  • The Suzuki GSX-R1000 is a fantastic motorcycle one of only two litre sports bikes designed with road users in mind. Greg bought one earlier this year and in this video we discuss why it was a better purchase for him than a super naked.

GSXR is still a superb machine, reliable and reasonably comfortable considering the performance on tap. It’s a relative bargain when you consider the prices of a V4s/rr. I’m seriously considering getting a used k7/8 as a summer machine after your purchase. Suzuki really know how to make a beautiful engine and gearbox! Very sad to hear that production is going to stop. 😢

Fun fact, the K6 GSXR1000 still to this day holds the record for the fastest 0-60 of any OEM production bike.
It's been since 2006 and nobody has yet to top it. Still winning Stock 1000 races against bikes double its price, and slapping everyone across the face in MotoGP this season.
Not to mention the comfort and low down torque, they are incredible bikes. My friend races his 2001 GSXR600 on circuit and its had 30,000 track only miles issue free. He has gopro footage passing modern liter bikes like the ZX10R, S1000RR and more.

Best to hold onto this one! One of the last gsxr1000s and probably also the end of the era of full fledged race bikes for the road. RIP GSXR1000, even without Suzukis support you’ve still been winning races world wide from moto america to motoGP. Big shame that the ZX10R falls on its face racing typically. Not sure why, rode one we have at work and it's "pretty good". The GSXR still had more to offer down low power wise, with a telepathic chassis, but the ZX10R looks damn good in its KRT livery. Comfort isn't as good either but it's a great bike. At the end of the day the GSXR kind of fills in the 1 bike for all tasks (aside from offroading). Sad to see them stall production, for now.

    • @monkmoto1887

@@jordanjoestar8839 yeah I agree, the variable valve timing on the Suzuki makes all the difference for sure, the zx10r is great to race with wide open but definitely not the back road bike the gsxr is. I’d ride either on the daily although I concede unless I was building a track or drag bike the gsxr is the obvious choice.

Also had 2020 gsxr 1000 lost it getting rear-ended at a stop light, and now have 22 S1000rr, honestly, it's not worth the price difference, and the riding position is almost identical. Yes BMW has more engine better brakes and better electronics but it's only 10% better for 33% higher cost. Also the GSXR with full tank was 1lb lighter than my bmw with full tank same supporting modes like full SS exhausts. It's true underrated machine and doesn't do well at track shoot outs because they always run the R over the base model and the r suspension is good for a 160lb rider max with soft springs where the base will hold up a 260lb person before maxing out the spring weight.

IMO the GSX-R1000R is what the Fireblade always was until the torture implement known as the CBR1000RR-R, the GSX-R is flexible, comfortable (for a sports bike) and flatters your ability the way the older 'Blades did.

It’s nice to hear a mature and sensible bike opinion. I had 750 k7 and it was a great bike but I’ve always missed my past triple engine. Out of these 3 I would take the Daytona in yellow for the looks and the sound. I would be too terrified to ride the h2 which is the most amazing bike here.

The GSXR being seen as a sensible bike now is quite funny really. Remember in the old days where they had a reputation for hooligan riders, burn out, wheelie merchants and every other bike in a ditch was a Suzi soon to be reborn as a street fighter. 😂🤘

I had K3, K5 and I still have 2018 gsxr1000r. My favorite was the K5. The GSXR1000R is good, comfy, but very jerky on the throttle in A mode on the road, around 4000rpm. I prefer sportsbike in the city traffic, actually, they are way narrower. I prefer the look of GSXR, too, but S1000RR is also comfortable and it is not jerky at all. QS is absolutely amazing on the GSXR! I miss heated grips on GSXR, cruise control would be nice to have but heated grips are a necessity!

I too have had my Euro 5 690 remapped, one for rideability and two because it can't be good for the engine running so lean as it does from factory.
I can confirm that the ridability is brilliant now the fueling/ignition has been altered and it's totally changed the bike. I'm sure you felt similar on yours Chopsy when fitting the power commander 👌🏼 .

Great vid, really enjoyed this & good to see Greg back. Also totally agree about the GSXR & everything that was said. Looks like there's definitely not going to be one in their European range next year but wouldn't be surprised to see them pull a Hayabusa move & bring it back after a year off. Speaking of which, if they do make a new one, it'll no doubt have the GSXS GT TFT & Hayabusa electronics. Also rumours of a patented Suzuki shift cam engine in the works as well. Also hoping they'll bring the GSXR750 back too as the market seems to be heading that way with the likes of the R9 coming out soonish so the time might be right. Fingers crossed but not holding my breath for any new GSXRs tbh.

I still ride my '98 ZX7-R, which believe it or not I bought from new and is still fun, but awful in town. Not a patch on my other bike a '20 speed triple RS which I bought to slow myself down (that's not working though, collected 3 points within a couple of months on that one)

Such a shame there will be no new GSXR1000, it's a great bike and arguably the best road bike of the superbikes. I have a 2017 R model and it does everything I need it to. The anti wheelie struggles to keep the front down in first but once moving down the back roads you can forget its even got electronics fitted, I can still ride it how I want with wheelies and jumps over crests, (on track obviously) without interference. Did my first ever track day on it at oulton park in April this year after 26 years of riding sports bike, and it was amazing, only did 2 sessions as I had S22's fitted which were looking terrible after the 2nd session so thought I would be best to stop. Kept the tyres on for the rest of the year without issue apart from the 2 weeks of the TT where they really took a hammering and looked nearly as bad as after the trackday. Rs11's now fitted so have a few track days planned for next year. Hopefully Suzuki will bring back the gsxr better than ever in a year or 2.

Been back and forth with Tuonos, RS660, nakeds (have 890r) and BMW, street triples but yeah 20k, insane insurance costs on liter bikes and wind on naked bikes are brutal.....plus the fact they still sell these 750s in the states.....think the HP is perfect around 130 mark.....never ridden one but am considering just getting a GSXR 750
really wanted cruise control though and QS....
base model tuono may still be on radar but more and more the zook is good option....am sure aftermarket is huge on these as well

I'm pretty sure that Suzuki is just taking a break while they develop a new Euro 5 compliant GSX-R1000. I highly doubt they will abandon their flagship Superbike altogether. GSXR enthusiasts need to put their pennies aside now because the new bike is coming in the next few years.

Got the exact same model and I think Suzuki won’t produce a newer one. Maybe this is the last of the era. Every time put smile on face when riding. I was looking for a full exhaust and remap, but now (in France), they will control gaz emissions and if the catalyzer is still there… Don’t want to swap the whole system every 2 years.
