Merry Christmas, everyone! 🎄✨ We want to take a moment to thank all of you who recommended The Snowman (1982)-what an unforgettable film! Your suggestions mean the world to us, and we’re so grateful to be welcomed into your culture with open arms. Whether you’re spending the day with loved ones, working, or remembering someone dear, we’re sending you all our love this holiday season. Thank you for being part of our community and sharing these beautiful moments with us. ❤ Wishing you peace, joy, and happiness today and always! 🎁
They never seem to have the choir boys name who sang 'Walking In The Air' in the closing credits, but his name is Peter Auty. People think it was Aled Jones who is still on our tv today, but it was Peter. We never see Peter on tv and not sure how Aled was credited with the singing.
I was 10 when the snowman first came out and would watch it every Christmas eve. I had my daughter and we would watch it together every Christmas it's a tradition. I waited a long 30 tears for the snowman and the snow dog to be made and it was worth the wait. Now my daughter and grandchildren and I watch both every Christmas. It's just timeless ❤
Raymond Briggs didn't want the typical happy ending for the movie. He lost both his parents and wife within 3 years to cancer and the whole ordeal was mentally crushing for him. He was only around 30 at the time. It made him have a dislike for Christmas as he felt very alone. He would find love again but sadly lost his new partner too in 2015 to Parkinsons disease. He passed away in 2022 at the age of 88
I think we all feel the way we do about this movie because it had a bittersweet ending. No other ending would have worked for me. There has to be pay-off. - Nothing lasts forever and many things pass too soon.
Being from the UK, i have watched this every christmas for the last 40 years and i always have a tear at the end. It brings back so many memories of christmas with my parents and siblings. Merry Christmas you two. The channel is really becoming one of my favourites. All the best for 2025.
Same here. I watch it now with my own kids who are getting too old too want to sit through it with me. Soon I'll be watching it on my own. Merry Christmas :)
Brings back memories of my dear mother toasting bread for supper on the long fork at the fire. Six children in their pyjamas sitting cross legged on the rug, happy, content and warm. The eldest would butter the toast and pass it along the line. Grand !
Cocidering the little boy who sang this is now 53 years old. And he still gets people in the street singing "I'm walking in the air" to him to this day. An absolute timeless classic
It's sad that the boy who sang the song for the cartoon seems to have been largely forgotten nowadays. Everyone associates the song with Aled Jones, but his version was a few years after the cartoon first aired. The singer for the cartoon was Peter Auty.
dude, you messed up. the real kid who sang it didnt get a penny, alid jones did the single that was released to the public and was on top of the pops. i agree its a total classic though, i really wonder if they had any idea how beloved it would become.
The original singer of "Walking in the Air" (1982) was Peter Auty, who was a 13 yr old chorister at St Paul's Cathedral. The composer, Howard Blake, re-recorded the song for a commercial in 1985. Aled Jones was chosen instead and the song became a hit.
@@moominmay They didn't use Peter Auty for the re-record because his voice had broken by then so they HAD to get another choir boy. The only disservice that was done to Peter is that due to an error he wasn't credited in the film's credits. This was rectified decades later when the film was republished.
I was 5 years old when I first saw this back in 1982 and its always been a beautiful memory to this day, like the lion the witch and the wardrobe, box of delights and many more magical tv moments.
I am from England 🏴 and belive me this is England ! We love it ( until the snowman dies at the end , sorry ! ) and it brings me back to me childhood , am 46 lol
The look on Jess's face the entire way through that is why the snowman is a family favourite. Its like seeing the magic of christmas for the first time.
I remember getting a wonderful letter from Elizabeth McCrae, who was the publisher of "Snowman." She said how much she liked my illustration style and encouraged me to become a professional illustrator. I loved working in colored pencils and "Snowman" takes me back all those years.
I must admit, I didn't expect this reaction to make me feel so emotional. There truly is nothing better than experiencing the magic of Christmas again through the eyes of your children or grandchildren. I’ve found that watching reactors like Mike and Jess has allowed me to revisit happy memories from the past. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!
Watching The Snowman is a very emotional experience for many people, me included. It brings back so many memories of being a child, when it seemed there was magic in the world and life was simple. I'm not ashamed to say that it brings me to tears every time I watch it. The Snowman is a classic with beautiful animation and musical score, and is repeated on UK TV at least once every Christmas, and will continue to be shown for many years to come.
I was 11 when this first aired on TV, I'm 54 now and this has been a part of my Christmas every year since. Even to this day i still get emotional at the end. One thing to bear in mind is that this was completely hand drawn in pencils and took months to complete. Thank you Mike and Jess for enjoying what has been part of Christmas in the UK for a lot of people, your faces when they started to fly were exactly as i had hoped. 🙏 Merry Christmas xx
Another Raymond Briggs film to watch is the brilliant but incredibly sad film called 'When the Wind Blows'. It is a absolute classic but damn you dont wanna watch it over Christmas!
