@@What.its.like. Thank you, over the past couple of weeks I've had blood drawn, a CT scan, x-rays & a echocardiogram. I'm home taking it slowly & feeling a little better!!! Tuesday I will see my doctor to find out the results of all the tests!!! I'm slowly getting back to my routine so hopefully I won't miss any more of your videos!!! 🙂

my ma and uncle used to giggle when the Scout TV ad came on and it totally bewildered me. Something about "Get 'em Up, Scout!"
We see some of these from time to time in Switzerland. They also served as base for the Swiss made Monteverdi Sahara and Safari. The main customers were in the Middle East (!). Interesting but thirsty machines...

My first car was a '74 Scout 2 bought new for cash. ! I wish I still had my Scout ! 😢
My Father was a IH mechanic for nearly 20 years. He had 2 Scouts, and 2 Travelalls. All were stick, all were from the 60's. I believe all the stick trannies were from Borg. When my Father passed In one of the outbuildings, I found (3) complete 304 V8's and a 258-6 on pallets enclosed in wooden boxes. I later found out they were removed from low-mileage totals that were brought to the dealership and used for used parts for employees for their cars. I took his 65 Travelall for my driving test, but failed because it was a huge vehicle, and could not parallel park it. I used my Mother's Mercury.
I should have went through all of internationals offerings I love the travel all also ever noticed how much the bronco looks like the scout it’s almost a carbon copy.. I never noticed it until doing this episode =)
Those travels are huge I wonder how big they are in comparison to a GMC suburban. Awesome story
When I was going to community college in Rockford Illinois, I was working part time for Lunde Truck Sales and they sold international and Peterbilt Trucks. They had a Scout as a company vehicle for chasing parts and other errands. This was in the early 70s. I haven’t seen a scout or travel all for years.

Another bit of trivia, you can get the Jeep 232 and 258 6cyl in the scout. Take a guess what 4x4 the Nissan Diesels were used in, something that was sold here in the 60s ,but it was not until the Nissan Armada was available in the US this model was not available during the same years as the Scout II was, it's called the Nissan Patrol, this model was available elsewhere in the world and was a Favorite for the UN peace keepers

I've always like the look of the stock versions. I think there are a really nice cool looking vehicle 😎 I've never ridden in or driven one. I have mostly seen them in print ads of old magazines that I used to collect. Man, finally a song that I knew, but was a little bit late . 😊
My dad had I believe either a 68 or 71 Scout pickup truck short bed back in the mid 80s
Not really sure of the year because I was in middle school, although I do recall that the previous owner had put a Chevrolet 350 corvette engine in it.
Working on finding one of my own, not just for nostalgic purposes, but also that truck could climb a tree if it had to.

They built a LOT of Stuff + a lot of it is STILL on the road. Trucks & buses. I was 21 yrs. old when I learned to drive a stick. It was @ the now defunct AstroWorld themed park (Houston, TX) 1972 Chevy Luv truck. I was taught during my "lunch break" by David (senior sign painter) I worked as apprentice in the Sign Shop from summer '88 through early Spring 1989. It would backfire every time you'd change gears. It was fun zipping around those 90 acres of park. I also had a bicycle to do my morning pre-check of park signage. There was a 15 acre water park to check as well. It was ALSO a rust bucket with an in house "bumper" welded around it.

I belive IH offered a turbo version of the Comanche 4 cyl from 1965-67 to compete with the 6 cylinders offered by the Broncos and Jeep

Funny that you asked the question about the 392, no technically it was not available, but the 196cid 4cyl was based on the 392, the 4cyl was half of the 392.

