    As a long time Apple tablet user (since the iPad 2), I’m still longing for the day when the iPad really IS a computer and I can leave the house with just my iPad instead of a laptop. Sadly, Apple seem to have very little interest in making the changes required to make this a reality. Instead they seem more concerned with trying to force a change in perception of what actually constitutes a computer. Just look how long it took them to support a mouse/trackpad, and even now it’s still limited. “Should we put things like USB ports and an OS with integrated file support on our next iPad? No, let’s just try and convince people they don’t do things to make it a real computer…“ 🤦🏻‍♂️

      I look forward to the day they add multi-user support. Face ID only works for one person like it’s a big iPhone. But iMacs and MacBooks let multiple people sign in with their fingerprints or passwords.

      @sonofage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      if they do this, it could spell the end of their MacBook lineup, so I doubt they'll ever really do this. The more likely ones to do it is probably on Android's side, and if it gains some traction, Apple will take it and say they did it first, as per the norm, but I could be wrong. I completely forgot about the file system access on the iPad/iPhone. Most useless file system I've ever used, but i guess if you're just saving your pictures, it's easier to do? IDK, it seems Apple doesn't trust their fanbase to figure things out whereas, Windows/Android/Linux let's you be the judge. Linux, even more so, to say the least, haha.
      Even as an Admin for Apple Business Management, you're not in full control without Apple allowing it , EVEN though you purchase the devices from them. it's strange to me.
      from a system admin's perspective, i prefer Windows in this case but i also dislike Azure's sudden control UI changes on a whim. Thanks Microsoft.
      Anyway, Why doesn't Apple give more access to their file system on their mobile devices?
      I was about to buy an s7 Tab (samsung) but decided against it after i realize that for now, i'm mostly stuck at home and i won't require to go out as much as i once did but while not all apps are build for the tablet experience on Android, at least, the file system is open to me, without root nor some complex means of usage and it's almost like , what i can think can be done on Android, potentially already exists on it. I'm not advocating for using Android's tablet Vs Apple's. I know that ship has sailed for most people and i personally don't care enough to argue but if Apple allowed some extra stuff, without root -- then perhaps i'll give them a chance in the tablet space....
      But i'm not the target demographic i guess.

    as someone that has been on a 2018 ipad pro as their main computer for almost two years, after the release of the magic keyboard and ipad os 13.4 or whatever it was, yeah, it is 100% a computer. it’s basically the perfect laptop replacement for 90% of people out there that just need a nice screen for content, good touch and intuitive UIs, can take advantage of apple’s continuity and ecosystem and need a decent keyboard and great trackpad for productivity on the go, this thing will write emails, work on your spreadsheets, if you are a creative profesional the pencil is a great alternative for a wacom and way cheaper than their all-in-ones, it is still an ipad with great speakers, great screen and great performance, yes, even the 2018 model is still flawless and why i’m not switching to the 2021 one at all.
    it is undoubtedly a learning curve to get used to ipad os, and it is not perfect in any way yet, i still need to sit on my desktop every couple of weeks for real cad and that one piece of software i need for work, and the Files app is useable but _not good,_ not even remotely as useable as good old Finder. Is the iPad Pro a real PRO tool for professionals? Not really, you can do a lot with it on the go but really isn’t the 16in do-it-all, weights-a-metric-fuckton, last-three-hours-on-battery, window desktop replacement people think when they think of “professional machine”, but for literally everyone else?

      Dave .. Dave? I’m afraid I can’t let you do that.

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      There is nothing in the definition of a consumer computer that requires side loading be an option. In the old days you never saw locked down computers due to the fact that early home/micro/personal computers couldn’t be locked down they way the iPad is even if the manufacturer had wanted too. This also led to consumer expecting to have lots of freedom on what they could run on their PC/Micro systems. If was only after the rise of malware and totally crappy software that the idea of a more locked down systems became something consumer would be more tolerant of. The total flood of crap games on the Atari 2600 system helped usher in the video game collapse of 1983. Nintendo responded to this by insisting that their NES console by locked down so that only Nintendo approved game cartridges could be run on the NES. So if you take a broad definition of computer then the Nintendo NES and Sega Genesis/Megadrive and such qualify as “computers” without side-loading. Side loading on a computer is common thing but I never seen it specified as a requirement for calling it a computer, just something few thought to prevent until Apple decided to do so on their iPhone and later iPad as a malware and crap ware prevention method.

    • @coolbuddyshivam
      @coolbuddyshivam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Charlesb88 PC is different from computers. You need side loading for a thing to be called a PC. There is nothing personal about vendor locking. You can't even do whatever you want with device you paid for, in case you get banned you lose all softwares and media you paid for. I fail to understand why does people associate authoritarian rule with security. GNU linux first started with app repository which was the prototype for modern app store, there are hardly any malwares and crapware. Manufacturers blocked side loading for taxing third party developers for profiting off their flock of sheep and for more control on devices. Security was not the main priority. You can easily gain that with decentralisation and open source with other methods as well.

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@coolbuddyshivam PC stands for Personal Computer meaning any computer designed to be used by one person at a time as apposed to a mainframe, time-shared computer, or Server. Now if You mean IBM-compatible PC or Wintel PC then yes, by that definition you’d expect side-loading to be a thing but even then it’s not always an option such as with Windows 10 with S Mode turned on so MS has thrown a wrench in your definition PC there too. When I used the term PC, I just meant any Personal Computer regardless of CPU or OS which includes tablets, smart phones, old Power PC Macintosh’s, 80s Microcomputers like the C64 or Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Regardless, Whether it’s locked down or not isn’t in any definition of computer I could find, personal or not. So there is nothing stopping the iPad from being classified as a computer even if it’s not one you might want to use for certain or any tasks.

    I think the reason why the servers disconnect, is because of Apples weird battery conservation thing. Because having a device always connected to something and constantly refreshing and checking data, would drain the battery. We don’t have that problem on desktops, it that’s cuz those are always connected to power 24/7, while these things are running off of battery.
    Maybe if they had a server mode you could just “turn on” then it would be easier.
    But when they do that, they should also add better hardware features, especially for videos. These things do perfectly for Art and graphics design, but not videos all that much. You can still edit…. But it’s not as great as a MacBook.

      The problem here is that neither Android nor iOS/iPadOS are able to run full desktop programs. So no matter how powerful these mobile devices get, it’s useless when they can’t replace a laptop or desktop with any OS.

    I'm wating for OS-XYZ to be supported on the iPad Pro, i cant wait to have a stealth pro desk that you come home and mount the ipad into to turn it into a massive trackpad/drawing tab, with 2 external displays, 10g networking, in desk USB ports/memory card reader, and and vapor chamber cooling on an adjustable dock stand that can fold down to lay flush with the surface of the desk.

      @@Just_a_jinx_lol no, it's an arm processor in their MacBook instead of an x86 one. There have been arm chips on windows and Linux for years now. They just breefed up the cores and added the x86 emulation section and put it in the MacBook. Basically a modified iPad chip. It's just the old iPad A13 Bionic with a new emulation portion, die shrank, and beefed up as all processor generations are. It's not like Apple made their own architecture or use RISKV.
