What do you mean exactly by build up a reputation? I am looking to get into the sport, but don't really know any other way than to just front the money.
@@Faltar06 Get you name and car known around the track...a good reputation as a driver, its pretty self explanatory, sponsors wanna have their name associated with popular drivers, your a mobile billboard around the race scene lol
Yes one can race and be competitive but it takes a lot of elbow grease to do that, all the folks that are successful have that in common. A thought. Since it’s been a while how much more expensive to have Leagon or Blackwell to do you heads and recommend a cam. Back several years ago one of the folks I helped did that, got a local auto machine shop to do the machine work on the bottom end and had the heads reworked by one of the above. Saved a few bucks but the performance was improved. You may have done this if so my bad
James Dedmon we have used Blackwell for machine work on our current motor. We’re going to look at some options for next year. I built this one on a very limited budget; our heads are pretty much stock but the rest of it is decent stuff. Thanks for the advice and watching!👍
Hey, great job detailing the actual costs and options !! Thank you for taking the time to do that and post it. My costs are right in line with what you have said, but I am unsponsored, difficult to do as a hobby and be a serious up front contender... I can drive it but my son is the real racer of my machine.
THANK YOU! I’m 16 and my buddies and I are putting together a WISSOTA street stock. I e been trying to look on the internet for help, but you explained it really well. I watched the over video about starting as well. Again, very informative and helpful. Thank you

Our local tracks are trying g to make it more affordable in 3 of 5-6 classes by using the GM 602 Crate engines. Only difference in the divisions engine is Carb size. 2 or 4 barrel. But evn those limited in cfms.

I really enjoy your videos. Im at carolina every fri and i found myself pulling for ya. Keep up the good work and good clean driving youll be in victory lane b4 you know it
I can second this. My cavalier mini mod I paid $1000 roughly to install the roll cage. Gutting the car cost me about 2 weeks and it's a long process. The parts is where you're gonna go broke, the better the parts the more you're gonna spend like with any car. The wheels have to be exchanged too so it's about a couple hundred for Hoosier fit rims.
Thinking of taking my son's Dodge Caliber and racing it at local dirt track. Not looking to be front runner...just have fun and the thrill. 61 too old to race?
You can have a lot more motor than that for 5k, also you dont need racing fuel for a basically stock motor, you only need it until you start bumping up the compression ratio in the 11 to 1 or up neighborhood. Other that that you a ok. Best thing for someone that wants to race on a budget is to run a limited schedule, like once a month or 4 times a year, that alone will save you a ton....
The motor I originally started with in this video actually needed to be fixed at the machine shop so I threw that in on the price, also the class that I ran required us to run VP 110 or "track fuel' as they called so unfortunately it wasn't an option to run pump gas
my dads friend from work is giving me his thunder stock it needs the engine rebuilt btw my dad was a racer back in 1986 he used a Nova hobby stock class

I never had a Sponsor when I race and when my son races. I think with a sponsor I have watched with these drivers. Drivers do not seem to care about the car because there sponsor is going to pay for it. That's why I never had a sponsor, I just used my head racing. Without crashing or blowing the thing up. This is a great video. I’m a Legends racer in Gastonia looking to transition to Dirt in Thunder Bombers. I plan to watch all your videos. Maybe I’ll stop by and say hell, I plan to spend some time at ELS and Carolina this year.
@markhenry15 Nah, I built a Hickory car. I'm retired now and the little man drives Wing Karts at Millbridge Speedway. Funny thing is I've never been on Dirt. He's bever been on Asphalt. We might cya at Carolina Speedway Inna few years.
I did a new build In 2023 and I'm still dumping money into it. I have over 30K into this car. But that is a complete new built, 90% of the components/parts are brand new.
Make sure you ask a knowledgeable person before buying anything especially used stuff. There's alot guys trying to sell absolute junk parts and cars to unsuspecting new comers to the sport.
And be realistic. If you really like sprint cars but only have 8 grand to work with realise you could buy a turd of a car and just putz around in the back or you could buy a street stock and actually have something decent and be able to race competitively and have fun.
Building a car is always more expensive than what you think. Nobody truly remembers every nickel and dime they put into it. Driving around to pick up parts, nuts, bolts, rivets, welding supplies, long nights in the shop with coffee and fast food runs. Drill bits, fuel lines , buying tools you only use once for oddball jobs. Buying a winning car turn key cash is always cheaper in the long run.
I raced asphalt street stocks in PA (Now looking to get into a asphalt Modified in the WV/VA area) I raced 10 inch Slicks and we would put 4 new tires on the car every 4-5 weeks, just wondering on the dirt how often you put new tires on the car or do you buy like 6 tires at the beginning of the season and the last all season. Good luck and keep digging.
Any high horsepower class requires new rear tires every week or every other week if the track isnt real slick. I get 3 or 4 weeks out of a set in a crate late model. But I flip the rear tires constantly.

Also this is for a Wissota Street Stock. Plus they don't require a fire extinguisher in your car yeaa. Plus that's just for one year.
That 3200 on the car is that the weight requirements for that class and thank you for your opinion on gloves very important listen up guys very important
