Thank you for your simple instructions, helped my daughter and grandsons replace her microwave. She is so happy that this video saved her $150.00 installation fee. 🙂
Our microwave just randomly died and wouldn't respond to anything. I had no idea how to get this beast down. These instructions were straightforward and made it a piece of cake! Thank you for making it simple and to the point!
Thank you!! Short, simple, totally helpful video. After watching 35 seconds of the guy who said, "I've never done this before" describe what WASN'T visible, I realized I just wasted 36 seconds. :) This was really helpful. One note to anyone removing a Kenmore microwave that dates from around 1999, I found a thin chrome colored rod behind the plastic vent cover. Pulling on that released a latch that then allowed the microwave to be tipped forward.
You might want to warn people to check and make sure the top of the microwave is not screwed in to the Duct Adapter. We pulled and pulled on ours until my wife got mad and took a hammer to the dry wall boards that surrounded the hole around the adapter - there we found that the adapter was screwed into the top of the microwave! Took them out, and the microwave came out just as easily as you show.
So I have been doing these for years. I put a blanket on the stove like previously suggested, then put a box, tote or I use a foam block under the microwave. Leave the stove in place. let the MW hang down and rest on the tote. now you can pull the cord thru and use 2 hands on both sides to pull the unit away. This makes it a one man job and no back strain.
Thank you so much. This really helped. Was removing a 21 year old Whirlpool microwave, had screws out and unplugged but it would still not come out until I read the post from dhdunn 1995 that explained about a chrome colored rod behind the plastic vent cover. That released a latch that allowed the microwave to tip forward. Easy peasy after that. Thank you all again. Hope this helps someone else.
Thanks! Ours died while preparing Christmas Dinner of all times. I had installed it in 2005 but forgot how. This reminded me about the two screws. Now we can replace it with no trouble at all, but I think I will get an extra set of strong hands to help with removal.
This is great information! I took the facing off and unplugged the unit. But, couldn't figure out where the screws were. Thanks to this video, I know. I need to get a step stool to see the screws at top. Can't wait to install my new unit. Thanks again, Adam!
Thank you, I figured out my problem. I’m about 3 inches to short to get good leverage. Bottom step on a step stool took care of that problem. It came right out. Thanks again.
Thank You! I watched this, and had my dead oven removed in less than a half hour. It helped that my microwave is very similar to the one in the vid. I thought the job would be so much more difficult. I also dismantled as much of the oven as I could to make it lighter.
Fantastic video, thank you. I wasn't sure if I could pull this project off myself, but you gave me the extra umph I needed to give it the old college try :-)
This was very helpful because I couldn't remember how I installed it. My only derogatory comment is that I will pad the top of my range so if the microwave slips someway I don't ruin a glass top range.
To facilitate installation is it safer to buy a similar model from the same brand. I assume mounting and brackets would be virtually identical whereas a different brand may mount differently.
Thanks. I put a large cooler chest under the microwave to support it during bolt removal. This didn't allow the microwave to tilt forward all the way. Once I moved the cooler I could lift the mw off the hooks.
Awais Khokhar I guess alot of people are waking up to the health risks of microwaves. I wish it would be that easy to rid ourselves of the 5G kill grid and smart meters.
I was trying this but I cannot lift from the mount. it's heavy for me so I put it back. I was thinking to buy a new one and let them install it instead. any suggestion?
Is is likely that if I remove my old microwave - I can leave those wall-mounted brackets and expect them to fit the new microwave? The old is a 2003 model Maytag.
Sure, leave the old one on and see if the new one will fit. Chances are it won't match but it's no more work to try. If you replace your microwave with the same brand you have a better chance of it working.
