Hi, I'm from Costa Rica, I have a 2016 CRF 230, it's damaged and I want to repair it but the spare parts here in Costa Rica are too expensive. I'm looking for recommendations of reliable sites on the internet where I can buy the parts.
Rocky Mountain ATV MC She doesn't yet. She just told me last week she wants a bike since I have 5... I guess Santa will be coming soon, that's why this video interested me so much. A 230f would be a great fit for her!
Yeah you better tell Santa to get on it and share the love! It's a great time riding together and seeing her improve and start to push it. The 230 is definitely a great bike, and i'd recommend it to anyone looking to start riding. - Josh
The basic design of the motor has been around since the mid 70's as the XL 125 and 175. I owned an 82 Xr200 from new and it was an amazing bike, lacked power, lacked suspension but in tight single track nothing could touch it.
I’ve had a 230 since 2006, bought it new. Back then there was Reger Engineering where you could install the CR USD forks on a modified triple (their top clamp and CR lower, 230 stem, their stop and caliper hanger) and for the rear, a works connection shock with external reservoir. Yes, I have all that on mine, and the T4 exhaust opened up air box and re-jetted. Bike has survived 6 kids plus fat dad (and all their friends as it became the “loaner”) probably has over 400 hrs, one valve adjust, 1 battery, 1 carb clean, and probably 6 sets of tires it’s whole life. I think now it needs a cosmetic plastic face lift since some of them are held on with zip ties LOL. Does the plastics on the 15 share the same mounting, if not, what would it take to upgrade, or does anyone make an aftermarket kit?
Did you do the plastics? I think the newer one will work fine except for the tank shrouds you will be missing one bolt , but ive read people use them like that
Just since you’ve had one I’m asking you, I’m 5’9 and I’m looking to buy my first bike that I won’t grow out of- how do you think I’d fit on one of these?
The easy answer is go to your local Honda dealer and throw a leg over one to see. I'm 6'2" or was might be only 6-1 now that I'm older and 260 pounds. I rode mine for two seasons, had a lot of fun. It is a small bike. I was pretty big for it.
I had this bike 12 years ago. I un corked the air box, uni air filter, full bbr exhaust, re-jet (main jet only) bbr rev box, lighter chain, went up 2 teeth in the rear with a lightweight sprocket and ran octain booster. After i did those mods that bike ripped, it was a fast bike. I used to woods race it. Some how the bike topped out at 71mph, think it was the rev box that helped with that. I beat the piss out of that bike and it never gave me a problem. But yeah, re jet it trust me. I don't remember the size i went with, do some research. A main jet is cheap and easy to change. Hope this helps!
I have an 05 crf230 and get a lot of slack for riding one until we get into the woods then people are very surprised that the bike can go anywhere and do anything plus keep up with them....
Same here. I ride my 2019 crf230f w my enduro friends and they have fancy bikes like KTM, Sherco, Huskas, Beta and mine can keep up with them everytime.
Glad I found your channel I bought one new in 2015 and got my son a CRF125. He is just to big for the 125 now. He jumped on my bike and took off yesterday when we were riding. I'm going to have to get him a bigger bike. I thought about giving him mine and moving up to a CRF250X. For the style of riding we do here in WV I don't know if I want to spend the extra money. I might try the upgrades and just get him a 230 also. I don't ride as hard as i used to and have been fine with the 230. I do wish it didn't feel so heavy when catching a little air.
Hi Adam, it was a custom color way that the owner had designed. If you call into our attack graphics department, they can help you out with the colors!
I have one of these bikes and I love it. Quick question… If I put a pro circuit t4 exhaust on it, will I need to change the jetting to get better performance?
nice work, i have a ajp 125 and i swap for 230 engine, i have a camshaft upgrade only but i very happy with the bike now, the engine is a clone of crf but only 5 speeds is korean/chinese engine zs169fmm, now i wait for the exaust like yours. do you feel diference with that exaust, and what is you feedback about the high compression piston?
Hi I have a 2003 crf230f and I’m on your website trying to get the tusk brake pedal. It says it doesn’t fit my bike. Did you guys use one for another make or are you just out of stock?
@@rmatvmc yeah, exactly I would like to know if the carburetor from a 2004 crf230f could be used on a 2007 crf230f, since the number part is different and couldn’t find one available, but there are some for 2003-2005 model/year, mainly if there is no adaptation needed (sorry for the typo)

