This change isn't exactly new, it actually stems from P3 Portable. I heard from someone else, their explanation as to why they chose to go the P3P route is because of the lack of cultural context. A lot of international fans usually interpret a hug as a means to comfort someone in distressing situations regardless of your relationship with that person whether they'd be your friend, family or your lover. That's why a lot of fans end up hugging her. But in Japan, a hug between the opposite sex who's not a part of your family is automatically considered a romantic gesture so that's why it was extra disrespectful to Yukari as not only did you make her feel belittled but you also crossed a boundary. But perhaps Atlus realized this and saw how many people never even bothered to finish Yukari's social link because of how difficult it was to remove her reversal. It could also be they thought that romantic gesture just isn't what's needed in that exact moment in time. Either way, this is all just speculation and I always appreciated the nuance the original gave you but not much we can do about that. I still loved Yukari's social link in Reload regardless especially with Heather Gonzales's vocal performance.
I dunno about the whole "subconscious belief" thing Maybe some people but alot of people probably saw it as an innocent attempt to comfort a friend. Not because they're weak but because we're all human. Nobody can handle everything on their own.
it was always a feature in persona 3, but they never implemented it in P4 and P5 (tho there were leaks back then that "social link" or confidant reversal were planned in P5) edit: I worded this too poorly, what I meant to say that It was always a feature in persona 3, but P4 didn't had the reverse social link to each and every arcana
It was originally reversed if you hugged Yukari. Due to the differences in what hugs mean in different places, players who wanted to hug Yukari to comfort her ended up breaking her link as the hug here was actually meant to be perceived in a romantic context instead. Or something like that, idk
these 3 punks: we're gonna beat the shit out of you makoto: look pal. im literal friends with death, and i can either call him over here, or send you to him personally.
Can't believe they changed it so you go from reversing Yukari's link from hugging her to now just being straight-up sexist. But at least the bad option is way clearer now lol
I don't see anything wrong with this option, though - it was three guys versus one girl, when girls like Yukari are, biologically, physically weaker due to sexual dimorphism (all else being equal, such as diet, exercise, training, numbers, etc., males have superior bodily strength and stamina than females, meaning they hit harder and can stay in the fight longer). So yes, when it's three guys versus one girl, and the girl doesn't have a weapon of any kind (not even pepper spray), she DID need a fellow boy's help, because she's a girl. What was Yukari supposed to do, when she doesn't have her bow and arrows or her Persona? Get ganged up on and beaten to a pulp, unable to hit as hard as her attackers? This is only as "sexist" as basic biology, and physical differences between the sexes, dictates.
The thing that is wrong is that the only reason he saved her was due to her being a girl, when any normal person would save anyone regardless of gender if they were fighting 3v1
The issue is that it was not only completely unnecessary to bring up gender here, it also actively belittled her. Anyone would’ve needed help if they’re ganged up on by three people. If you think “because you’re a girl” is a valid thing to say to her in this situation you’re just a misogynistic moron, sorry.
@@laravioliiii2832while I agree that if my friend was in a 1v3 I would help regardless of gender, having a girl who's already disadvantaged against 3 dudes is a situation that calls for a lot more urgency than if it was Sanada or Aragaki. I understand your reasoning tho.
@@TwinkleStar707 Yeah but then if you say the second option she says shes a strong women who dont need no man and ignores that mc saved her ass. She's psycho
Oh that's neat I didn't know this was a thing I followed her as well and protected her but chose the first option I believe. But this part of the social link made me dislike her. But that was until rank 9 of the social link that I started liking her.
You spend extra days trying to make amends with that person and must pick the right answer during those conversations. Back in the original, failing this would turn the reversal into break, which would cause permanent loss of that link for the rest of the story.
In the vanilla P3 and FES. In those games, hugging Yukari will cause a revesal. This was changed in P3P which removed the hugging with another option that does not cause a reversal (if not mistaken).
It is. You must spend more time talking to that person and pick the right answer in order to make amends with them. I wish this thing was removed, it was such a pain in the original.
It was a thing in the original version too. If that happens, you gotta spend time making amends with that person in order to put things back the way they were or you won't be able to proceed any further with that link. Back in the original, there was also link break, which was worse than reversal. If you picked the wrong choice trying to make amends during reversal status, it would turn into break and that link would be lost and impossible to recover. Those features were a pain back then because they would put you in a very strict and tight schedule all the time and attempting to max all links in a single play through was extremely hard even with guides.
I remember in OG he just brutally disintegrated these punks without any words. Unlike here( Also, I like this reversal in original - you know, when a woman is almost sexually harassed, you don't want to touch her. It was a stupid decision, and you paid for it by reversal. And here it's kind of like... meh...
A hug simply just isn't a clear enough bad option Hugs mean different things to different cultures in Japan a hug is a mere romantic gesture but in other places its merely a show of comforting someone Another example: in Europe people kiss eachother the cheek as a greeting but if you did this in america that other person probably wouldn't be okay with that

