    9 out of 10 times, my hiccup starts *THE VERY MOMENT* I put my head on the pillow to go to sleep... When i hicc, I don't play around, I do it loud and aggressively, and I don't stop... I can literally hicc for 2-4 hours and there's no sleep that night. I'm familiar with the other 3 methods, which never work, but the paperbag one is new to me. I'll try that one. Definitely worth a try. And the explanations as to the why, how and when seem reasonable to me.
    On a sidenote, my hiccups have drastically decreased in frequency to now being quite rare since I started on healthy Keto, so clearly something has changed. Eric Berg has been my main mentor on the keto path, and it has been a major success, major benefits, so much appreciation from me. I'm grateful.

    This might sound insane but I learned how to stop my hiccups by doing very slow and deep inhales, calming my brain and thinking to myself “I am no longer going to hiccup” I do my best not to anticipate the next hiccup. And I swear to god it stops instantly. I even tried this method with friends and it worked! They were astounded. I’m convinced more than ever that The mind is a very powerful tool. And we probably can do far more then we’re taught with it.

I use this practice now, when necessary. It felt like it had smth to do with air pressure in the "pipes" or some inner "tubes"🙂. Slow, deep breathing and raised arms. Dr. Berg, I have R-CPD (inability to burp for others reading), and my hiccups usually occurs when I intake excessive carbonated beverages. At one point, my hiccups have lasted for over a month without pause. Are my hiccups also likely to be related to the CO2/O2 disassociation curve or would it be necessary to take treatment to train my ability to burp? - It is worth noting that during the month of where the hiccups persisted, I do believe I had excessive levels of stress which would have affected my O2 intake.

    I can stop hiccups. I have done this to many people and can only remember one that was a "tough case". How? Do this: Get the person to sit right in front of you. No laughing, giggling or talking. Tell them to STARE into your eyes as you stare into theirs. Tell them to look at nothing but into your eyes. Tell them to hold this position for at least 30-60 seconds. Then ask them to hiccup. They cannot! It really, really works! People have thought I was some sort of hiccup magic maker by doing this. I don't know why it works but it does in most all cases.

    Hiccups are also caused by pressure on the vagus nerve.
    From the Mayo Clinic:
    "Nerve damage or irritation A cause of long-term hiccups is damage to or irritation of the vagus nerves or phrenic nerves, which serve the diaphragm muscle. Factors that may cause damage or irritation to these nerves include: A hair or something else in your ear touching your eardrum A tumor, cyst or goiter in your neck"

      Friend, you just helped me out big time! I had a lumbar epidural for my spine pain earlier today, and this evening I came down with a case of the hiccups that wouldn’t go away for hours on end. It’s a common side-effect to the injection, and it was driving me mad because I couldn’t sleep (it was too late to call my doc for help). I tried over a dozen TH-cam remedies over and over again (even my own typical hiccup cure had zero effect), even combining a few of them. I would’ve looked insane to anyone who saw me 😅. I finally stumbled across your comment here on Dr Berg’s video, and your technique was the ONLY one that stopped the onslaught of hiccups. Thank you to the moon and back, and I hope others who are suffering can find your comment! 🙌

I did get trauma to my ribcage and could feel vibration and snapping around my diaphram also it affected my heart, there was an issue there and gurgling.. Drinking water upside down ALWAYS works for me because you are supposed to place your diaphragm right over the edge of the bed so you are stretching it out to stop the spasm. Hold as much water in your mouth as possible, keep it in your mouth, flip over onto a bed or couch with your diaphragm right over the edge, take small gulps of the water, take 4 or 5 more gulps once the water is done, then just breathe. Flip over and no hiccups

    So why don’t hiccups occur when one works out? Lots of oxygen intake then. I get hiccups often but never during cardiovascular exercise.

    • @markiesparky
      @markiesparky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My guess is because the body needs more O2 during exercise and probably struggles to reach that O2/CO2 balance let alone go over?

    • @Drberg
      @Drberg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because you adapting to increased CO2 at the same time. Working out doesn't lower CO2 BUT very good question.

    Thanks, Doc. In the past I have actually drank H2O upside down and it usually works, but not always. I had no idea it was an excess of CO2. If I ever get hiccups again I'll try the holding breath, breathing slowly, or even a bag. Also, for those suffering acid reflux, I used to also but got rid of that with a 3 day fast; you'd be amazed how your body can heal over a 3 day fast, including your immune system. Cheers.

      @@experimenthealthyketo83 yeah but it is horrible if get mouthfuls of acid in the night or when you cough on it and it goes up into your sinuses. • @experimenthealthyketo83
      @experimenthealthyketo83 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rosedolch8637 I see. This is going to look crazy but these tablets and the milk worsen this situation. As explained in Dr Berg’s videos on acid reflux/gerd, ect, this situation happens because there’s not enough acid in the stomach and the stomach muscle squeezes itself in the attempt to find more acid to do its work of digesting. So by squeezing, some of the little stomach acid remaining splashes up in the œsophages tube, throat, ect. Because the stomach is in painful need of more acid to digest the foods you gave him to digest! Dr Berg explained all this in a less crazy way in videos on stomach acid. I hope this will help you.

    I suffer from hiccups quite frequently compared to a normal person, but they're mostly triggered by dry food like sausages, bread (well, that's not an issue anymore since I do keto!) or even cheese. I found a 2-seconds ready method...that also tastes good 🙂 take a teaspoon of sugar. Add fresh lemon drops on it (lemon must completely soak the sugar). Take a big breath and eat it all at once. done! It took me longer to write this than it takes to do it. Sometimes, when the hiccup is really strong, one might need to take two teaspoons. I read it somewhere ages ago....I used it all my life, and use it on my daughter too, passing the knowledge through generations 😅 You're welcome.

    You can also "think off" hiccups if you know how. It's almost like a meditative state. Once you pass the period when a hiccup was due, you can feel a slight anxious buildup in your chest. If you stay focused (holding your breath may help but best you just STOP breathing, not HOLD it which is done by locking. If you lock your breath shut you won't be relaxed).
    It varies but usually if you pass that hiccup when it was due and stay relaxed and focused, it'll go away in about 2 mins. Sometimes if you go right back to eating or drinking it'll restart. Like I said you can usually "feel" when you're clear to go back to normal.
    The quicker the hiccups the harder this method usually is to succeed with but I've done it for years. Now at about a 75% success rate.