Thanks! Ended up getting a countertop model (young kids - closer to their height) for safety. However, when the time comes for the other - I'll take your advice. I appreciate it!
only two screws?! Maybe if you're lucky that's true! A MAJOR omission; if the microwave has a vent flange screwed to the top it can prevent the microwave from tipping forward. Plan to disconnect as much of the vent as necessary to access and remove the flange. Getting the microwave out may prove easy (once you're aware of the need to remove the flange), repositioning then re-taping the vent pipe can be a major pain! Oh, and I've heard some microwaves have extra catches that need released.
Ok, I unscrewed the screws, removed the tape securing the vent and that sucker is still stuck up there. It barely falls forward and just hangs there, I lift up on it and I get nothing!! Any ideas???
What model microwave is it? It could be the cabinets are built so tight its pressing the microwave in place. Or it's grease crust gunk that has it almost glued to the cabinet, or its a strange model with more than 2 screws. Sometimes the plug is in so tight it is in the way and stops the microwave from moving.
AdamDIY Its a Whirlpool, about 10 yrs old, it tips slightly forward but I cannot get it to budge from the rear towards the bottom. Do you think the grease has gotten it stuck on that bottom jclip bracket??
And, Then you also don’t have to worry about breaking your glass/ceramic cook top, If you take the extra minute of pulling your range out. That’s an expensive “Oops.”
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! If you decide to have someone install your over the counter microwave, as a homeowner, you want to make sure that certain installation steps are performed. When our previous microwave was installed by an authorized Home Depot installer, the installers worked really fast…..I’m mean REALLY FAST. I didn’t check on them and didn’t check on their workmanship…but I should have. When our previous microwave died last month, I decided to replace our previous one with the SAME EXACT MODEL, correct assuming that the wall bracket was going to be the same (it was) making the removal and replacement that much quicker. Since I’m retired now, I decided to pursue this as it is a relatively easy job as long as you can get someone to help you remove and install the new one. What I found after removing the previous one was that; 1. The wall bracket should have had FOUR fasteners installing it to the wall per the installation instructions. Instead, there were ONLY TWO fasteners holding the bracket to the wall…and one of them had missed the stud, so much that I was able to remove it with my fingers. Talk about cutting corners. 2. The microwave should have THREE fasteners holding it from the top shelf. Ours only had TWO fasteners. I guess drilling one more hole would take too much time 3. If you microwave has a ducted exhaust, make that that the outlet bracket is installed. The previous microwave that was removed did not. Again, who needs these things anyway. Most tradesmen have enough integrity to properly install an appliance into a customer’s home…but some don’t. Make sure that it is installed correctly……you don’t want it dropping onto your glass top stove after a few months and the installer are LONG GONE.
one very very dumb question, why do the americans place there microwave ovens over the stove .when you are boiling water surley that is going to effect the mwo and where does the axcess steam go to ,here in europe we use what the call and extractor fan which extract smells and steam ,please let me know
I don't like it over the stove but the bottom of the microwave does have an exhaust fan built in. The steam can then be pushed out of the building via a duct.
Not all US kitchens will have the ability to have an exhaust fan that goes up and outside. Therefore the microwave oven has a fan that can be used instead. Most people in US like the microwave ovens off of the counter tops to provide more space. I lived in Europe in several homes and there are pros and cons to everything. Cheers.
This is how you make a video correctly. Thank you for getting straight to the point. A+
Exactly. Usually, it's 2 minutes before they get to the point. Drives me crazy!!
Thank you for your simple instructions, helped my daughter and grandsons replace her microwave. She is so happy that this video saved her $150.00 installation fee. 🙂

