    All these people are complaining about cleaning the oil filter yet that's probably the deepest you'll ever have to dig into the bike. I've owned my 250 2 stroke for 3 years now and I've had to tear into the engine multiple times for one thing or another. Work on a motocross bike is never ending. whereas this bike I change the oil, clean the chain, replace the brake fluid and tires every so often and thats all it ever needs. I never have to worry about my 150f or 230f having problems

      OK but there is no reason not too have a spinoff disposable filter.

    Also track your bolt lengths. There are 3 different lengths of the bolts when reassembling. Didnt notice that until it was to late…

    Not sure what all years apply but on a 2003 CRF230F, the two gaskets you need are: (#2) 11393-KGA-900 (found in Right Crankcase Cover schematic) and (#9) 15459-KWK-900 (found in Oil Pump schematic).

    Quick question, does this filter ever need to be replaced? Or just cleaned every 1200m? I just bought this bike used and am considering changing the filter out.

    This is why I went with a TTR230, don't have to take the case off to clean the oil filter! Just 3 bolts and it comes out, I don't know what Honda was thinking with this centrifugal filter design, not very convenient at all!

    What if you don't change the gaskets in a while? what could happen? Contact cleaner can be WD40?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *Hector Perez* oil will start to leak, will eventually stop sealling. WD40 works great. Just be sure to wash off the residue with WD40 as dirt likes to cling to it. Thanks for watching!

  • @78FullSizeBronco
    @78FullSizeBronco 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    This made my decision to get a ttr230 over a crf230! Yamaha oil change doesn't require you to take the case off to get to the filter and uses a traditional element oil filter.

    • @bobhaddick2127
      @bobhaddick2127 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      78FullSizeBronco sadly the honda is still running, while your TTR230 probably runs like shit.

    Why do you have to use contact cleaner? Will brake parts cleaner have the same effect? Or does it have to be contact cleaner since its being sprayed directly into the pump?

    • @davidianson1182
      @davidianson1182 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think brake kleen would count as contact cleaner in this case

      Eric Linnell - Hey no way I was going to get a 2019 from there in July! I ended up riding up to Mars Hill and picking up a lightly used 2017 230f for $1300 less than what I’d pay out the door there. By the way, my 2017 has a dipstick on it.

    I loosened to all the bolts, but the right side engine cover won't come off. What should I do?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *Greg Richard* If you have followed the steps in our video, you're ready to remove the right engine case cover. If it's giving you some grief, you can tap it with a rubber mallet to loosen it up. It could be stuck on with the gasket and the rubber mallet will help break the seal. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks

      The only torque wrench we carry that can do torque values that low is the www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/fixt-products-pro-torque-t-handle-p .
      You can also find a torque wrench that's in inch pounds and just do the conversion for what you need in ft. lbs.

      I dont just have tools ready for this. Its not just that easy for me to go online just to order a thin gasket film everytime i change the oil. Buying things online is a big ordeal for me and my family. Something always goes wrong and who wants to wait for something in the mail like that just to change the oil on a bike that's rediculous.
