Rorion forgot the mangoes! Being they're slippery, I use a blue glove on the holding hand and a very sharp paring knife. How to identify the best???? Firm with some give when squeezing. Fully colored as with yellow mangoes. Not perfect but best I know of, besides sap/resin bleeding from stem area. Mangoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, it all sounds good to me.
I see watermelon, yes! Tap a melon make sure it vibrates or thumps like he's talking. I use the tips of my fingers. No vibration, generally not ripe enough. Make sure it looks filled out like it's stretching instead of tight and compact. With a cantaloupe, smell where the vine was. If it smells like cantaloupe, it's a good sign. He should had invited me.