Thanks finally found a nice build for the 230 i'm 5'4 and weigh 125lb have 2016 crf230 just ordering some of those add ons.How tall is your girlfriend riding the bike and also is there a lowering kit for this bike .I'm right on my tip toes . Thanks!
We did not put a lowering link on our bike. My wife is about 5'2 and just like you she's right on her tip toes while sitting on the bike. The height gave her a little bit of grief when she was first starting out, but now that she's getting better and more confident she is fine with the height. Tip toes is typically where you want the bike height and is a good height to develop into, but it's all about your personal preference and comfort. Unfortunately we don't carry any lowering links for this bike here at Rocky Mountain, but a quick google search shows that there are some out there! -Josh

The claim of a 6.5 pound weight reduction with a lithium battery does not sound correct to me. If I recall correctly I saved 2 pounds with a Shorai lithium battery. I don't think the stock battery even weighs 6.5 pounds. That skid plate will reduce airflow under the engine, and the foam will reduce it even more. The lower engine cases are not very hot compared to other parts of the engine, but Honda does have a large hole in the front of their skid plate to increase airflow through that area.
Thanks *Dwight Crapson* for bringing this up. I went and weighed both batteries myself, the OEM comes in at 4.15 LBS and our TUSK Lithium 1.25 LBS = 2.9 LBS weight savings. Thanks for commenting and watching!

*Dustin Cassidy* being that it has a rear drum style braking system there really aren't any upgrades available. Not as precise stopping power as say your hydraulic disc brakes, but for this bike model Honda must have felt that this bike model didn't need it. Thanks

