In April 2021 I soaked 15 seeds in water for 45 days changing water everyday without any encouraging result. I accidentally tumbled on your video clip and followed the instructions therein. Within 36 hours all the seeds germinated and I transferred them to potting medium Now I have all the15 seedlings growing since three days Thank you very much for your guidance 👍🙏🙏

It's a really hard job in the case of gulmohar......l tried cutting as well as seed method...but unfortunately nothing worked for me ..l m bit disappointed
@jaskaurgrewal4764 So sad that they didn't grow. I put my seeds in soil after 4 days in water. I checked on one and found it growing. It's humid down here which probably helped.

I saw your video and decided to try and cut off the hard seed. one ended up great, growing really well. the other one the large leaves were dead and fell off. it is still slowly growing...for now. I hope the other ones keep growing. I lovr your videos. simple and informative!

Hi Vinny, when you pass the seed to the cocopeat, do you keep it in the dark or should it have light. And, once in the coco peat, how often do you apply water to it?
I kept it in shade (indirect sunlight), on my kitchen balcony. Light is needed only when the seed starts germinating. Till then, light or dark does not matter The cocopeat needs to be moist, not wet. I probably mildly watered it twice a week. How fast it dries up depends on your weather & light exposure. Even after germinating, keep in mind that the seedling is not going to need much water. Moist is better than wet. Probably spraying water is better than pouring it.

Hey bud. I have one I have problem rn. Mine looks like the one you have at 3:05. This morning I accidentally snapped the stem in half and came off entirely about 1cm from the soil base so the main stem is still green and barely above ground and the top part that still has the seed shell covering the first leaves I put it in the pot next to it trying to root it back. I’m just trying to find an answer as if they’ll will grow or if they’ll die and dry out.
Mr Vinny, i need your help! I planted scarified Delonix Regia seeds and they have germinated succesfully. Now most of the seed is out of the brown wood seed part but it stayed halfway there. Should i remove the brown part my self or will it fall off by itself?
They will fall off on their own but you can gently pull it out also & give a little help to it. If you are unable to pull it off easily, leave it to nature, else you could damage the seedlings. I easily pulled off the seed cover in my case bcos i was impatient :-) Congrats on successful germination of the seeds 👍

Hi Jameel Arif Khan, unfortunately i do not have experience with flowers. You could buy fertilizers for flowering plants and feed it to your tree, after checking with a nursery. If your tree is in ground, it should be flowering by now. Sufficient sunlight & fertilizers are the only 2 factors i can think of. If you want a flowering bonsai, then the best thing is to air layer a branch from a flowering tree.
Hi there. Ive twice clipped a tiny bit of off the end end of the seed, left them in water. They swelled up ok but then I planted them. After 2 weeks I checked and they were all rotten and almost dissolved. Any thoughts ?
Hi Pata Negra, i hope you left the seed in water only for 24 hrs or less. More than that is not necessary & is risky. Planting medium should be just moist, not wet. Look up my reply to Akhil131. same issue there too. if you can share pics or video here, then i can have a better understanding of what went wrong
Hi Juhi, after damaging the outer seed coating, soak it for 24 hours and then plant it in a fast draining medium or soil. Yes, you can do it now, but avoid direct sunlight. Keep in shade.

Filing down, put in water for about 10 hours and them paper naking method. Methods 3 and 4 germinated. But what it´s weird to me is 1 and 2 generated moho the same day, beside they where in different pots and I never open one of them. BTW, method 4 is growing faster.
Ok, Vinny. I will have to try that scarification with the "Sour Sop" seeds I have. I scarification 6 at the pointed end 3 days ago. Now I am going to try scarification on the rounded end. Both will be in a small tin of water. I am also going to scarification on the rounded and pointed ends and put them in moist paper towels and a zip lock bag. I think mine will take longer to sprout then yours though. I think it has to do with the temperature outside. Of the 3 Ficus cuttings I put in water a few weeks back 1 has died. it turned black. The second one has some little white bumps like you get, but no roots so far. The 3rd cutting developed a heck of a lot of those white bumps and 2 days ago last I looked nothing. Tonight when I got home, I found quite a few maybe 1/4 inch roots starting on it. Like I said earlier I think the length of time it takes my cutting to sprout is because of the cooler climate. I have to see if there is some way to attach a picture to a comment here so I can show you. maybe I might go to your blog spot and see if I can send you a picture there. That will be tomorrow though, right now I am tired and it is time to head to bed.

