My iphone 6 has been acting possessed for the last 6 months or so. Every... Single.... Time... I'd... Use... It...... Screen randomly stops working, sometimes the phone will unlock by itself, open the camera and snap a bunch of photos back to back and then shut down. If I had text open, it would randomly start texting a bunch of things like "fdsaklj asdjk 84,a 8arl dsa as" and then send the text.. ALL WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE PHONE.... Weird stuff randomly happening, but I refused to upgrade. I will never buy another iphone again. EVER.... I found this video as a last ditch effort before tossing this phone and going with an android, but this video worked. It's been 24 hours and my phone hasn't acted up once. THANK YOU

Hey man just wanted to thank you for this fix! I replaced my screen and still had the problem. figured it was touch disease but didn't want to pay for my phone to be fixed by apple. Took me about an hour to insert the tape and BINGO! it works as good as new. don't listen to the "haters", a wise man once said if it's stupid and it works... it ain't stupid. Thanks again.

Most of the people who warn against this idea are members of a trained micro soldering community. Non of us make any money commenting here. These ICs are not simply lose. They have weak bonds from corrosion. Squeezing these corroded points back together is like putting a spacer at the back of a flashlight that has leaking batteries. Hi Rody. I would just like to give a massive thank you to you for posting this video. My iPhone 6 Plus was having major problems with an unresponsive screen, and, after following your instructions, thanks to you - My phone is now fully working again with a fully responsive screen! I'm so grateful for selfless, kind people like you who take the time to post videos to help others. God bless you my friend! Thank you so much!
I performed this fix 2 months ago and my wife's phone is still working perfectly. Saved me the $350 plus dollars I was quoted for a fix. I had never taken a phone apart but found it to be relatively easy if you just take your time and take notes as you go. Thanks Rody
Exactly. This isn't that hard and yes, it is a fix. As good a fix as anything else out there. Even if it just holds me out long enough until my contract is out and I can get a new phone. Or better yet, wait for the iphone 8.
A good 4 months after doing this fix, my wife broke her screen. I've since replaced the screen and phone is still going strong. I'm still standing by this fix and the money saved towards my next upgrade whenever that comes.
NEED HELP!! My iphone 6 has a weird horizontal lines on its bottom of the screen. sometimes it showed up but sometimes its gone. now it had a lot of line than before.. please is there any advice ? :')
I have yet to try this repair but for those who don't understand the SCIENCE behind this. The tape forces the chip down onto the motherboard when its screwed into the housing of the phone. Basically your chip has become ever so slightly disconnected from the phone and this fix prevents u from removing the whole chip and replacing the solder. I'm going to try it out as ive tried a billion new touch screens and none of them work. Also the phone in question I plugged in a new touch screen and it worked for about 3 mins then stopped home and power worked for a min and a half eventually stopped working and hasn't worked since. UPDATE: Worked like charm! Nice thank you for your fix. I can micro solder I just really hate it!
I posted a few weeks ago that after I purchased the tools from Frys (you'll have to buy the ones specifically for Apple - about $15) I had a problem in doing this because one of the microscopic screws was already stripped at the factory. I couldn't drill it out (worried about damage to the sensitive mechanisms) and finally gave up. But then the Apple store told me that it would cost $150 to repair, or I could buy a new phone (with the same flaw) - and blamed it on ME! So I then reread the posts here and saw one of the posters only took the back off (about 0:48 into the video), then, put the tape bundle *on top* of where the touch censors as opposed to going through the complete dismantle, and he swore it worked. So I did the same, wrapping the tape around a couple of more times for good measure. It works GREAT! No problems...THANK YOU RODY!!
I highly recommend to anyone doing this that you draw a map of the internal layout of your phone and draw little circles where you take a screw out, placing that screw on the map. It's vital that you replace the SAME screw where you took it from as they are different sizes.
Already replaced the phone and it was just sitting around. Took it to a repair shop to ask about fixing it for one of my kids. They told me about the touch disease then. (An entire year after the issue and I was never contacted as being a 6plus owner). The repair shop quoted “at least $140 and the phone isn’t even worth that much”. So daughter was willing to twist it to get it to work, but that seemed stupid. Just paid $11 for a precision toolkit and followed the steps and it’s working with no bending! Good enough for me! Thank you!
