Hi, I'm thinking if I should go minimalistic and trade-in my old devices (2015 12" MacBook retina, iPad Mini 2, iPhone 6) to get an 11" iPad Pro. I've had these devices for years now and they've become underpowered and I only use them separately for different cases. I'm thinking if getting an iPad Pro will help me declutter. I still have an iPhone X that I can use daily. I just want to know if there will be any problems if I switch. Here is a list of my daily use cases: 2015 MacBook 12" Retina - I use it with a wireless keyboard and mouse >MS Office 365 - spreadsheets and documents. >Adobe - PDF viewing >Netflix & TH-cam >GarageBand - simple multi-track recording and editing iPad Mini 2 >TH-cam >E-books >Music at home >Drawing storyboards using the Paper app. iPhone 6 >Spare/emergency phone >Music in the car - which I can do with my daily smartphone iPhone X - to be retained as daily smartphone >Shoot videos via FiLMiC Pro >Edit videos via LumaFusion >Normal daily usage (calls, texts, work communications) >Navigation - Waze, Maps Editing on my iPhone X can be a pain, literally. I've been having neck problems because the screen is too small and I have to lay it down on a desk when editing. I've tried using my MacBook with iMovie and DaVinci Resolve 16 but the device is too underpowered and cannot handle 4K footage. I normally shoot and edit one short video a month as a hobby and I really enjoy it. With the iPad Pro, I think it can handle all of my daily use cases (though I won't use it for car music, navigation, and shooting video). But I do have a few concerns about switching everything: 1. Will the iPad Pro be able to accommodate portable hard drives using a USB-C dongle (with or without connecting to the power adapter)? I store raw and edited footage in a hard drive. 2. Will there be a big difference with the functions, interface, and capabilities of GarageBand and MS Office Apps? 3. Given the iPad Pro's power, will it help me future-proof my workflow too? I think it can but I'm wondering if other people would think so too. Should I just save my money and trade all of these in (except my iPhone X) to get a refurbished 13" MacBook Pro? Then get FCPX, Adobe Premiere, and DaVinci Resolve? Thanks. V
This device is for the person who buys the iPad Pro as a secondary device. I have an i9 MBP as my office computer. My iPad Pro is for home, trials, depositions, client meetings, pretty much every time that I need a mobile computing device. The iPad Pro is ideal because of its versatility. Whether I need to prepare something quickly, make presentations, review documents, markup PDFs, the list goes on, the iPad Pro does it all very well. This keyboard, now makes it so that I don’t have to break out my MacBook when I have a long brief to write. I just wrote a 25 page brief over 3 days and this keyboard was a dream.
I just got the 2020 iPad Pro, I got it because I’m a musician (opera singer) and I love that I’m carrying around 1 iPad vs all of the scores I’m working on. It’s super convenient for me, because I can perform concerts with the iPad as well. Just my 2 cents. First time watcher!
“Whose buying this?” With the keyboard case, I can do my job completely on an iPad. Emails, Microsoft office, and there’s even a IOS version of our company’s portal. It’s much more enjoyable to use day to day than a laptop.
I think that university students that have to take notes on a daily basis but also really already enjoy the tablet movie/TH-cam experience are in the target demographic for Apple. I know I am hesitant to buy a laptop just for light text-based work when I already own a pc for games and I love my iPad because I don’t necessarily have the space and money to buy a full blown TV, and I’d rather watch TH-cam on it than on a laptop. Having a « pretty good » keyboard attachement that I can throw off when I hit my couch is actually a sweet deal. Also, there is the tech component, no one can argue that the iPad is a really cool piece of hardware that looks good, unlike some of the laptops out there, even some really good ones. It’s pretty pricey but the fact that it can be my portable tv and my note taking device (I also like the Apple pen for that) kind of makes up for it, I think.
They start with touch. Then added pencil support for artists/designers/note taking. Then mouse and keyboard for anything that benefits for rapid relative navigation (mouse) while using a keyboard. Perfect for office apps
Because having the cellular service is a selling point and being able to finance it plus the accessories is pretty fantastic. Just got my 3rd gen 11” with the magic keyboard and I love it.
To answer your question about who would use this. People in the construction industry regularly use iPads over computers because they are more portable and smaller ie the 11 inch one. As well as easily compatible with cellular data onboard. And having the keyboard allows the use of them for emails and eliminates the need for a laptop at all thus saving a cost of having 2 devices
I personally use an iPad Pro 2018 with the original keyboard folio and an Apple Pencil for all of my school work, and I enjoy it very much. It works for everything I need to do, such as editing docs, basic multitasking, writing out equations
Try holding the command key in different apps to pull up a list of shortcuts, try opening the iPad when the keyboard is on top of the iPad, try pinching the trackpad to escape or the “f” key on certain browsers such as safari. It’s a tablet and has other things that laptops DONT do which is where it fits in. It has some advantages such as 120 hz, camera for scanning documents taking pictures of boards etc., better front camera, you can take it off for convenience sake as a tablet, Apple Pencil, Face ID, pretty portable, touchscreen, ability to game well, widgets on homecreen, it also has sidecar, etc. they will also likely add other features in iPadOS 14 for this keyboard and the iPad in general. This has some real potential. And if you buy the 2018 version it can be a lot cheaper.
Microsoft: we introduce the surface tablets Apple: that's a stupid idea, no wants that Apple in the future: we introduce the surface tablets but more expensive
I actually disagree. Before anything this is all my opinion but for me the software on surface laptops just didn’t really hit home for me. It felt more like a laptop than a tablet and i felt as if it really wanted me to use the keyboard accessory while I was in tablet mode. But I don’t feel that way with the iPad. Say what you will ab Apple but I think they’re way ahead of the curve when it comes to laptop/tablet hybrids
@@Nik6644 it is a niche that includes illustrators, graphic designers and almost no one else... I am not under appreciating, my mother is an illustrator among other things, however she stubbornly refuse to learn digital stuff... The Surface Pen is more than capable for other professions. I am an engineer and I use the Pen on a weekly basis, from basic drawing ideas, to sketches, annotations and more... It is great for architects, civil and mechanical engineering, designers (generally speaking) and more.
i bought an ipad pro over a macbook pro for uni because of the versatility. Taking notes is important and writing with the apple pencil is good for retention, highlighting and drawing diagrams and even fun stuff like photoshop... An ipad can do everything a laptop of around the same price can + more. Also it's good portability and like i said you can change from tablet to laptop... sometimes i just need to do a bunch of reading so tablet mode and the length of the screen is good for that, like a newspaper or a book. Why get a macbook instead, when it's less versatile and, it's not necessarily something you can hardcore game on? If you need something with heavy performance for gaming and editing it's always best to build your own PC.