The original scouts were meant to compete with the jeep and early broncos. The scout 2 was meant to compete more with the jeep commando and wagoneer and the bronco & blazer.. the scout 2 was much bigger than the original scout. Most had the 304 ih v8 in them not to be confused with the amc 304.. the diesel option was 1980 only and was a Nissan sd33T turbo diesel. I’ve always wanted a scout since I was a little kid as my dad worked and retired from ih East moline plant. We had tons of family and friends that worked at farmall in rock island that moved to Ohio or Indiana after they shut down farmall in 85.. all we have left here is Deere. It’s sad really.. ih was once a great company that failed because of poor management who we’re making too much money.. Volkswagen just bought the rights to the scout name and will be producing a scout that’s electric and looks much like tge original scouts. It’s supposed to be the most capable off road electric vehicle ever made.. jeep in the early 2000’s started making the renegade suv that copied a lot of the scouts designs like the grill, the angled upRear side windows etc. Redcat racing makes a great RC version of tge scout. I’ve got one, it’s awesome. Goes literally anywhere.. great video. Have a nice day

I would re-word your first sentence. The Bronco was introduced in 1966 to compete against the Scout. The historically class leading Scout came out in 1961 and is the undisputed originator of the compact, family friendly SUV. A brilliant design of uncompromized simplicity and function.
The 392 was available with the Scout Traveler, but I’ve never seen any documentation showing it in the short wheelbase Scout II
The 392 was never available as a factory option in the Scout, Terra or Traveler. It was available in the Travelall. A handful of the modified Baja racing Scouts had 392s. Also, I've heard rumors that some people have had IH dealerships replace the original engines with 392s, but I have no first hand knowledge of this. I have a revised cooling 392 in my Scout because I put it in there.
Add a 65 scout I used to beat the daylights out of it and it would out 4x4 for any of my friends full body that I went 4-wheeling with

The final Scouts were offered in the Terra Scout version in 1979-1980. The only ones I saw had the Nissan SD33-T Turbodiesel engine. An odd pushrod engine more at home in industrial usage.
The gas-engine Scouts started out with the 152 c.i. slant 4cyl., which was a 304 V8 with one of the cylinder banks cut off. Pontiac did a similar thing using half of a 389 V8.
With the 2nd generation Scout 800, a 266 c.i. V8 was offered. You could also get the AMC 232 six.
In 1966 the Scout upped to the 196 c.i. slant 4 , which was half of a 392 V8. The 4 cyl. was offered with a turbo charger.
The Scout 800A offered a 304 c.i. V8 and the inline 6 was dropped.
In 1970, with the Scout 800B the inline 6 was back.
With the Scout II, it eventually gained the 345 c.i. V8 , the AMC 258-6 and the Nissan diesels.
No. The 392 V8 was never offered in a Scout and it was even rare in the full-sized IHC pick-ups. One thing you might not know is that the IHC V8's all had the same external dimensions, so you could swap them and I am sure that somebody did swap a 392 in.
Probably, the biggest -con for the Scout was that it was too heavy. They had weak axles which could snap when you were in the back-country. I don't think that any of the U.S. newcomers to the off-road market could hold a stick to the Jeep CJ's. Weighing in at 2,000 to 3,000 pounds, the Jeeps could go where the others couldn't. Jeep CJ's at one time came with AMC 304 V8's and 258 6's. With the Wrangler, after they started putting in the fuel injected 4L six, nobody else could touch them.
Growing up, my father had a Willys CJ-2 which in 1970, we rebuilt it from the ground up. We put a nearly new Ford 351W V8 in it and a Borg-Warner 4-speed, the same one IHC used. With 4.27:1 positraction differentials it could climb a telephone pole. As an example, in low range and compound 1st gear, with the engine running at 6,000 rpm's, you could walk beside the Jeep. Giving it a little more gas, at near 7,000 rpm's, you would have to start jogging. Ofcourse the lifters started floating!