Man nice work. I did this repair back in Nov to my 6+ and it worked perfectly the first time. Haven't had a problem since. Don't mind all these tech shops that are hating on you. Not everyone has the $$$ to pay for these things. And they are losing money to the somewhat tech swave viewers who can preform this procedure following your instructions. Not meant for all. But keep up the good work man
Completely fixed my problem!!! Works perfectly!!!! And I don't like my cell phone at all, so your video saved me 250 dollars (price in Brazil for the fixing). Of course I've made a mess with the screws (I've never opened a cell phone before) and there's one left looking at me right now (I don't care!!!). But everything is working perfectly! Thank you very much!!!
I folded mine 9 times. I made it full width then cut it to precisely fit just on the two chips and not overhanging onto the board. Works perfectly the first time!! Take your time and do it right the first time. Take pictures and or keep your screws separated so you get the right screws in the right places!!! I believe there are 7 different kind of screws. Length and width vary. Other than that very good idea! I believe it's a better fix that heat gun soldering it back as it will keep the constant pressure on the chip so the problem does not come back!! Your the man! Thank you.
It worked! My iPhone 6 Plus became infected with the no touch disease. I watched this video and preformed the operation and now my phone works perfectly! I used 3 little squares of electric tape. Thank you.
This is the best band-aid fix ever. Works like a charm. My iPhone 6 Plus developed this issue recently, perhaps coincidentally after updating to iOS 11.2.1. Thanks so much.
Hi zenapsgas : unfortunately the issue did return. I think I could have added an extra layer of electrical tape and made it work, but instead I visited the Apple store and opted to replace my device for the price of a screen replacement. I have no regrets about trying this fix though!
I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you, for this post. I took a chance and removed the motherboard and followed your instructions, when I put everything back together I was getting grey lines and squares on the screen. I assessed what could be wrong which something must have no been reconnected properly, I re-did the process disassembled everything and to my surprise the apple logo popped up. I was back in business. This trick works. It saved me a lot of money.
My aunt’s touch screen failed the other day and she didn’t have a backup saved. This method worked and I was able to get the screen working to take a backup! The only problem I had was removing the standoff screws since I didn’t have the right screwdriver, however I was able to finagle it with a flathead.
Did this yesterday afternoon and it is still working. Usually it would have already glitched out by now and I am writing this msg from the same phone. Seem to have worked!!! Thanks man.
Hi there, I have followed your guide step by step. My phone is still as it was before i added the tape in. Is there by any chance another reason why my phone screen does not register touch or swipe? I've tried your method also i had brought a completely new screen. Im looking for any other suggestions to which the problem could be. I would get it repaired professionally which would cost a fortune but only as my last resort. Thanks
Thanks Rody, this method really works.. I did this 8-10 months ago, until now there's no problem.. the ghost touch won't come back. To those who don't believe, go pay the shop and ask them fix if for you. If you want to fix it free and fast.. try follow Rodys video
never took a phone apart before was told my local cell repair phone was not fixable. Followed tutorial hour later full working function. Good job for getting this information out! keep up the awesome work!!!!
Great information. On your next video can you show me how to properly install a headphone jack in my iPhone 7? I messed up the last 2 times and am out of insurance claims.
My phone screen originally was constantly flickering and turning off and on. After i tried this tutorial IT COMPLETELY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I couldn't believe that a piece of electrical tape would fix it but it did. Thanks Rody!
Thanks for a Great fix-video! My 6 Plus is almost working now after putting in the tape. It still stops occasionally, but I can live with it until i get a new phone. BUT, my Wi-Fi signal is weak after the fix 😕, Do you think its just that I got too close to the antenna and broke it during the fix, or do you have any other idea, hopefully a solution? Thanks again 🙂.
