Avoiding conflicts in relationships

  • Constantly avoiding conflict doesn’t preserve the relationship; it prevents it from reaching its fullest potential.
Whether it's the fear of being rejected, wanting to keep the peace, having unresolved issues from our past, or simply not knowing how to express ourselves... opting out of conflict might seem like the easier and safer option in the moment. But the thing is, consistently evading conflict is hindering our relationships more than helping them. When we avoid these challenging conversations, we’re missing out on invaluable opportunities to deepen our connections and truly understand one another.
Sometimes, it’s in the thick of disagreement and misunderstanding that we have the chance to lay our cards on the table, to share our innermost thoughts and feelings, and in turn, to see and understand our loved ones. And sure, being this vulnerable can be uncomfortable and downright scary sometimes, but it’s in this vulnerability that we’re able to build trust in authentic connections.
So, instead of steering clear from tough conversations, embrace them. View them as a pathway to stronger, more resilient relationships. Because at the end of the day, it's through overcoming such challenges together that we forge connections that are not just deep but are also enduring.

Great video. These past few months has been an eye opener for me, the one I love, the one i cherish still Left me, I lost alot of friends because of her, she often said they were bad influence on me, and she still left me, i still love her and that is what hurts the most. Love sometimes is unexplainable and cruel

I feel your pain, Believe me I do, i was in a similar position, he left me, but i couldnt just let him go because i knew i was the cause of it, i chose my work over him and the kids, I didnt want to loose him, so i contacted a spiritual counsellor for advice on how to get him back and to my greatest surprise it worked out, she brought him back to me, and its been over a year and half, i have never been this happy

witnessing conflicts as a child put me in a "avoidance" stage in my teens. Now I know when its time to work through a conflict or when to reflect on it and then to work on it.
I realised, i shared a lot on your channel one after another, this channel actually helps when you don't realise you need it and it settles the mind. Thank you.

Super underrated account. I could live without the theatrical music but the way you explain things and your facial expressions.. I’m drawn to your shorts. Not even talking about the content thats hitting right home

This hits too close to home. My 3 year relationship ended because of this. Whenever I used to address an issue, my boyfriend used to get defensive. He used to say things like "Oh yeah, sure, it's all my fault". This made me not wanting to open upto him, which then led me to be emotionally distant. And when that happened, he broke up with me because he felt that I didn't love him the way I used used to.
I hope your video reaches more people to help them understand that conflict is not a blame-game.

Me and my family are like this. Peace above all they say, don’t start any conflicts, even if your sister does something to you don’t retaliate, because then it’s your fault for disrupting the peace.

So true! The issue is, when you stopped avoiding the conflict because the individual is unable to discuss any such matters, and ends up blame shifting and gaslighting. Then, as a result, resentment builds in addition to the lack of all forms of intimacy.

I have this problem with my housemate. We only share a little bit of common room, but mostly keep to ourselved and our own rooms. However, I like having things tidy and clean, he doesn't. It affects me a lot but I feel like I'm making too big a deal out of it. I don't talk to him about my feelings on this matter, so I haven't talked to him in weeks, I find it difficult to have any communication at all. I know what you're saying is true and I should fix this, but it's really hard and I keep finding excuses not to do it. It's exhausting me.

    Hi, Matthias!
    Big fan.
I have this friend of mine who is very dear to me, but who seems to be avoiding me. I've been abroad for a year and we haven't kept much in contact with each other for that time. Now's been about 7 months since I got back from abroad, but we barely interacted outside of a handful of friend gatherings over tabletop gaming.
I really want to break out the question "Are you avoiding me?" but I don't want to sound accusatory or aggressive about it. Do you have any advice on how I should best approach him regarding this issue?
    Many thanks!

      @hexoson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

Everyone is worthy of intimacy, some people just need to work on themselves to have healthy relationships. A coward still wants to be loved, perhaps the lack of love in their life makes it more difficult to confront these feelings and learn/grow. When people like you give up on them when they're in a vulnerable moment of expressing their thoughts and feelings instead of helping them grow, they will feel more strongly about their feelings of loneliness and you will continue to live your life as a bitter, resentful person who lacks empathy.