Ya, colder and drier climates might slow the process down a bit. you could provide some artificial warmth thru lights or a warm water bag (used for back aches etc) below your container. Frequent misting and covering the seeds / cuttings with a packet or plastic bottle top might also help. in your case, maybe the lid of the cap can remain closed. I recommend taking more cuttings right away. They need light too by the way. A window sil inside home is the perfect location. Looking forward to see you post your results soon :-)
I actually have them on top of my coffee marker which seems to work. I am going to try cover with a plastic bottle a few more cuttings next time I try clippings in water. I will keep you posted as it grows.
i don't know. i have never bothered with seasons. you can keep the seedlings in home if weather is too hot or cold. generally spring & monsoon are the growing seasons in india
Hi Keerthi, you could try buying it online or at some gardening shops. If you try preparing at home, what you will end up with is coconut fibre. They need to be then cut finely so you get a powdery consistency. Too much work involved, I think. The cocopeat bricks are what you need to buy. Watch some videos of it online on how to use it. Another alternative would be sawdust and fine woodchips - basically, waste material at a carpenters shop. You should be able to get it free. I plan to get it this week and try tht medium too. Remember these mediums do not have any nutrition in it. So once rooting starts, you might want to move it soil at the earliest, unless you have liquid fertilizers.
I am not familiar with this tree and hence, i don't know. I don't use rooting hormones at all bcos i can get dense roots faster with air layering than a regular cutting with rooting hormones. I recommend trying out both and see the difference yourself. Most people are blindly believing in rooting hormones. I would love to challenge the experts on this.
Wiki says they do - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delonix_regia (look under propagation). Besides, i recommend air-layered cuttings, not plain cuttings. So, that way the success rate is far better and you will get roots too. In the place I live, I cannot imagine a tree not rooting thru air-layering.
It might survive indoors for a while, in cold Canada. If it survives outdoors, it would be a miracle. Nigel Saunders, in Canada, grows many tropical trees indoors. His channel is called Bonsai Zone. The large leaf size of this tree makes it unsuitable for small bonsai. The fastest way to get plant material for bonsai (besides collecting from ground & nursery purchase) - th-cam.com/play/PLiDU6YjzHzNdz5i1lw5RPLF8qpNVLzmHZ.html. Its a lot better to stick to local tree species, that are available easily, cheaply and grows fast.
You could try googling it, using all its names. i am not a fan of growing from seeds or growing a particular variety. go with easily available local trees. collect small trees or get air layered cuttings. check out my playlists for more info.
roots come from pointed end. so its risky to rub that end. the round end will be the tip of the "leaf" & is much safer. always germinate more than what you need & expect some failures.

Y undesirable because the seedlings grow long? while planting, you can plant them deeper so that the whole stem goes under soil and gets supported by soil around it. So all is good.
Hi Abhirath, Gulmohar seeds are pointed at one end and round at the other. The root comes out from the pointed end and can be easily damaged if you don't scrape it just right, on the sandpaper. Hence, it is safer to scrape the round end, bcos when the seed sprouts, that end is going to be the outer tip of the 2 green leaf like halves of the seed. So, even if you rub too much, I am guessing it should not prevent a sprouting. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching :-)

yes it takes only a day. you can scarify any part of the seed. the pointed end is the most risky bcos the tap root comes out from there. the leaf comes out from the rounded edge
you can rub the pointed end too, provided you do just enough very carefully else the part where root tip emerges will get damaged & cause failure. the risk is far less on the rounded end (leaf end)

Hi... You try peeling citrus seeds. The top layer comes of easy. It germinates superfast whilst the unpeeled seeds take forever.

5-12 years. better solution is to air-layer branches of a flowering tree.

They need to be then cut finely so you get a powdery consistency. Too much work involved, I think. The cocopeat bricks are what you need to buy. Watch some videos of it online on how to use it. Another alternative would be sawdust and fine woodchips - basically, waste material at a carpenters shop. You should be able to get it free. I plan to get it this week and try tht medium too. Remember these mediums do not have any nutrition in it. So once rooting starts, you might want to move it soil at the earliest, unless you have liquid fertilizers.

I am not familiar with this tree and hence, i don't know. I don't use rooting hormones at all bcos i can get dense roots faster with air layering than a regular cutting with rooting hormones. I recommend trying out both and see the difference yourself. Most people are blindly believing in rooting hormones. I would love to challenge the experts on this.

So how long to soak it in water?
once the outer cover peels off, you can plant it in soil. 12-20 hours in water is enough
Hi i got like 5 flamboyan pre bonsai they are a nice trees but it does not grow from cuttings they come in red and yellow flowers
Wiki says they do - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delonix_regia (look under propagation). Besides, i recommend air-layered cuttings, not plain cuttings. So, that way the success rate is far better and you will get roots too. In the place I live, I cannot imagine a tree not rooting thru air-layering.

It might survive indoors for a while, in cold Canada. If it survives outdoors, it would be a miracle. Nigel Saunders, in Canada, grows many tropical trees indoors. His channel is called Bonsai Zone. The large leaf size of this tree makes it unsuitable for small bonsai. Its a lot better to stick to local tree species, that are available easily, cheaply and grows fast.

You could try googling it, using all its names. i am not a fan of growing from seeds or growing a particular variety. go with easily available local trees. collect small trees or get air layered cuttings. check out my playlists for more info.

I did this and it didn't work. Coat did not "peel away by itself", in fact it's still absolutely rock hard.

roots come from pointed end. so its risky to rub that end. the round end will be the tip of the "leaf" & is much safer. always germinate more than what you need & expect some failures.

Y undesirable because the seedlings grow long? while planting, you can plant them deeper so that the whole stem goes under soil and gets supported by soil around it. So all is good.
Hi Prashanth, try air layering also and see which one gives you better results.
The easiest way is to put the seed in a paper towel well moistened water. Put in a bag with zipper for 3-4 days on a window, on sun. And that's all.

what does not pointed end mean
Hi Abhirath, Gulmohar seeds are pointed at one end and round at the other. The root comes out from the pointed end and can be easily damaged if you don't scrape it just right, on the sandpaper. Hence, it is safer to scrape the round end, bcos when the seed sprouts, that end is going to be the outer tip of the 2 green leaf like halves of the seed. So, even if you rub too much, I am guessing it should not prevent a sprouting. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching :-)

yes it takes only a day. you can scarify any part of the seed. the pointed end is the most risky bcos the tap root comes out from there. the leaf comes out from the rounded edge

you can rub the pointed end too, provided you do just enough very carefully else the part where root tip emerges will get damaged & cause failure. the risk is far less on the rounded end (leaf end)