From an I.T. professional I would like to say this is a good tip for users whom are either saving up for IC repair or plan to upgrade to a new phone. The iPhone touch disease is something Apple should have fixed before they shipped the phones... But..... Electronic issues keep us professionals in business despite who is at blame (manufacture or customer).
Update 12/15/16: After hard reseting my phone (hold power and home till it reboots), and taking the screen off and tightening one of the screws behind the white mark on my screen, most of my issues have gone away now. Phone is definitely much more stable now. I can get it to freeze still by pressing firmly on the location where the IC chips are, but a quick power button press and login clears the issue quickly. I still have a smaller white mark on the screen, have ordered a better screwdriver to tighten the screws another turn and see if it goes away. YMMV, I probably would do it all over again, given I just don't want to spend either the $150 to get Apple to fix it (and problem come back again), or buy another iphone 7. I think I would take HateTheG's suggestion and use a thick piece of rubber band. Thanks for posting this! Thanks much for this video, unfortunately I followed all the steps very carefully, made sure I had a thick enough tape, put'r all back together...and same problem. It's intermittent, but when it happens, have to hit power button and lock it, and re-open it. I also have a white blotch on my screen now, about 5 mm square. Not major enough to complain about, but I sure would not try this procedure again, took over an hour to very, very carefully track every little screw. So thanks again, but it did not fix my issue!
After having Touch Disease for 2 weeks, I applied this hack and it has worked perfectly for 2 days now. I'm also being very careful with my phone when placing it down! Thanks :)
I just want to thank the TH-camR!!! this fixed saved me 600 bucks cause i was going to buy another phone!! Thanks brother and yes this does work i have stress tested my phone like crazy and it does work 100%
Haven't tried it but don't take the stupidness of people to heart, they're most likely annoyed that you found a way to fix a problem that makes them money, keep doing what ya doin, Great Job!!
This definitely works. Instead of tape, I cut a piece of a fairly thick rubber band and place it on the chips under that tape. Been working for almost two weeks without one little flicker. Thank you for this video.
Just completed this work-around on my iPhone 6+, been working perfectly since. Thanks for the video Rody. Will update later if it begins experiencing issues, however I don't have any reason to believe that will occur. For anyone thinking about doing this, do it (order the $12 kit on amazon so you've got the right tools). The hardest part was putting it back together, which just took a bit of time. Also - be sure not to mix up which screws go where, for this I laid everything out on a sheet of graph paper according to its relative position.
Thanks for the useful video. Mine just got "the disease" today. Sorry about all the trolls on here that seem to have a financial interest in people using their services so they go out trashing people who provide an alternative solution. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. This worked great for me. I have been suffering with the condition for a couple years now and it got really bad recently. I took it to the Apple store since they have a touch disease program but was told my phone was too old Last ditch effort, I follow these instructions and after one false start (cables needed to be reseated) it’s working like a champ! Better than having a glitchy phone and way cheaper than a repair.
I completed your procedure in placing the electrical tape on those 2 chips and reassembled the Iphone, but I'm experiencing some vertical lines when all done, what is your suggestion in checking for?
i used this trick on my iPhone 6+ 128gb because it is such a great phone that i would hate to have it stop working. also this has worked great so far with no problems. thanks for instructing me on how to do this.
Yes, it should. You could also put an old SIM card on top in between the connectors and the metal plate (upper right) and put it back on without taking all the screws and logic board apart.
This works! Aside from adding sim to the flex of the screen. Do i need to reduce the electrical tape that i put in to the ic? There is a huge bump on my screen and it will not fully close the screen
i just tried it because it seems logical. its functioning now but will give you an update in a few hours or days. thank you. really appreciate. in the case it happens again tho, i should try using a bigger piece of tape?
BOOM MIC DROP BIG SHOUT OUT TO YOU RODY DAVIES. IT WORKS as a long time user of iPhone the 6 plus is one of the worst made. i was a user who had to bend his phone everyday all day i was kick off my warranty form At&T and apple so this video works just take your time so noting messes up.
Hi! The solution proposed worked as a charm. I managed to map the screws not to miss anything while putting it back but know I have another problem. After assembling it I saw that the phone is really heating up in that area and sometimes even shutting off. Also the front camera is not working but it is connected properly. Any suggestions to what i might've done ? Any other users experience this issue ? Thank you!