No numpad? What is the use case for the keyboard? Basically it converts iPad to a 2-in-1 ? But if you wanted a 2-in-1 why did you get a tablet initially?
I have found that once you get used to cursor drifting, it is actually really nice for very small track pads, since you can basically "throw" your cursor before lifting your finger to reset your hand position... it's useless for gaming though So I totally understand what you mean by it "kind of works"
don’t forget, you can enable the full keyboard access setting under accessibility, to add even more keyboard commands. someone should tell Linus about that feature.
@@Ziegeri I agree. It's like with the mouse functionality thing that was originally just for low-vision/people people with physical abilities. The Full Keyboard Access feature (found under Settings>Accessibility>Keyboards>Full Keyboard Access), should probably be under the General>Keyboards section instead. A lot of people are missing this! appletoolbox.com/use-an-iphone-or-ipad-without-touch-how-to-use-full-keyboard-access-to-do-just-that/
There is one thing that the iPad excels at that most laptops can't compete at: drawing. The iPad is an art beast with the Apple Pencil. Big screen, draw directly on it, excellent response and accuracy. Basically the keyboard makes a very excellent drawing device into a complete computer. Easy battery operation and one cord to power and charge everything. This could be an attractive package for creative professionals looking for an all in one solution. Most other laptops trying to cater to artists are bulky or fall a bit short with stylus accuracy. I wonder if this keyboard case stands up to an artist drawing on the screen.
Methamphetamine, when ingested in dubiously significant quantities can successfully lead to internal hemorrhaging and organ failure. Starting with the brain.
The trackpad gestures are big reason the thing turns into laptop. Once you learn to glide and multitask with trackpad+shortcuts youll realize the power this thing has. Three fingers move between apps and two to grab objects, and one to move the cursor. turn the trackpad setting on for “tap to click” and youre in business. I love mine.
I have been using it for a little over a week and I can say that it works really well (better than my expectations). The worst part is that you can’t open it with one hand. But there really isn’t a time where I need to open it super quickly so it’s personally a non-issue. It has been extremely nice having commands and a nice keyboard to type with. The keyboard is much better than the smart keyboard imo. It’s really sturdy in the places you need it to be and I like that the keyboard is not bendy and soft like the Smart Keyboard. The price is a tough sell and if you have the Smart Keyboard I think you can live without it.
i am a professional artist and i carry an ipad pro and a laptop in my backpack everywhere i go. this may be a bit pricey but it seems well worth it in my case. 1 device on the go and i have my pc at home.
RILEY: we have desktops, we have laptops, and now we have this new category of tablets that's like a real computer to do work on.. MICROSOFT SURFACE LINE: am i a joke to you?
Did I miss something or does it lack a mode that allows you to use the iPad as a flat tablet without removing it? (A tablet is more useful than a laptop when literally 'in the field' (surveys and stuff) or discussing maps, but a hybrid is often better than both)
Surface - its a tablet and a laptop, with full operating system iPad Pro - its a tablet...nah its got a keyboard so its a laptop...actually well no its still more tablet than laptop etc.
I bought the iPad Pro and magic keyboard and not a MacBook, because I wanted to be able to hand write my notes for school. And now with this magic keyboard I don’t have to worry about not being able to die text editing and stuff like that in a way that used to require a traditional laptop.
I've tested it and I didn't understand it; so I chose the folio. You can flip the Folio keyboard to the back of the Pad and then use it with the Pen or your fingers. With the magic you can't do this. You have to take it down from it's monitor stand. Of cause this "setup" is handy for those who write a lot with a keyboard, but(from my point of view) than a Macbook is more versatile.
My only gripe with cases from Apple directly is the sides of the iPad aren’t protected from scratching / drops... I know it’s not easy to drop an iPad off a flat surface like a table but with this style of Apple case, if I throw my iPad in a bag... there’s nothing to stop the sides from being scratched
Being able to separate the screen/tablet part from the keyboard part makes it very handy for air travel (remember when we used to do that!?), as the screen/tablet part counts as a handheld device for takeoff & landing, whereas laptops have to be stowed.
Sometimes I feel like Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung are all copying the worst parts of each other's products. This iPad setup looks like it is trying to compete with the surface pro, but only in the form factor that doesn't exactly sit as well on the lap as the form factor iPad set out to simplify, yet the iPad has the better form factor and what it really should be doing is just being able to run full iOS on a tablet. Apple deleted the headphone jack, Samsung followed suit. Microsoft saw that Samsung dex was pretty neat so they made the surface pro x and put that arm chip in there. My advice to the big 3 is to just stop that.
seriously, just stop. lol i also feel that samsung copied iphone's boxy camera layout (the s10 was a great layout for us ocd folks, why try to fix it?) and i feel that they should be more focused with technology such as air drop on samsung and microsoft, full os on tablets, and features that make for a better user experience. i imagine a world where one day we will have a console with nintendo's functionality, but the performance of a high end pc. i shouldn't have to choose between key features or quality.
Sponsors at the beginning I'm happy to listen to because it isn't really interrupting the flow. Putting them in the middle is going to get me to skip them 100% of the time.
LOL I HOPE when they do a full review of the magic keyboard that whomever the reviewer is learns all the keyboard shortcuts and adjusts the settings. Yes, you’re very crazy.
People that use an iPad for work buy it for the stylus. As a graphics tablet it’s just about one of the best you can buy. I should also mention that pilots really like them as an “electronic flight bag”. There are apps that give you maps, charts, regulations books, and flight-plan creation all in one, with GPS positioning. Other tablets have apps for this too, but iOS generally gets the most attention from the developers. There are plenty of people out there that use iPads for work. And I mean actual work that iPads are best at, not typing documents that any PC can do many times better.
I would use the Magic Keyboard on my iPad Pro 2018 11” (it is compatible), but without the function shortcuts it kind of makes the keyboard a bit incomplete. I’ll be sticking with my Logitech BT keyboard case.

