    Followed step by step and took care to make sure and get the heat to evenly heat up the chip and it seems to have worked. Still testing so will update once some time has passed. Also, once I finished heating it, I placed a piece of electrical tape over the ic chips just to keep them in place. I know it'ñ might not be a permanent fix, but if it works for a little while longer I'll be happy! Thanks for the video!

    Just want to say, Thank you so much for this video!! My phone was getting unusable it was happening all the time. I followed this vid exactly, 30 sec, 3 times, phone has been perfect for almost 3 weeks now!! I waited some time before writing this to make sure and issue hasn't happened at all since. This is the REAL fix. The disassembly instructions you linked are great too.

      Had the exact same issue. Will try this now.
      Ofc. my iphone is just lying arround these days.
      After this happened to my 2 year old iphone 6plus *(A 1000$ phone!!!)* I immediately switched to Android.
      At this pricepoint this is simply unacceptable. I have an entire graveyard of apple products. all died bc. of simple mechanical engineering issues that i could have fixed as an undergrad 1 year at colledge! They either have 0 good mechanical engineers, or they don't listen to them.
      My guess is that design department and management always gets the upper hand in the meetings... screw apple!

    • @surrealengineering7884
      @surrealengineering7884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to know what killed the other products:
      Product - Cause of death - how long did it last
      Macbook pro 2011 - Overheating - 4.5 years
      I pad mini 2012 - Grey screen - 2 years (to the week)
      Mac Pro 2013 - Overheating - 2.5 years
      I phone 6 plus - Bendgate - 2 years
      Which was the final straw!
      If you follow the timeline, you'll have noticed that almost all my devices gave out ~ 2016... Which extra sucked!
      Never ever again buy from apple. You have been warned :)
      Ofc. i also had the apple tv 'blinking light for ever' issue after 2 years and all apple crap cables only lasted 1 year, dead earphones and a lot of other small overpriced shit that died randomly, but that's not my main concern.
      I now have switched mostly to ASUS, Acer and Dell. Can recommend. Especially the Zenphone is fast and has 0 issues!

  • @ChrisLongPhoneRepair
    @ChrisLongPhoneRepair 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    The pressure you applied "fixed" the fracture in the solder joint. More a less you could have just pushed your finger on it and accomplished the same thing. If the solder under that chip had gotten hot enough to melt they pressure you applied would have pushed the BGA solder out and bridged all the connections under that IC.
    Get your phone fixed correctly. I6 cumulus most of the time is the issue. i6+ Meson is usually the issue and more specifically a faulty pad under Meson.

    • @grcarvalho
      @grcarvalho 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i had this problem and stumbled upon this video, as you mentioned i just pressed with a rubber to do an even pressure, the touch was not working at all, and now all is back working. Lets see how long it will take.

    • @SkLeRaTOO
      @SkLeRaTOO 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they do not agree, the heat melts slightly the pond and brings it back to the initial situation, in fact you can smell the dissolved tin when applying this guide, it also produces a lot of heat on the chip, the same as is achieved with a thermally hot air gun

    • @grcarvalho
      @grcarvalho 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, i havent applyed heat to it, just pressure, and it made it work well for a month or so, then i came back to the same situation (as i predicted it would happen), so what i did was press the phone (without opening it) untill it stop doing the problem, then i took it to a store that pay back for used iphones when you buy a new iphone and bought an iphone 7 with 3 years of extra guarantee.
      And for all the research i did after, i discovered that there is no fix for the problem, as after the first bend the phone gets more and more pliable and fragile. It is an structural thing!

    • @SkLeRaTOO
      @SkLeRaTOO 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      actually you should remove the old chip and apply a new hot air welding it, so repair is 100% conclusive

    • @grcarvalho
      @grcarvalho 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i fully agree with you that this is the best way to fix, but i think that the problem will come back sooner or later as the phone will bend more and more.

    I did this fix which sort of helped out. Before the fix, the touch screen wouldn't work at all. Now it will intermittently work. Whenever the gray bars come down from the top of the screen I can just bend the phone a little and that will fix it. Rinse and repeat. Apple should fix these diseased iPhones for free. Not our fault for a design flaw.

