    This panel can put out close to 100 watts th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

    Extremely well made video. I wish everyone would condense their videos just like this with data and video of the actual things being discussed. Voice was perfect, audio was great. Less than 6 minutes from the time I wondered about solar to getting a bunch of questions answered. Thanks!

  • @vicyuribry
    @vicyuribry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    since nothing is ever free, my questions would be
    1. How much was the cost of the panels, if you bought them or were they through a business?
    2. How much is the cost of installation?
    3. How much of those 2000+ savings were spent on repairs and/or maintenace?
    4. Does house insurance cover the panels, or do you have to get another plan for them? such as fire, floods or anything?
    and last question...
    5. what were the drawbacks from your experience with it?
    Thanks. im thinking about getting solar panels now, so trying to do some research, for my benefit.... the enviroment, don't care to much.

    The bill from SCE is about $20 per month. The bill shows a potential payment at the end of the year based on the retail price of electricity. HOWEVER, when the time comes for payment, we get a check or credit based on the wholesale price of electricity at the beginning of the year.
    The roof is very slick and we now hire someone to put up the Christmas lights. I plan to install permanent controllable lights on the eves.

At least for my solar setup it's based off of a year where you sum up everything you produce, you subtract everything that you use and if you're a net positive you get paid (at 1/3 the rate for KWH) and if it's a net negative you pay at the full rate for KWH. So in my case you don't really sell anything if you have to pay for electricity in the end. I guess up in la it's a bit different

    Because if he went from 2.2k> to less than 200$ saving 200$ and a third of the panels productions is sufficient to cover almost all the home needs. It means overall the panels produce 6k$ and 4k$ are donated to the elec grid while 2k$ worth of elec is used by the home owners.
    I'm missing something here? It can't be just simple donation, right ?

      Think of it like a bank stored in la w&p. The energy the panels produce usually produce and excess of power during the day. When it's night and the panels aren't producing power, the house pulls its power from LA. The panels the he got generate an extra 1,000 or so kwh annually. The excess power then turns into credit for your energy bill Or it can be rolled over to the next year so you have that extra offset of power. Usually the credit isn't even that much because la would only buy the power back from you at around 3 or 4 cents. The bill he got from LA is probably all the fees you pay for being interconnected to the grid. Service fees and such which are usually $12 a month.

Basically, for those who are more financially motivated, how many years would it take for the electric bill savings to cover the cost of the roof. And of course, given the fires, your savings could have been larger, but curious where the break even point is. I'm sure it's at least a decade out?

  • @motoringnation
    @motoringnation 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lots of questions about why you are still paying for electricity etc.
    To clear that up - because you dont have a battery storage system, you only get 'free' electrcicity when your panels are producing it. So at night time, any electric usage wont come from the panels - it will come from the grid and cost you.
    If the panels are producing 2kwh and you're using 4kwh at the time - it will cost you.
    Also, only certain places pay you for any excess usage sent to the grid.
    So if you are producing 4kwh, but using 2kwh - the 'spare' 2kwh will go into the grid. You can setup schemes in certain countries where electric companies pay you for this excess. I'm in the UK and we have a scheme although its not worth as much as it used to be.
    At this stage I still think traditional panels will be the better choice for most, unless you're building new or needing to replace your roof anyway. Each house is different. The slope of your roof matters, the amount of sun it gets, whether your roof faces south etc. - all this affects how much solar you can produce.

    • @AustinFlack
      @AustinFlack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      When we send energy to the grid, get energy credits, which "pay for" the energy we use at night, cloudy days, etc. (energy at night, during peak demand periods, is more expensive that the energy we generate during the day). We can bank credits (sort of like roll-over minutes) but can't cash them out.
      Instead of spending roughly $60k to ensure I was totally off the grid, (for a maximum savings of $156/yr) we just trade daytime energy for night time energy. We also charge the Tesla late at night (after peak demand hours), which is a lot of kWs, which helps explain how the daytime disparity evens out.