If I needed to do more I’d definitely run into obstacles soon. Hopefully the introduction of the new keyboard means their gonna take this even more seriously from now.
I think something's wrong withe the sound
Like, the voice track sounds wrong
gets white-noisy whenever riley is rel. loud
I thought I blew out a speaker lmao
Hi,
I'm thinking if I should go minimalistic and trade-in my old devices (2015 12" MacBook retina, iPad Mini 2, iPhone 6) to get an 11" iPad Pro. I've had these devices for years now and they've become underpowered and I only use them separately for different cases. I'm thinking if getting an iPad Pro will help me declutter. I still have an iPhone X that I can use daily. I just want to know if there will be any problems if I switch.
Here is a list of my daily use cases:
2015 MacBook 12" Retina - I use it with a wireless keyboard and mouse
>MS Office 365 - spreadsheets and documents.
>Adobe - PDF viewing
>Netflix & TH-cam
>GarageBand - simple multi-track recording and editing
iPad Mini 2
>TH-cam
>E-books
>Music at home
>Drawing storyboards using the Paper app.
iPhone 6
>Spare/emergency phone
>Music in the car - which I can do with my daily smartphone
iPhone X - to be retained as daily smartphone
>Shoot videos via FiLMiC Pro
>Edit videos via LumaFusion
>Normal daily usage (calls, texts, work communications)
>Navigation - Waze, Maps
Editing on my iPhone X can be a pain, literally.
But I do have a few concerns about switching everything:
Thanks.
V
I, too, go insane for like 10 seconds at a time.
Glad to know I'm not alone.
11:29 because of the versatility, also it’s powerful and has a better display than a MacBook Pro for less money
“There’s no function row!”