Peter Auty was a choirboy who sang at St Paul's Cathedral. At the age of 13, he sang "Walking in the Air", the theme song of the 1982 animated film, The Snowman, but in the rush to finish the film his name was omitted from the credits.... His talent needs to be acknowledged as well....
The Snowman holds a special place in my heart. I was 7 in 1982 and it was my final year of believing in Father Christmas. It was also the last time it snowed DEEP which made it just so magical. The following year, on Christmas Eve, I caught my mum eating the mince pie on the fireplace and from then on I knew...
It always makes me cry at the end😢 It isn't a dream, he has the scarf he was given by father Christmas, he takes it out of his pocket when the snow mans melted ❤
Kinda surprised you've not been hit with a copyright strike, especially for the music. Beautiful work of art, The Snowman, fully deserving its Oscar nom.
I am a 65 year old guy from England and i have watched this religiously for years and years. The book by Raymond Briggs is great for young children to have and this makes any Christmas special
This was and still is a classic......... in years to come it'll be broadcast the same as A Wonderful Life, Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street,,,,,,,,,,, every year without fail
I'm 50 years young, its Christmas day and I'm sitting alone in an empty house (both parents passed this time last year and I've never married or got kids), watching the 2 of you reacting to one of, if not the best, Christmas movie ever (not counting Die Hard...*cough*... 😁 ), with tears streaming down my face! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! 😂
In my early 50s young :) here too and spending most of the day I'm my own, but I am fortunate that my adult daughters are coming round later (peace shattered ;) :D). Agree this is one of the best Christmas films EVER! You're never alone, someone somewhere will be thinking of you or replying to you! Hope you are managing to enjoy the day, certainly watching Mike and Jess makes me feel as if I am sharing the watching experience with friends, especially when they start giggling (however bizarre and wonderful that is with the technology we have today)! You have a very Merry Christmas too.
Love this story. As someone who grew up on the Canadian prairies (1950's) , I have fond memories of winter fun when we played outside, with snowmen, snow forts and snowball fights, tobogganing , ice skating. "Snow" days?, it had to be pretty cold to stay home from school and remember only one time after a storm snowed the area in.
The original showing was at Christmas 1982. I recorded it on VHS tape. The introduction was originally by David Bowie, in his intro he has the blue scarf around his neck you see when the snowman has melted.
I'm a little jealous of you seeing This for the first time. The look of awe and wonder on your faces when they started to fly,and then when the song started was magical. Like two children!
When our children were very young we would watch this altogether they are all grown up now with there own kids and they all watch this every Xmas as and my wife do it's as if we are all sitting together again .very special to us
This is a tradition in Britain. It's guaranteed to be on TV on christmas morning, and on several times over the christmas period. When i was a kid, it was on the TV while we were opening presents.
The song "Walking in the Air" is sung in the film by chorister Peter Auty, who was not credited in the original version. He was given a credit on the 20th anniversary version. In 1985, "Walking in the Air" was covered by chorister Aled Jones in a single which peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart. This animation is a British tradition every Christmas for around 30 years, Time you guys made it an American tradition each year, the kids love it,merry Christmas guys 🇬🇧
Lovely reaction . I was lucky enough to be exposed to this when I was a kid and we would watch it every year. When I was 20, I showed it to my ex girlfriend . She’s Norwegian . I’m 40 now and this year she send me a picture of her family watching this in Norway with her kids . Really touched me to think how something that impacted me so much, has impacted her family and kids . Very nice
44yrs old guy here loving seeing this again. I was lead choir boy at my primary school and had to sing walking in the air at the national school music concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Still one of my most proud moments. Thanks for the memories guys merry Christmas.
I'm so happy you've seen it at last. My son, who is now 50, had red hair as a child like the little boy in the film. Every time i hear the song or see the film it takes me back to my young family. I'm now a great grandmother. Happy Christmas one and all 🎄☃️🥂xx
It’s not Xmas without this. I have been lucky to see the film accompanied by a live orchestra (an annual event in many concert halls around the uk)numerous times (usually with a celebrity narrator) many times and it’s always an amazing experience. The children in the audience are entranced). If you get a chance to go to a performance do go…it’s magical.
I am watching the snowman now, I watch it every Christmas since it first aired on TV in 1982. To this day it still brings tears to my eyes. Merry Christmas to you both and all your family .🎅 🎄
Watch the sequels which are good too. Father Christmas (1991). The Snowman And The Snowdog (2012). All by Raymond Biggs in the same art style. All are linked. ❤
Ive watched this every year at Christmas without fail since 1982 when I was a kid round at my grandparents with the whole family there, great memories....