Question- Im a first time off road buyer. Been riding 1000cc street sport bikes for 15 years. I planned on getting the crf250x until i seen a review stating that the maintenance might cost any wear from 800 to 1000 per year. I really dont have time to be maintaining stuff. I live in MA and will be using it for trail riding. Maybe 20 to 30 hours a month. How is this compared to the X? Especially when it comes to maintenance? Thanks.
*loueber-* I would recommend you check out our How-To videos we have for each bike. Each bike is going to have their maintenance costs, with different intervals on when to change fluids and inspect valves. The CRF250x will provide more of your race bike power, yet still being trail ready. The CRF230f will be a little more tame in power, but can chug everywhere on the trails. The 230f's are great trail bikes. The CRF250x is a little more versatile and you could ride it on the trails one day, then the motocross track the next. The rear tire OEM is 100/100-18; would you consider putting a 110/90-18 for more traction? Say for trail riding and slow, more technical terrain.
Definitely, tubliss system as well, 2 lbs in the rear👍
I loved my CRF230F, great beginner's bike. Then I hot rodded it with a 247cc kit, hot cam, rejetted etc. which made it actually pretty fast
Sounds like a sweet machine *Pat Farrell!*
Okay thanks
This kit is really awesome!!. also done it for a friend of mine. A lot of power!
is it ok to unchoke the air box and get the pipe or do i need to do the re-jet.
Is it possibel to fit a CRF 250 F seat on the 230 ?
hello i was just wondering where u got the white and black graphics kit i can not find that color on the website it looks sweet!
Hi Adam, it was a custom color way that the owner had designed. If you call into our attack graphics department, they can help you out with the colors!
@@rmatvmc awsome thank you!
I just crashed my 230 but it’s fine ,really durable and a fantastic bike obviously not a very good rider though🤣😂
I relate to this to much😂
Hi I have a 2003 crf230f and I’m on your website trying to get the tusk brake pedal. It says it doesn’t fit my bike. Did you guys use one for another make or are you just out of stock?
Hi Steven, the Tusk Brake Pedal fits the Honda CRF230F from years 2006-2017 and 2019 models. Thanks!
You guys did a very nice job with this piece. Thanks.
hey, loks fret!, Do you know if a 2004 crf230f carburetor will fit on a 2007 crf240F?
Do you mean a 2007 CRF230F?
@@rmatvmc yeah, exactly I would like to know if the carburetor from a 2004 crf230f could be used on a 2007 crf230f, since the number part is different and couldn’t find one available, but there are some for 2003-2005 model/year, mainly if there is no adaptation needed (sorry for the typo)
8:35 '' that concludes... our bike build...'' I would like
to know what the stock was, and what it is now.
We can dump thousands of dollars into a bike and not
know if we improved anything other than typical anecdotal observations;
''seems better, seems more responsive'' etc. With all the resources
at RM , I would hope they would include a Dyno sheet,
before/after, something more than, '' really opens it up'', really (?)
👀👀
My 2004 Crf230f has a full fmf exhaust system, what are the recommended jet sizes that i should be using?
i can’t find the exhaust shown in the video on your website
-Josh
Great video, I ride at sea level.... do I change to a 125 main and 45 pilot jets.... without messing with the needle of fuel mixture?
I just got a 2017 stock, plan to do the T4 exhaust and the tusk air filter mod.... any help is really appreciated
Adr Pad I’ve found that a 135 main jet works better for me and I’m at sea level,
Hope this helps
We don’t have this bike is our local store, can someone suggest where can I buy this bike ?
I just got a 2000 year one cant wait to make it warm
Nossa sua moto e muito top também tenho uma crf 230f são ótimas motos
Haha, I’ve had to tear down the engine completely twice since I had it 😂😂 I recommend checking the oil filter system every few years if you start having problems hahaha
Lemon bike?
Do you know if the pro circuit exhaust would fit a 09 crf230f I couldn’t find out if it would?
This Pro Circuit T-4 does not work with the 2009 CRF230F, but we have another Pro Circuit option and a coupe FMF exhausts that work with that bike that you can check out here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/dirt-bike-exhaust?v=2009-honda-crf230f
Yeah boi I got me one of those. They’re sweet.
I had a crf150f and it was my first bike and it was great. I'm ride a kx250f now. I dont like the front end twitchiness that Hondas have

easy fix, all that's needed is an extra link in the chain to give a longer wheelbase.
Can you use this motorcycle every day in the city?
I ride "girl bikes." If anyone ever calls a bike a girl bike, then you know it just means that the bike is overly-reliable and too practical, and that it's the one for me. My CRF230 and CRF250X are great bikes, and I know that the 230 will run forever.
Can y’all do a CRF150rb build
We'll add that to our list. Thanks for the suggestion *Moto Life!*
Question on the graphics... You said that it is a Attack graphics - Havoc model.
But on your website, there are no options for a 2004 Honda CRF230F...for any graphics kits??
So how do we get our hands on one of those?
I feel your pain no graphics for a 2006 either oh and happy new year ig
They’re a fun bike at any skill level.
Yessir got me one doing the enduro swap now great size for shorter riders and still kept up with a 450r in the woods great bike overall not the fastest or strongest but good all around
I’ve been looking for a 230, even though it’s not a Kawasaki like what I prefer I still love the Honda for the prices. Soooooo how much for the bike? (I like it and I want it.) *ps I’ve been a huge fan of your videos*
What size was the chain used on this build?
I didnt see the suspension upgrades you were referring to in the link
Thanks for pointing that out! These are the springs we were referring to: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/eibach-fork-springs-p
Any Idea what the actual SIZE of the main jet is? Nobody knows... - thanks
Where can I find 14t front sprocket?
Is the crf230f good for beginners just getting into trail riding on a dirt bike
The CRF230F is a great trail bike to start off on!
Do you have to do anything special when putting a lithium battery on one of these.
No, just swap it out like you would any other battery and you're set!
Where can I get that exact decal kit for my 230f? I can’t seem to find it
This is the Attack Graphics Custom Havoc Complete Bike Graphics Kit. They have changed up some of the colorways but you can check them all out here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/3318/59131/Attack-Graphics-Custom-Havoc-Complete-Bike-Graphics-Kit?v=12034