Me too
This device is for the person who buys the iPad Pro as a secondary device.
10:22 welcome to Facebook just hold the cmd key and the ipad will show all the available keyboard short cut for you on the screen.
“Whose buying this?”
With the keyboard case, I can do my job completely on an iPad.
9:38 the escape button comes in the next generation as a major improvement feature
You can remap the globe key to esc
They start with touch. Then added pencil support for artists/designers/note taking. Then mouse and keyboard for anything that benefits for rapid relative navigation (mouse) while using a keyboard. Perfect for office apps
3:11 Infomercial at 3 am:
"Have YOU ever had this problem?"
Yes.
And so it ends, the no-ad reign of ShortCircuit.

Microsoft: we introduce the surface tablets
Apple: that's a stupid idea, no wants that
Apple in the future: we introduce the surface tablets but more expensive
juan gonzalez and worse
I actually prefer the iPads because elf the excellent pencil. The Microsoft one isn’t bad but it’s not even close to the ipad
@@Nik6644 wouldn't it be awesome if you could use the Apple pencil on Microsoft

I love when Riley tries to nonchalantly toss stuff over his shoulder and immediately the look of concern and/or regret appears on his face every time.

i bought an ipad pro over a macbook pro for uni because of the versatility.
Riley just told me in this video he loves me very much. Lemme be a gentleman and say: I love you too Riley
James and Riley are the absolute best😂😂😂😂too good
This guy: and don't forget that I love you very much.

No numpad?
What is the use case for the keyboard? Basically it converts iPad to a 2-in-1 ? But if you wanted a 2-in-1 why did you get a tablet initially?
"does that a computer make "

I have found that once you get used to cursor drifting, it is actually really nice for very small track pads, since you can basically "throw" your cursor before lifting your finger to reset your hand position... it's useless for gaming though
So I totally understand what you mean by it "kind of works"
don’t forget, you can enable the full keyboard access setting under accessibility, to add even more keyboard commands. someone should tell Linus about that feature.
Why is that a feature that needs to be enabled?
It should be enabled by default.

