Every time I walk past my xj I hear a sucking sound.....except it's coming from my wallet! Nice job im going to do this install myself. I think I'm just going with rubber hose though for my breather.
Rhd XJ’s still run the battery on the passenger side & have the alternator up top where the ac compressor would typically be similar to a TJ or WJ….really like this cowl setup nice video I was just thinking about making one of these for my wj trail buggy so I can continue pulling in air not drinking water 🤣 thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! That’s crazy the alternator is up there, is the ac compressor where the alternator is then? I don’t blame you there lol if it’s for a dedicated trail rig that’s beat up I would make some out of some PVC pipe or something so you can make it exactly how you want!
Hey brother is there anywhere that I can get that bracket that goes onto the firewall My XJ was stolen and pretty much stripped recovered but they destroyed the bracket where the cold air intake went through the firewall why they wanted my filter and prefilter I have no idea they left a tube and all the rest but they destroyed the bracket any suggestions thank you

@@kennygraves489 that’s good man! I kinda want to get a grand Cherokee project too but having 2 money pits might be overwhelming at the moment lol. And the rtt on a motorcycle trailer idea is AWESOME! tents nowadays are so light and the power to weight ratio of a bike should make easy work towing that tent around! I’m surprised I haven’t seen that setup yet.
How deep of water have you had it in? I like the idea of a snorkel, but do not like the idea of cutting into my fender nor do I like the way it makes a vehicle look when mounted to the a pillar.
I’ve had it in about 35” tire deep water 😬 I’m not the biggest fan of snorkels either cause of the same reason and this cowl intake and a snorkel are the only true cold air intake IMO
Hey James! Found you guys on 2nd Hand Overland. Great stuff! Quick question about this mod. I know it has only been a couple of months since you put this on, but is there anything else you have noticed that might be worth mentioning? I live in FL and we get a decent amount of rain, any thoughts on water getting to the filter? I know the cowl vent is mostly sealed, but just wondering if you have had any experience with this yet? Thanks!
Thanks for watching man! Matt is such an awesome guy and we appreciate that he highlighted our channel! The only thing that I can tell you about is there’s a sucking sound that you hear in the cab when you first start up the jeep and when you have to get on the gas to pass or gain speed quick other than that it’s been great. Unfortunately being in AZ we haven’t had a ton of rainfall like FL. but I have power washed the cowl and really tried to get water to go into the area by the filter to test it and I haven’t had a problem at all on startup. And how there’s a 1/2in rubber lip on the outer cone of the filter there’s no way for the fabric of the filter itself to touch any water that goes in the area. It would have to be an insane amount of rain coming in to have a chance to suck in water. I honestly think you’ll be fine with this kit with proper installation 😊. I really hope this helped man and I can’t wait to put out some more good content for everybody!
@@2AOverland I've had mine for a good 6 years and I've never had an issue on or off road, dirt or pouring rain. If you strategically line the inside of the firewall with sound deadening mat it will not only help with the sucking noise (I kinda dig it myself) it will also make sure to seal up the space. Thanks for sharing!!
@jasper Q I like the sucking sound too now lol at a certain rpm I get a whistle though so I have to avoid that on the highway but good call on the sounds deadener in there 🤔
Did you happen to notice if the window you cut in the firewall also gives you enough access to the AC cabin vent? Mines leaking water onto my passenger floor board when it Rains and I wanna get it sealed up. Would be a 2for1 if so haha
From what I remember I didn’t have access to the cabin vent from the cowl 😬 I used to do Autoglass back in the day and some people would get leaks like that from the bottom of their windshield not being seal correctly on the bottom 😅 that might be the case for you
@@2AOverland it's possible but I know it's super common for these to leak at the port in the cowl bc they sealed it with foam tape 🤦♂️ a lot of people cut a window in the top of the cowl on passenger side
Thanks for watching! I got that years and years ago from 4wp. The only difference I felt was the slightest bit of better throttle response and that’s it. If you can get one for a good deal I’d say get it
That’s a good price! I spent way too much for mine lol. I’m really happy I got a 96 too over some of the other years. We really appreciate you watching the channel we’ll keep the Jeep and camping vids coming!
Definitely have to say the spacer didn’t do much for power a touch of response but I mainly wanted it to raise the throttle body up a little in the hope of keeping water out…we have a dry system so that basically means we only have air pads thru the throttle body they add allot more power on a wet system since it allows a little more time for the air & fuel to blend together if that helps I haven’t found a quicker way to explain the reason but that’s about it
@@2AOverland I got the WJ one for the WJ. Need to get an angle grinder so I can cut the firewall to mount it. But the engine bays are different, with the XJ you can see clearly where it would go. The WJ is slightly different as there was an option for an 8 cylinder so the engine bay has more room.
Oh gotcha! It’s so hard to remember who has what rigs 😂😩. I hope you don’t have to move or remove too much to get to the spot to cut for the intake. I know the owner of the company is a super helpful and cool guy so he might not mind if you contact him if you have questions about the install

Don't know if your question regarding the right hand driver battery box was answered. I'm here to say the left hand driver European export battery box is on the driver's side.
looks like its a cooker for that tube, not going to work, u be better going down to the old box line 90 straight to driver then 90 straight to front grill. and pop a hole where the headlights are then the tube runs over the fender well and the air from the front ram air as well ..you got sealed battery's throw both in back, and get a rack . Patch that and put your aux oil filter get rid of the stock filter mount. same parts. nice rig bro ..mPr 98 Cherokee renegade
Just a work to the wise, that air filter is hot garbage. It has no business on an offroad vehicle. Fine dust will go right through it and ruin your motor. Ask me how I know. Dont believe me? Run it, go for a nice dusty ride. Pull that intake pipe and look inside.
This is a bad design if you off road , hit a big enough puddle or threw a creek etc and that wave of water is gonna go down that tube like a funnel … good idea but not good
Thanks for watching! The cowl on the passenger side doesn’t let water in, only on the drivers side. And both sides of the cowl have drains in case of that issue. There’s a video on the THOR TH-cam channel about questions regarding that stuff with intake, and I’ve talked to the owner of the company about those issues too.
I wish somehow I knew you were gonna do this, so I could have stopped you… 1. Beside the fact that filter is friggin horrible at actually filtering air, it’s gonna be a pain in the ass just to check it. 2. If you get water in your cowl, it is a down hill straight shot right into the motor. Hauk off-road has the only viable solution. Their design retains the factory air box and it’s excellent filtration capability

Wait do you have to remove the plastic cowl piece? How does it intake fresh air if the cowl plastic piece is still there?
There’s holes in the plastic cowl piece on the passenger side so it pulls in air from there
