Waited this evening, hoping you'd upload it before I went to bed, and turns out you did. Very nice video of getting down and dirty with an older car. I like that you show it is not perfect in the end, sometimes you have to lower your expectations a bit and settle far good instead of perfect, it's just real world right? Congratz on the 75K btw, they are well deserved!
Haha I’m glad I could come through, has some computer issues in the morning but made it work! And definitely, cars are for driving, this car is far from perfect haha. I’m just happy to make it look much better. Thanks buddy!
I have a question for you. I worked on a old BMW similar to this and the previous detailer did a crappy job and got compound or polish all over the plastic trim. What’s the best way to remove that?
Thank you Devin! You’re awesome man. Honestly compound on trim is a tough thing to deal with. You can try isopropyl alcohol, it’s usually your best bet. If that doesn’t work I usually move to steam 🤍☺️🤷♂️
@@ChromaticGarage hmmm. Never would have thought of steam for removing the compound. The car I mentioned, IPA didn’t work at all. Next steam it is. Thanks.
Big fan of the e46 platform. Working with a sport sedan 325i right now and trying to figure out if I should restore the black trim or buy new. Thoughts? Awesome vid and clean looking car. Love it.
Love your videos man. I’m about to do my e46 convertible been putting it off for a while Gotta do a bunch of touch up paint first shits covered in rock chips. Also does griots finishing sealant not have a cure time before you wipe it off like other AIOs ?
Thanks man! Thats awesome, best of luck with the car. Its wild what touching up some chips can do to the look of a car. And too be honest I have no idea haha. I should read there label.
Since I now have a garage with a floor lift this video inspires me to have a go at it again with paint correcting my car with a machine. Last time I did it I used the wrong compound (super dusty and dry) and it really put me off. My car was owned by an old couple, 10 years of automatic car washes and dealership washes, probably only had a few proper washes in its entire life until I got it, paint is severely swirled and scratched. Will get some Griots products this time around and see what I can do. I'll use Aidan's discount code haha! Great work as always!
you know, sometimes, like this morning, I get so carried away watching your videos that I forget to turn the volume down... and then my wife reminds me she has some students over :/ Also, how often do you swap pads out?
Hahaha amazing buddy. I appreciate you watching. I switch them out every panel or twice a panel if it’s large. This isn’t necessary it’s just easier if you already have a bunch of pads
Nice one! Make sure to clean the arches from the inside, just grab behind them and get all the dirt out, use pressure wash, and seal it off with some fluid film. also take side skirts off and front wheel liner off, you wont believe the rust. Stop it while you can and put some fluid film on it before the car rusts through.
Forsure man! I’m actually just getting ready to get rid of this wagon to make room for the new one. This one has a few too many problems for me to want to do anything to it
Hey chromatic you should give the turtlewax one and done compound a test drive. I can't tell you how amazing that stuff is. Just change your pad types to get an amazing finish
Not perfect he says.. my man just blew a new life into a family car that highly likely will never look as good as it does now! I would love to tackle the hazy paint on my miata when i see this but i think i'll have to wait just a few more uploads to gain confidence/knowledge. Quick question, your last step was still a polish right? Shouldn't the paint be protected by a fresh layer of wax?
Hahaha thank you man! You should definitely tackle it. The last step I did was use a finishing sealant to polish and protect the paint in one step. At this point I don’t really need to refine the paint much after cutting so it’s just easier in cases like this to protect and polish at the same time
Has to be one of my favourite combinations fcc and finishing sealant long working time and the sealant goes a long ways with a few drops awesome transformation.. Is that the lake country microfibre pads your using? Didn’t see them on your list. I use the uro 50/50 pads but they don’t last long anymore fall apart way to fast for my liking. 👏 great job. 👍🏻👍🏻🇨🇦
Thank you Ken! Yup you nailed it, lake country microfibre cutting pads. I have never actually used the URO pads but i should probably try, so many friends enjoy them. Out of any microfibre pad I have used the lake country 100% lasts the longest. Griots ones are my favourite but the glue on the pad melts and I usually ruin them far too quickly for my liking
Thanks buddy! I love it, fast correcting cream finishes so well on most paints that you rarely need to polish, so being able to knock out protection at the same time as a minor polish is so nice. Also saves an hour or so if you’re getting paid for the job
From Hazy to Glossy ~!! Yes Sir~! How do You like Boss Finishing Sealant? i have used the Fast Correcting and the the Perfecting cream , love the combo, still to try finishing sealant.
Thanks Dan! I really like the finishing sealant when the car doesn't really need a full polish after cutting. Lets you do two steps in one. Good protection too!
I’m just dumping this car to someone else soon. Sometimes coatings are a burden for people to take care of. Can end up making the vehicle worse than it needs to be
@@ChromaticGarage I've been trying to find one 320i or 318i to buy that's in an okay condition so hard but nobody here has it in an okay condition, everything is rusted out or has a rod knock in it, and I don't wanna build a car that has no base..

How many compounding and polishing pads did you use for the whole car?
Are you breaking that sealant down or just spreading on the lowest setting? 🧐
Breaking it down a lil! Using the minor abrasives to polish a lil while adding protection. The actual polymer won’t degrade by being worked in more
