    Some people saying I’m pronouncing his name incorrect. I pronounce it as it reads and this link backs that up.

      I absolutely agree. I’ve always thought it was pronounced as it was spelt. However, as a huge porridge fan, I’m sure his character’s name was Mr Mackay, rhymes with sky. Not that it matters, he was a great actor and a hilarious character.

    • @broonbreed
      @broonbreed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Being from Paisley, like Fulton McKay, his name does rhyme with sky and not kay.. It`s how it`s pronounced in Scotland. Even in the great program, Porridge Ronnie Barker calls him McKay as in sky. Great video.

    • @yogihaughton
      @yogihaughton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yup, pronounced Ki up here (sounding like high) in Scotland. Easy mistake to make though.

      This is the reason I hate getting older, I'm my mind I'm still young and the 70's, 80's and 90's were only yesterday, but we're losing more and more entertainment legends every day and it's a massive shock when I read that they were 70+ because to me, they were still as they were in their heyday. Just a reminder that time is catching up, I guess.....

    porridge is by far one of the best British comedies from better times. it was clever and quick-witted without the need to be over the top. could easily watch it over and over without ever getting board. i have to say I love watching these videos but it doesn't half hurt to see so many good people we have lost over the years.

      You are a lucky man , he seemed a nice man. I can't say the same about roger moore went to see him in an evening with. He came out on stage he never even said hello he just stood there, I have never watched one of his films since.

    • @OddOne251

      He was a lovely man. I served him petrol when I was in my teens and I was working at a garage. He was appearing in a play nearby and stopped in to fill up after the show. He was driving a Jaguar and it was the first time I'd filled a Jag, so didn't know it had twin tanks and so I only half filled it! He was so nice about it though, found it quite funny, and happily stood and chatted to me whilst I filled the other one, (despite it being midwinter, freezing cold and most other customers always went and waited in the shop, in the warm!).

    One of the best character actors we've ever had. He played Mr Mackay in Porridge to utter perfection: no fuss, no slip-ups, just played it straight. As well as Porridge, he also appeared in Special Branch opposite Derren Nesbitt, before Euston Films took over production and revamped the whole programme top to bottom. I hope he's enjoying his rest at the great Slade prison in the sky Love you Fulton ❤ 😊

    Watched Dr Who 'The Silurians' from 1970 the other day and low and behold Fulton played an eccentric doctor (not the actual doctor) for a few episodes...loved him in Porridge!! sadly lost to soon.

    Hiya Paul, the days when the telly was a good giggle. A wonderful tribute to William. Keeping their memories alive. Great video. Always respectful. Thank you for sharing. Have a great week.

    To us children of the 80s he was the Lighthouse Keeper in the British version of Fraggle Rock and he played the role to perfection.
