It all depends on how often I ride. I would say a good rule of thumb is to change every 6 months if you are riding a lot, especially if riding in dusty environments. If you are not riding a lot probably once a year would be good.
I did not see anything in the owner’s manual that said you should prime the filter, so I did not. I’ve owned a few Honda’s through the years and have never primed the oil filter, so far I have not had any issues. However I am not a professional mechanic.
I’ve never used those oils. I would guess they would work just as well. Honestly I don’t think there is anything special about the Honda 1 oil, I like to use it in the case I sell the bike I can say I used genuine Honda parts and oil.
Honda doesn't make oil. Another company makes it for them. There isn't anything special about Honda branded lubricants. Look for JASO MA1 or MA2 types of oil. This is 4 stroke wet clutch oil. I use walmart brand synthetic motorcycle oil in all my bikes. The important part is use motorcycle oil. The clutch is a wet type that will be damaged by friction modifiers in regular car oil. Synthetic is a better product and handles high heat better than conventional oils but it's more expensive. This is air cooled so It's harder on oil than water cooled. Whichever you choose, change it on the manufacturers schedule and you should never have a problem on a Honda.
I was told by a dealership to change it once a year. I would suggest if you ride a lot or if you are riding in dusty conditions I’d probably change it a couple times a year, better to be safe than sorry.

Do you check the oil level on the kickstand or standing straight up?
I check it standing up straight per the manual.
That oil wasn’t even black! Good job taking care of her, I changed the oil on my mini bike and it was jet black with metal flakes 😂

I used a rubber mallet and barely tapped my socket wrench and the plug came loose.
Can you clean the oil filter or do you have to replace it?
You will need to replace it.
Use a shorter socket, especially if you are tapping on it
Not calling you out but the head of a bolt is delicate, and you seem like a person who appreciates a safer approach

I bet you that's the factory oil and filter and you're doing the first oil change

I was told every 4 hours. Sounds excessive, but if it's hard riding might be right