I remember watching this as a kid I was 6 years old, couldn't take my eyes from the screen loved it, but it did make cry at the end when the snowman melted, now this is a classic. 👌🏻⛄ Merry Christmas from Wales UK.🏴
Wishing you both a very merry Christmas, thank you for all the joy you have brought all year. I only found your page recently, and have really enjoyed watching all your reactions, observations and anecdotes. Thank you for sharing your views and your lives with us. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🥳🥂
The snowman has been on every Christmas since I was born and I've watched it every single year since I can remember. We were one of the last families I knew who still only had a black and white TV and so I initially watched the snowman in black and white. During this time I was very familiar with the book because we had it in our classroom booksheIf. The illustrations were beautiful and the first Christmas I watched it on our new colour TV was so magical to me. I feel something akin to peace when I hear walking in the air. I will be booking tickets in the future to watch a snowman screening with a live orchestra. Magical.
Thank you both so Much this video means so much to me. I lost my mam/mum 18 month ago. We used to watch this together every Christmas and cry our hearts out 😢 THANK YOU
I’m 45 & iv watched this every year it’s became a tradition I was a young mum 18 when I had my first son then when our son was 8 we had another son so my boys have always loved the snowman as well my mum who very sadly passed a cpl of years ago would watch it with us so this has been much loved in our family we watch ur on Christmas Eve still we watched it last night then my boys the oldest has moved out now still comes home & stays on Christmas Eve we have food we watch the snowman we play games & they still go to their rooms so Santa can put all the presents out & today Santa is really tired lol Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🎅🏼🥂
Just thinking of how both of you sat there with your mouths open a few seconds after the song begins 😊 and it warms my heart to hear that you wish to introduce the snowman to Ally. Childhood wonder is so precious and is usually the foundation for that lovely feeling of nostalgia years later. I wish you a merry Christmas and i hope Ally embraces the snowman with as much wonder and joy as we did as children.
Merry Christmas everyone. So glad you have experienced this classic Christmas movie, I was 7 when this first aired and have watched it every year since and have collected every version from the book's to the audio story read by the fantastic Bernard Cribbons. Raymond Briggs was a fantastic author with many of his stories been made in to films and tv shows. So glad you enjoyed this
Thank you for reacting to this classic. Raymond Briggs wrote other fantastic books including two about Father Christmas, who is a much more grumpy character than we imagine. Happy Christmas to you and your families.
Just wanted to say, a beautiful beautiful reaction guys. I’m in my early 50’s and I still make sure I watch The Snowman every Christmas! It is such a big tradition in the UK. The art style, animation and music is just timeless. I’m so pleased that back in they day when they were making it, they made the decision for it to be music only, with no script. I think in doing it this way, they created a piece of art that has stood the test of time. And as you both say, it’s the innocence of experiencing the magic through the child’s eyes that takes on extra meaning. It’s all too easy to become cynical these days, with how commercial and hectic the holiday season can be. - Movies like this become more important the older we get I feel. The sequel that came many years later, The Snowman and the Snow Dog, is also well worth watching.
I have greatly enjoyed your reactions over the last year or so. So a 76 year old man in the UK wishes you all the very best for 2025, keep up the good work.
A British Christmas classic! Magical stuff and full of nostalgia. Dropped by my mum's place on Sunday and it was on TV. Sat and watched it with all the feels and I'm in my 40s. Merry Christmas guys! 🎄⛄
Brilliant n uk each year. Fab movie thank u you two . We have so much quality tv here, theres lots more for you to see n norman wisdom. Anything movie clips, his singing , hes hilarious. N i recomend old Christmas ads especially trampolining animals n snow globez john lewis n a kid from college thought to be john lewis, omg fabulous.
Introduced my 3yr old daughter to this yesterday and got punished for the next half hour with hysterical tears because he melted, apparently I'd blocked out that childhood trauma, it eased when the snowman and the snowdog came on, then that ended.....
When this came out my son who was around 3 years old watched this for the first time, he was transfixed to the Tv and didn’t take his eyes off it and at the end when the snowman melted he was absolutely inconsolable and was crying his eyes out I think it broke his little heart.
Wow, I really thought everyone had seen this. All our kids love it, now the Grandchildren love it. Have a Great Christmas and a Happy New Year. Shh, don’t tell anyone but I sometimes watch it in the middle of summer😂
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for this video, I watch it every Christmas morning and this year watching it with you tricked my brain into thinking I'm not alone, even if it's just for 30 mins. Have a magical day and to anyone reading this.
Lovely to watch this with you, thank you. I adore this film. Saw it as a child and watched it religiously every year. Howard Blake's music, in particular, is a work of genius. Like many kids, I found the "death" at the end very moving and it had a profound impact on me. Quite heavy for a kids' cartoon, but it really makes you feel something. Makes me cry every time! Merry Christmas.