Great Build... When I see such a great video I wish it were followed by an added grafic that displays the Part replaced, the time to replace, the part cost, and a grand total at the bottom... And maybe even a list of future mods underneath with the same format.

I have a TT-R230. Should I go with a Pro Circuit or FMF power core slip on? To RM.
*Jean Boilard,* that is more personal preference and how much you're willing to spend. Both are great exhaust systems and perform great.
What is that boton next to the left grip
Huge bike keep safe out there i leave u a big like
The claim of a 6.5 pound weight reduction with a lithium battery does not sound correct to me.
Hey can you please list all the parts you added to your bike?
We have a page that has all the parts we added to this bike. You can check it out here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Sales/2357/Bike-Build-2015-Honda-CRF230F
hi bro what kit of sprock to use on this bike?
Sorry, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.
@@rmatvmc sorry i mean the chain kit do you use on the crf230f, like front an rear kit pinion.
What brand is the front fender and will it fit a 2006
What does it mean when you say xyz upgrade "opens up" the bike?
Helps the bikes performance and let it access more of its potential
I ordered all that last night but couldn’t find the brush guards ?

@@@rmatvmc I was able to get everything except the LED bulb for the headlight. It is no longer carried by RM MC ATV. Any suggestions?
@@shawnrobinson7446 We apologize, it has now been discontinued.
RMC Is there a really good rear brake upgrade available?
*Dustin Cassidy* being that it has a rear drum style braking system there really aren't any upgrades available. Not as precise stopping power as say your hydraulic disc brakes, but for this bike model Honda must have felt that this bike model didn't need it. Thanks
These bikes are the perfect size to thrash on tight trails if you are just out to have a good time. I miss mine. I would get another one if I had people to ride with but all my friends do nothing but desert riding. Mostly dunes at that so I will stick with the 450r for now.
Reliability low maintenance is hard to beat
Hope these videos help.

So i have a drz125l Is there any thing i could do suspension wise? Cuz it bottoms out a LOT!
*Off Road nation* you can try going to the little heavier duty fork oil wt.? See how that helps. If you're still experiencing it to be too soft then you can go to a bigger fork spring rate. Also, you can play with your clickers to stiffen it up some. I would have you check out our "how to set sag on a dirt bike" video: th-cam.com/video/ZXCOoy9T0vc/w-d-xo.html
Ya but it's a trail bike to you can't adjust the forks. So could i get like race suspension for it? It's a 2017 suzuki drz125l
I have a 2004 crf 230f and am trying to customize it I need some help finding parts my grips are mushy, clutch seems weak, have a headlight and horn but can't seem to get them to work, and finding new plastics/fenders for the damn thing seems impossible, the part that holds the clutch lever to the bike won't hold steady and just rotates, I can't tighten it because it's a plastic screw AND JUST BENDS WHEN I TIGHTEN, there is a electrical wire running to the clutch lever so I'm afraid to change it, the thing weighs so much that I can barely pull it up using all my strength, it's hard to get immediate speed when racing or such and the head pipe is rusted to shit with a broken heat shield, it gets hot so quick that when I revved it twice after changing spark plugs it burnt me up just touching it and it doesn't make it any better that I don't have a lot of money to spend for a project like this, can anyone help me?
ill give you $100 for it