Don't ever give your wife a hammer
Just be glad she didn't use it on you lol

Hey just fyi i did this today. Thank you
You helped us get our old microwave out easily, instead of the gargantuan task we were afraid it would be. Thanks.
Thank you! So grateful that there's a video online for nearly every household project, auto maintenance, dog care, and MORE MORE MORE
So to the point. Rare. Thanks, man.
Thank you for the under 2 minute video! Other people are making 9 minute videos for the same thing.

Thanks man! I love that you showed how to do it in 2 minutes instead of 20 like everyone else:)
Wow a video on something simple without 7 minutes of just talking in the beginning, thanks!!!!

Fantastic, really appreciated it. I will do it easily after seeing you video.
People like you bring HAPPINESS to others.
Cheers Brother,
Luigi
Thank you for sharing your knowledge in less than 2 minutes! Now it's clear what to do. Well done!
Older models frigidaire remove vent above front door. Remove big screw on left then right.
Great video. Short and to the point. Thanks AdamDIY.
i thought i was the only person 'careless' enough to remove/install heavy appliances by myself. nice job!
wow..nice job making this look easy
Thanks for this! Pro DIY tip. I put a bog box on the stove under it to help support it. Lol.
Very helpful for removing our microwave today, thanks!
Fantastic video, thank you. I wasn't sure if I could pull this project off myself, but you gave me the extra umph I needed to give it the old college try :-)

Adam, you're a legend.

Thanks for the tip! I need to do one coming up 👋
Straight to the point! Thank you for the efficient video!
Thank you soooooooo much. I thought it would’ve been more difficult and complicated
Thank you for posting a quick and easy to follow video. Appreciate it!
+Golden Rules Just popped out exactly like you said. Had to push up a little and pull out, but it was text book as you described. Thank you again.
This is great. You get right to the point.
A real pro you made it so simple thanks
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I used your video to remove my microwave. It was the same model pictured.
Ty fir your help and guidance. ❤🎉
You have saved my day. Thanks for this awesome video.
so good. you helped me completely with this video.
Thank you much. I knew there is something somewhere helping to hold it up. Now I know it is in the back. Thank you VERY MUCH..
Thank you! You just saved me a lot of time and effort!
Thank you. I don't know what I did witht the installation book. You helped me.
This is good. You made it look so simply Thank You!💓
Great. Now pls make another video to show how you install that exhaust on top of the hood. TIA
Awais Khokhar
I guess alot of people are waking up to the health risks of microwaves. I wish it would be that easy to rid ourselves of the 5G kill grid and smart meters.
Great vid. You seem like a nice guy so.. please reconsider the placement of your paper towels to decrease the risk of starting a fire. 10/10
HEADS UP be careful when you pull the microwave down that it doesn't hit the burner knob and turn your stove on
Wow thanks straight to the point
Thanks for the instruction. I was expecting it to be much more difficult..which was leading to some procrastination..:(
I have a stove top attatched to the microwave. One of those old stove and microwave duo sets in one. Is there still a way to remove the microwave?
Hi, we have removed the two top bolts, but something is still holding the microwave--it's an older model. Any thoughts? Thank you.
I was trying this but I cannot lift from the mount. it's heavy for me so I put it back. I was thinking to buy a new one and let them install it instead. any suggestion?
I have same issue, its killing my back and it wont come out
awesome video thanks for your work
thanks a lot man! just by looking at it not knowing what to do, makes it seem more complicated. now my wife will get off my back! ha ha
Thanks for the video!

Thank you Sir very helpful
Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you so much
About how much does an over the range microwave weigh?
about 50 pounds or a bit more.
I can't believe I missed the screws inside the cabinet at the top... Lol, thank you!!!
Thank you
Awesome, thanks
Perfect... thank you!
Our microwave does not have bolts coming up through the cabinet above. How shall we proceed to remove microwave??
+kenny play I would have to see it to know. What is the model number?
about how much does it weigh!? I realize everyone is a bit different but a full size like yours approx.?
it's like 50 pounds

Kathryn Foster If it did, you will see a lot of grease stuck to the bottom of the microwave. If it looks clean, then it's likely not stuck by gunk.
Should we "ASSUMED" every mounting bracket is "brand" specific if you go with a different brand???
Nice video
You'll find it's a lot easier on your back if you remove the stove first.
And, Then you also don’t have to worry about breaking your glass/ceramic cook top, If you take the extra minute of pulling your range out. That’s an expensive “Oops.”

nice perfect helped me out and simple÷
1 min 45 is all a guy needs.

How much do you think is a fair price for doing that for you? Considering the time , the gas, the tools and the labour.. I think $40 is decent..
Bzzzt WRONG. Took the two screws out of the top and this thing is still rock solid.
six years later...................................thank you.
That's great - THANK YOU:-)
Thank you!!!!
Thanks! Sir
Mine is not attached to the cabinets. How the hell do I remove this thing
Awesome!
thanks
whoa you are strong
Thanks :)
Good ol overhead Samsung microwaves - they last 1 day.
Why are there thumbs down for a correct way to do something lol. Some people sheesh.