    Wow Lucas this really fixed it. I almost didn't try it because it seemed like a long shot since touch disease is usually associated with a gray bar along the top, but this phone didn't have that. Also when I opened it up I saw some spots that looked kind of overheated/burned, which I thought might be a bigger issue. I found a spot of gold solder or something that normally has a little thermal sticker on it and the sticker had been smudged away and off of it too. I put that back and I proceeded with the soldering trick even though my mind had been trying to tell me it was just that sticker. It might have been, but doubtful. Your trick saved this phone and now my Mom can use it to save money by switching to Xfinity Mobile! Thank you. Also - since this worked for me I went ahead and liked and subscribed. You earned it!

      pretty much! I just took my phone out of the case and pressed it between both hands pretty firmly, held it for a few seconds and it worked. Thanks for this vid! Have not tried it yet... possible to post a LINK to the solder tool you purchased? Also, why do you only touch the chip with the screw? Does the aluminum foil have to 'melt' or does it just end up sticking to the chip and that's when you know it's good to go?
    I believe having a very tight protective case possibly contributes to the development of this issue (and when the case is removed it seems to occur less)
    I believe removing the metal plate over connectors helped me out a bit, and also helped (more quickly) to get it to stop flickering. HOWEVER, what helped even more, was adding one piece of electrical tape folder and in-between connectors and plate. When I did this I was only able to screw in 2 of the screws.. but I don't care because this helped much more (less flicker, easier to stop it when it occurs, etc., and only requires a slight pressure on the EDGE of phone near the chip).
    Also, when you're twisting phone to get the Flicker to stop, you may see the grey bar disappear.... but the Touch still doesn't work.... and I've noticed that sometimes you need to then hit the power-button (upper right side) and use the thumb-login or dial pad to log in to the phone, and then it works for whatever reason.
    If you don't do this method, or send in for micro-soldering repair, this flicker will not stop... sorry to say. I've been dealing with this for about 1 year, and it has it's good moments, but lately it has gotten much worse.
    While I had it open, I ended up replacing the battery.... BE CAREFUL DOING THIS.... make sure you SLOWLY remove the sticky/tabs, because if they snap too soon, you'll have the adhesive beneath the battery and you'll have to PRY it out and this will be very difficult and dangerous (potential ACID if you cut into the battery). Also, purchase your adhesive tape FIRST, because you will need this and your replacement battery probably won't arrive with the strips.

    • @LucasGuanes
      @LucasGuanes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey, I bought a really cheap soldering iron like this one: goo.gl/YJ1QEQ
      The aluminum is just there to transfer the heat more evenly on the chip surface thats all. It is the solder underneath the chip that melts but you can't see it.

    • @anthonydipizzio1623
      @anthonydipizzio1623 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Lucas! I think I understand... are you saying that once you apply the heat 3 times at 30 seconds each, you then just remove the aluminum piece and assume the solder melted and fixed the issue... and then put it all back together to test it out?
      Also, why do you use the screw on the solder tool? is that to apply less heat to the chip?

    I like your method to do reballing ic with soldering gun but what you said about the “heat gun” is wrong. You don’t put aluminum foil around ic to work with heat gun on ic because aluminum foil will transfer the heat that you apply to other components around ic. Because of this issue; pro’s use orange color insulating tape around ics in order to protect other components from heat.

  • @postlex

    Hi, I have this problem too, and it happened after I replaced my battery. To do that I disconnected the "connectors" (the 4 connectors/cables) so that I could take off the screen to properly deal with the battery. Judging from this helpful video, I realized that the chips that are not properly making contact and causing the "touch disease" are in fact placed on the logic board DIRECTLY BENEATH the area where the connectors are connected to the logic board. Thus, my suggestion/question is that disconnecting and later connecting the connectors may "cause" the issue in the first place (by pulling up the connectors and/or pushing the connectors back on later) - does this make sense?

    • @anthonydipizzio1623
      @anthonydipizzio1623 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's there just to hold the connectors in place.... but more of a 'formality'... I'm not saying it has NO effect, but I'm thinking it's safe to keep it OFF if it helps. I don't see the risk of exposure.... I don't see how anything internally would create an issue for the exposed connectors. If you screen goes black when you're trying to twist to stop flickering, then you could open up and probably see the right-side connector needs to be re-seated.

    After doing this the screen on my iPhone started working again, but now after 2 weeks the screen no longer works at all, It is turned on and my computer detects the iPhone but the phone doesn't do anything not even vibrate or make noise when I call it. Could it be a logic board problem? I have already tried restoring it and holding power+home nothing works.

    Another much easier solution is to place a nano SIM card under the thin metal cover that goes over the 4 display connectors. Search TH-cam for "arif iPhone 6 touch disease SIM card". The TH-camr is "arif" and it worked for me. My 6 plus had no touch response at all unless I applied pressure to bend the phone. Now it's perfect.
    I guess the SIM card is just thick enough to press the Touch IC on the flip side of the logic board, enough to make good the connectors. (I've typed this on my "repaired" 6 plus.