Thank you for that information on the axel shafts I did a lot of homework on this car but.. I couldn’t find anything that was said about it.
The Terra pickup came out in 1976 to replace the full sized Pickup and the SD33T was only available in the last year of the Scout II 1980. Scout IIs used Dana 44 axles and they were far from being weak.
I loved my 79' IH Scout but I hated my 64' scout with the half v-8
The 79' was a white roof over copper body 304 4x4
Keep in mind... the 60s and 70s were pretty hard on IH and AMC, and the 80s were going to be even worse. So even if the Jeep was a direct competitor neither company could really afford to be that picky income was income. That's one of the reasons for all the engine offerings, what engine could they get the best price on, fit into the existing vehicle, and sell the most of (and meet the ever increasing emissions requirements) . Jeeps even had so buick engine offerings in that time. IH and AMC would even do things like graft a ford ignition system/distributor to an AMC engine because the R&D costs were hard for them to cover. One of IH survival strategies later in the 80s was sell Ford diesels to put in their F series even though they were competing with big trucks Ford was interested in developing a 'light duty' diesel for their trucks

International is now owned by Volkswagen I think it would be totally cool if they bring back the scout just think of it bronco his back scale is back the blazer they need to redo it more of a muscular off-road vehicle that it was not the crappy Version they have now
@@What.its.like. I didn't know that Volkswagen had bought International. I have always been partial to IH and Jeep, but generally I am a Ford person. Your story about learning to drive stick sounds very familiar 🙂. I think I'm a bit older than you growing up in the 80s and 90s, but when I was 7 my dad decided that mowing our 3 acre yard was to be one of my weekly chores so he put me on our 106 cub cadet and showed me how to work the controls and told me not to run it off the bank.... problem was I wasn't tall enough to reach the clutch pedal and barely heavy enough to engage the deck. I would stand up on the running board, holding on the steering wheel then stand with most of my weight on the clutch bend down and change gears then set back down. To engage the deck I would stand up and grab the handle and fall back into the seat. He watched me make 3-4 laps and then went off to do his chores. As long as he heard me making laps he knew I was fine. If he ever heard the mower stop he'd come around and check it out, that's also when I figured out running out of gas sucked because I had to carry the can out to the mower and it weighed about ½ what I did full. But that's how I learned to drive a stick , I actually got good enough to shift while moving before I was tall enough to rech the clutch fully 😅
BTW, if you ever have a chance to check out a INTERNATIONAL MXT you should they're not a lot out there I have only seen 2 it's essentially a medium duty truck setup as a pickup I believe it was there way off testing the waters in the late 00s

By the way, my grandparents had an IH refrigerator(1950's vintage)as I was growing up in the 1970s. In 2001 I bought my first house, with it came an IH fridge, probably 60's era, with "Feminaire" or something similar on it's badging. I put a new compressor on it and it worked like new. You can see that same fridge on Freinds reruns, if that's your thing.

Welcome to the channel it’s a learning channel I set up to make this for people that want to get into the car hobby dad wants something different than Mustang Camaro Corvette. So we put a rock on the seat so he could sit far enough forward to push in pedsls . Don't tell any safty wardens . Lol .

Was the 304 V8 not also supplied by AMC? That is what I had in my 70 Ambassador DPL hardtop.
I thought that I had to double check apparently that 304 was made by international.. but lots of conflicting information out there

I love these cars, my uncle had one when I was a kid.
International holds a special place in my heart grandpa was my best friend I wouldn’t be the man I am without him.. I couldn’t find any pictures of the fields we worked it was work but I had fun grandpa let me drive 95 f150 at 7/8 years old. Which he must have really trusted me because that truck would have been brand new. Great memories

Drove a Farmall on my uncle's farm when I was a kid. Great fun. It was my toy.
Love those tractors they were built to last and they would run forever I see more of those around here the new tractors really, not saying that there aren’t any new tractors around here just saying that every farmer has a farmer that’s why grandpa like them because they were built to last and they run forever especially if they’re maintained they will never break. I remember seeing made in USA on the side of it I don’t have it anymore unfortunately I wish I kept it but I didn’t want to rotten to the ground so I sold it to somebody that was going to use it

Made a post with some correct Scout and IH historical information and a link to the Scout Encyclopedia Book which would give you additional correct information, it appears to have been deleted, just trying help you.
Champion was a farm equipment manufacturer not the spark plug company. The IH v8 266 was offered first in the Scout followed by the IH v8 304, there were no 392s offered in any Scouts, and the AMC 232 came in the 800, the 258 was later offered as standard in the early Scout IIs.
