    Chubs are bass’s favorite food. That’s forage fish.

    Question for you, I’m in Florida and built a pond a little over 1/2 acre that’s 12 foot deep. The pond is about 7 months or so old and it’s starting to settle in a the water is getting clearer. I’m not wanting to stock fish. Anything wrong with stocking bluegill, minnows and other forage without adding bass right away? I was thinking letting the bluegill do their thing for 6-8 months and then adding bass. Thank you for any feedback

      We always recommend stocking forage species months prior to stocking predators like bass. Ideally, you'd want to stock bluegill now so they can spawn several times throughout the warmer months. Then stock bass in the fall.

      The pond owners can use them as they wish, but that's not a bad use for them!

    Where are y’all located?

    Did the unwanted species enter the pond? Was it through the creek.

    • @williampond1143
      @williampond1143 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I seen you throw the crappie back was it an unwanted species but not one the owner wanted removed? I just find it extremely interesting what really goes into pond management

    • @TLCPerfectPond
      @TLCPerfectPond  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure how they got into the pond. As far as the crappie go, they will definitely slow the growth of the bass in a pond because they compete for the same resources. However, some pond owners want to keep them because they're good to eat. We will remove the crappie if the owner asks for it. We do make sure they know the effect they have on the bass population, but it's ultimately their decision.

      @@TLCPerfectPond That’s good to know how crappie change the dynamics in a pond. Is there any way to maintain crappie and still get not huge but respectable largemouth?

    • @TLCPerfectPond
      @TLCPerfectPond  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EatDrinkBeMerry It's possible. As long as you have plenty of prey for them both, it can be done.

    30acres!? That’s a lake. Not a pond.

    • @TLCPerfectPond

      Even if it's 100 acres, we still call it a pond around here.