I said to my gf that Riley is a treat sometimes. And she goes who's Riley. And I said not Linus.
nice joke man but you forgot the funny
Methamphetamine, when ingested in dubiously significant quantities can successfully lead to internal hemorrhaging and organ failure. Starting with the brain.
The trackpad gestures are big reason the thing turns into laptop. Once you learn to glide and multitask with trackpad+shortcuts youll realize the power this thing has. Three fingers move between apps and two to grab objects, and one to move the cursor. turn the trackpad setting on for “tap to click” and youre in business. I love mine.
Huh, you can actually use a skin with the keyboard, somehow I’ve never seen that in any other video. That’s useful
No more need to peel the skin off from my fingers when typing with a keyboard! \o/
5:34 you can turn the drift off (in accessibility, obviously.) It makes it wayyyyy better imo (apparently rylie likes it.)

You can remap the key at the upper left corner to be an esc key in the keyboard settings
Just for you Riley I watched all the ads on this video.
Did I miss something or does it lack a mode that allows you to use the iPad as a flat tablet without removing it? (A tablet is more useful than a laptop when literally 'in the field' (surveys and stuff) or discussing maps, but a hybrid is often better than both)
I'm getting an unboxed therapy vibe
Duh.
Yes, if Unbox Therapy was good they would be similar
Without the fake feel and shill of unboxtherapy
You can use gestures instead of the escape key. I think they just didn't have space for the function row.
Riley secretly loves this but can't bring himself to admit it.
0:58 can I please have the uncensored version of that time? I'm not sure whether it is 3:39 or 3:39...
I have to agree to the others, Riley is lovely :3
The color and lighting in this video is gorgeous guys. Whoever edited it is great!
Surface - its a tablet and a laptop, with full operating system
iPad Pro - its a tablet...nah its got a keyboard so its a laptop...actually well no its still more tablet than laptop etc.
I bought the iPad Pro and magic keyboard and not a MacBook, because I wanted to be able to hand write my notes for school. And now with this magic keyboard I don’t have to worry about not being able to die text editing and stuff like that in a way that used to require a traditional laptop.
11:49 Awwwww Riley... I love you too
I've tested it and I didn't understand it; so I chose the folio.
He is eye candy with a cute personality
My only gripe with cases from Apple directly is the sides of the iPad aren’t protected from scratching / drops...
I know it’s not easy to drop an iPad off a flat surface like a table but with this style of Apple case, if I throw my iPad in a bag... there’s nothing to stop the sides from being scratched
for the price of that 'keyboard', you could get a surface laptop or a few more dollars for the mac wheels

Being able to separate the screen/tablet part from the keyboard part makes it very handy for air travel (remember when we used to do that!?), as the screen/tablet part counts as a handheld device for takeoff & landing, whereas laptops have to be stowed.

3/4 tech review, 1/4 open-mic standup comedy routine. LOVIN' IT!!!
My advice to the big 3 is to just stop that.
seriously, just stop. lol
i also feel that samsung copied iphone's boxy camera layout (the s10 was a great layout for us ocd folks, why try to fix it?)
and i feel that they should be more focused with technology such as air drop on samsung and microsoft, full os on tablets, and features that make for a better user experience.
i imagine a world where one day we will have a console with nintendo's functionality, but the performance of a high end pc.
i shouldn't have to choose between key features or quality.

You can use gestures to escape and application on the trackpad, just like in macOS
What's a computer?
A stationary laptop
People that use an iPad for work buy it for the stylus. As a graphics tablet it’s just about one of the best you can buy.
I should also mention that pilots really like them as an “electronic flight bag”. There are apps that give you maps, charts, regulations books, and flight-plan creation all in one, with GPS positioning. Other tablets have apps for this too, but iOS generally gets the most attention from the developers.
There are plenty of people out there that use iPads for work. And I mean actual work that iPads are best at, not typing documents that any PC can do many times better.
If it can't run desktop apps it ain't a computer, it's basically just a big version of my phone
I would use the Magic Keyboard on my iPad Pro 2018 11” (it is compatible), but without the function shortcuts it kind of makes the keyboard a bit incomplete. I’ll be sticking with my Logitech BT keyboard case.
Apple: "We can now flog you a detachable overpriced keyboard to go with your overhyped, overpriced tablet. "
Microsoft: "Welcome to the party."
Microsoft keyboard is better than this with its own backlight and can work on newer or older surface pro.
And keys are also better.
You can open it easily if you put the back of the ipad (the side with the USB-C pass through) down and pulling the keyboard part of the case down.
