emotion. This performance feels completely castrated to me.

    • @abbeykroeter
      @abbeykroeter 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank god (or whatever helps..). Somebody gets it. Though parts of this is as beautiful as any, I am so tired of the experience as well. I thought I was the only one, since it became so trendy to scold anyone not using glowing praise for anything ever the last five to ten years or so. “Toxic positivity” sounds only oxymoronic at first… but it’s definitely a phenomenon, feeding delusion and continuing confusion.
      I don’t mind all sorts of “versions” and tweaks to music from composers/writers still alive, that endorse it. Something like a piece from Debussy or any past masters, is equal in my brain as a painting from Da Vinci or sculpture from Michelangelo. Do what you want, but that is damned tacky, and don’t be so proud for reworking a masterpiece for pete’s sake.
      I’ve seen Warhol treatments and other cutesy twists applied to things that originally took tons more work and understanding to develop the first time created… and it’s bratty to me.
      There’s always some fancy argument about what art “is” and “how could we limit people like that…” and let everyone do whatever they want, etc…
      Well sure, they should do whatever they want, but self-flattery while assuming what they change on a beloved pinnacle of music is what we want to hear, reeks of the inability to know of they’ve ever shown disrespect. That’s the kind of mentality that thinks you’re interrupting them if you simply keep talking, after they obviously interrupted your sentence.
      There is a limit.

      Do you have any references for a quote from Debussy stating it should not be played with ruboto (or minimal ruboto). A great pianist or teacher having the same opinion then you is not a good reference by the way.