This was my favourite Christmas movie of all time, it use to stop me in my tracks when I was a child and it use to grab my full attention. I loved it as a child and I still love it as 48 year old man. I’ve just been transported back to my childhood with several tears rolling.
Thankyou for playing this. I watch it every year. Not missed it once in 40 years. You have to watch the second one. The snowman and the snow dog equally as lovely x happy Christmas x
A UK Seasonal Classic, so glad you got around to this and noticed the beauty/importance of the music throughout. That song "Walking in the Air" was played so much over here I thought it was number one at the time. It actually made #5 on the UK singles chart (1985)☃💞🤧🥰P.S As I post this I'm watching "Mog's Christmas" followed by the sequel "The Snowman and The Snowdog of 2012 shown today channel 4 Christmas Day"✅

Still one of my most proud moments.
Thanks for the memories guys merry Christmas.
Watched this when it was first shown on TV, aged 8. Watch it every Christmas Eve with my kids. Always get a little bit of that magical feeling back.
I'm so happy you've seen it at last. My son, who is now 50, had red hair as a child like the little boy in the film. Every time i hear the song or see the film it takes me back to my young family. I'm now a great grandmother. Happy Christmas one and all 🎄☃️🥂xx
Every Christmas eve we, as a family sit down and watch this and have for 35 years . I love it
It’s not Xmas without this.
All 3 of my children watched this every year and still do
I am 74 and the late wife and I watched this with the children. Not children any longer now, they now have the next generation.
Watch the sequels which are good too. Father Christmas (1991). The Snowman And The Snowdog (2012). All by Raymond Biggs in the same art style. All are linked. ❤
this bring my childhood right back ,not seen this since 80s made me cry xx
Ive watched this every year at Christmas without fail since 1982 when I was a kid round at my grandparents with the whole family there, great memories....
Our Christmas tradition is watching this on Christmas Eve. Every year since our little one was born 11 years ago ❤❤❤
I remember watching this as a kid I was 6 years old, couldn't take my eyes from the screen loved it, but it did make cry at the end when the snowman melted, now this is a classic. 👌🏻⛄ Merry Christmas from Wales UK.🏴
Watched it yesterday on TV in the UK. It is shown every year. It is magic.
We took our 4 year old to watch a live orchestra performance of this and it was beautiful to enjoy, a classic from all our childhoods in the UK
Magical.
Thank you both so
Much this video means so much to me. I lost my mam/mum 18 month ago. We used to watch this together every Christmas and cry our hearts out 😢 THANK YOU

Beautiful animation, heartfelt story ….amazing music.
It was true! He has his scarf to prove it! And we all know it's true deep down, which is why we cry.
Now you need to do the ‘sequel’, the Snowman & the Snowdog
I have greatly enjoyed your reactions over the last year or so.
So a 76 year old man in the UK wishes you all the very best for 2025, keep up the good work.
This is a annual essential for me. It aint christmas unless i've watched the snowman!! Merry xmas everyone
It is 11:39 Christmas morning in the UK. Thanks for The Snowman; I love it.
A British Christmas classic! Magical stuff and full of nostalgia. Dropped by my mum's place on Sunday and it was on TV. Sat and watched it with all the feels and I'm in my 40s. Merry Christmas guys! 🎄⛄
I could see your faces at 18:31 wondering where you heard this song before? Well you reacted to it on the irn brew adverts 😆😁 Merry Christmas!!
The sequel, the snowman and the snow dog, also makes me cry.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for this video, I watch it every Christmas morning and this year watching it with you tricked my brain into thinking I'm not alone, even if it's just for 30 mins. Have a magical day and to anyone reading this.
Bought the videotape for my 5 year old daughter one Christmas. She played it everyday until Easter!
hi guys great reaction to a Christmas classic.
Amazing! So sweet and intense at the same time 😮
thanks for this almost every christmas i almost miss the snowman but thanks to you i watched it i didn't miss it
xx MERRY CHRISTMAS xx
Thankyou for playing this. I watch it every year. Not missed it once in 40 years.
You have to watch the second one. The snowman and the snow dog equally as lovely x happy Christmas x
A UK Seasonal Classic, so glad you got around to this and noticed the beauty/importance of the music throughout. That song "Walking in the Air" was played so much over here I thought it was number one at the time. It actually made #5 on the UK singles chart (1985)☃💞🤧🥰P.S As I post this I'm watching "Mog's Christmas" followed by the sequel "The Snowman and The Snowdog of 2012 shown today channel 4 Christmas Day"✅
You are two beautiful people and I love watching your reactions to our stuff over here.
Merry Christmas and peace and love for 2025. ✌️❤️