NO, you are not exclusive in being emphatic if you don't critisize anyone. Hypocrisy and toxic positivity != respect and empathy. Insensitivity and honesty != rudeness. Women are OBJECTIVELY physically weaker than the men and telling that you fend of bullies that could beat her up, kidnap her and rape her because she is a girl is COMPLETELY OK and not an insult. They are not prey, they are hunters that specifically seek validation and moral superiority at the cost of others at any point of their pathetic life.
Not much of a change, it was a thing back in the original ps2 version and was a pain to deal with it, specially with girls, they would easily get jealous if you talked to another girl even if not in romance and you get reversal for it.
@@Bruce_Fernandes In the original you got a bad result if you weren't conscious of Yukari's feeling. Here, you get a bad outcome by being a sexist prick. Considering I heard that a hug would be seen as a romantic gesture (in Japan?), I think giving a hug to Yukari would make her feel uncomfortable and also feel you only do things because you like like her not because you’re friends or she needs help. But due to hugs not being seen as romantic and can be seen as platonic (in other countries), many players outside of Japan may try to hug her as a way to apologize. Although, I do realize that hugging her when she says ‘I didn’t need your help’ does sound kinda stupid, rather than apologizing or explaining your actions.
I dunno about the whole "subconscious belief" thing
Maybe some people but alot of people probably saw it as an innocent attempt to comfort a friend. Not because they're weak but because we're all human.
Nobody can handle everything on their own.
huh was this new? i swear this was in the og game
instead of hugging her, you have a new dialogue option
02:22
it was always a feature in persona 3, but they never implemented it in P4 and P5 (tho there were leaks back then that "social link" or confidant reversal were planned in P5)
edit: I worded this too poorly, what I meant to say that It was always a feature in persona 3, but P4 didn't had the reverse social link to each and every arcana
It was originally reversed if you hugged Yukari. Due to the differences in what hugs mean in different places, players who wanted to hug Yukari to comfort her ended up breaking her link as the hug here was actually meant to be perceived in a romantic context instead. Or something like that, idk
ah i see that males sense@@Ciel_Low

Can't believe they changed it so you go from reversing Yukari's link from hugging her to now just being straight-up sexist. But at least the bad option is way clearer now lol

Best girl.

? Misogyny? It is true that girls are much easier to pray on by people with ill will.
So how do you remove the reversal?
You spend extra days trying to make amends with that person and must pick the right answer during those conversations.
Back in the original, failing this would turn the reversal into break, which would cause permanent loss of that link for the rest of the story.
You can also pick a fortune in the shrine to try to repair it
Or just load a save from before and avoid screwing it up
Just reload your save file and do it all over again.
Pretty much what Persona players do, especially when you messed up during the Exams Part.
The lovers went to the lovers?
In your worthless head
Instead of reversing the slink the game should just delete the save files if you pick that option tbh
You choose that kind of response in this situation of course it's going to get that response, should have just stuck with I'm sorry
commenters don't know this change is actually from portable and not at all new to the remake
In the vanilla P3 and FES. In those games, hugging Yukari will cause a revesal.
This was changed in P3P which removed the hugging with another option that does not cause a reversal (if not mistaken).

Link reversal?
It was a thing in the original version too. If that happens, you gotta spend time making amends with that person in order to put things back the way they were or you won't be able to proceed any further with that link.
Back in the original, there was also link break, which was worse than reversal. If you picked the wrong choice trying to make amends during reversal status, it would turn into break and that link would be lost and impossible to recover.
Those features were a pain back then because they would put you in a very strict and tight schedule all the time and attempting to max all links in a single play through was extremely hard even with guides.

Not to mention the hidden jealousy mechanic.
I remember in OG he just brutally disintegrated these punks without any words. Unlike here( Also, I like this reversal in original - you know, when a woman is almost sexually harassed, you don't want to touch her. It was a stupid decision, and you paid for it by reversal. And here it's kind of like... meh...
A hug simply just isn't a clear enough bad option
Hugs mean different things to different cultures in Japan a hug is a mere romantic gesture but in other places its merely a show of comforting someone
Another example: in Europe people kiss eachother the cheek as a greeting but if you did this in america that other person probably wouldn't be okay with that

@@potatoesblink3299 It's very difficult to not be rude when literally anything NON-Positive said about anyone(including women) sounds as an insult because of exponantional increase in sensitivity in a last decade because of rise of social media platforms and mass forming of "safe space" bubbles in the internet which would filter anything negative on a spectrum as an INSULT and direct offence.
NO, you are not exclusive in being emphatic if you don't critisize anyone. You can pinpoint the weakness of other people, you can speak about others negatively and still be empathetic and kind to others, while genuinely wanting to help them.
That's exactly why I pointed out "Soy-infused" phrase. It is quite new victim-mentality behavior where weak but cunning people try to be hypersensitive about anything and play as a victim in any situation to gain an upper ground against others and get people behind their backs. They are not prey, they are hunters that specifically seek validation and moral superiority at the cost of others at any point of their pathetic life.
@@may292nah, she just doesn't want to be looked down just because she's a girl
This change is dumb.
Original wanted you to consider more subtle things about the situation and the character. The remake just went "don't be a jerk bro". This is actually quite the change.
She doesn’t need to be comforted, but having you explain yourself or apologize is worth more than a hug out of no where.
@@KuroNoTenno I understand the change from hugging her to a dialouge let's be real here not all people especially in global knows that hugging a person in japan is being forward like from where I grow up hugging a person can be a form of comforting
It's actually a change from Portable, as they have the same lines. I think dialogues options and some scenes will be more like Portable than FES.