I definitely thought I wouldn’t be able to put everything back in its place. I was worried. I just kept skipping back from the end to put it back together. Actually worked.👍👍👍
Thank-You so much Rody Davis for this quick fix!! My iPhone 6Plus was unresponsive even to bending it and I was fear that all was going to be lost as I had not backed up for a while, however, I did this, and it has worked 100% for me, the touch screen is working and as we speak I am backing up all my photos from my phone!! Big AAA+++ to this life hack.
Thank you! I haven't used my iPhone 6 plus in 4 years. Found it in a box and decided to see if it was possible to fix the touch disease. Works like a charm! Shame on Apple for the way they handled the touch disease debacle. There's no way they didn't know.
@@makaylacrudup8690 Hi. It worked great for the first few days, then it started acting up again, but not as bad as it was. I can usually make it work again for a while by tapping the back of the phone. Since both solutions require taking the phone apart, I would actually recommend doing the soldering fix (found eslewhere on the web) if possible. This one turned out to be unreliable.
Hey Rody - First off, thanks for the 2 vids! Now my issue is that my phone does get a little warmer than what I remember when using it, even after a few minutes. It's not burning hot, but definitely feel a little warmth right by where the tape was put. Is this common, even normal? I did reopen it again and re-seat everything. I also stripped 2 of the small screws in different areas, does that effect things drastically?
I purchased the Apple screwdrivers at Fry's, and began to disassemble my Iphone 6. However, the second internal screw will not come out as it appears to have been stripped at the factory. How do you overcome this? Drill it out, and if so, does it have to be replaced?
omg! Thank you so much. I've been trying to fix this from last 6 months. I always knew it is not that big issue just something inside hardware. Thanks a ton!
man, thank you so much for the original vid and this update. TOTALLY saved me all that money I would've thrown out getting this repaired. I've never done a phone repair before and this was intense for me lol . THE SMALLEST SCREWS ON EARTH.
Haha oh I know, first time i did this it was crazy keeping track of all of them. Just be thankful though because this doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone 4 and 4s repair lol
My phone has just started the touch disease. So in the last 24 hours maybe happened 3 times. Is it recommend doing the fix now or might it only happen now and again.
I don't know the first thing about soldering, but I do know that this fix makes sense as pressure applied to that IC chip area gets rid of the problem. It took me 2 hours to take everything apart and pay attention to all the screw locations and mark accordingly, but in the end after putting everything back together (and it didn't power up at first I had to reseat some of the connections again), everything powered up without problems and the grey bar is gone and so is the touch disease issue. I did fold that electrical tape 8 times and then pressed down on that whole area. For those who complain that this is not a true solution, I say it doesn't matter - many people would take a temporary fix over a non-working phone. Further, as I mentioned, not everyone wants to pay Apple or whoever $150 (or higher in Canada) to fix something which is an inherent engineering and manufacturing problem. Further, I do know and have confirmed with Apple store at my local mall, that Apple will just swap it out for a refurbished unit, with only a short warranty. It is very likely you will get another 6S Plus with the same problem eventually and by then you will be encouraged to just upgrade the phone. There are those of us who do not want a 7, 8 or higher (I like plugging in headphones on my 6S Plus, but moreover, there are many of us who would be happy with a short-term fix that may last long term. Again, it beats having a 100% non-working phone. I don't know how to solder and not interested in paying someone else to do something similar or having Apple roll the dice and give me another one which has zero guarantee of not having this problem. I for one am glad for this video and thank Rody for posting it.
My iPhone 6 had the same issue and this trick surprisingly works so well! Though I’ve looked up on the ifixit tutorial for the disassembly since this video is covering the Plus version, the main goal to give the bulge to the mainboard seems the same. I really appreciated your tutorial. Thanks a lot 😊
I went to the Apple Store today and asked about the Touch Disease, and they said it was caused by "flex cable" being bent. I said what about the fact it's the Touch IC failure and they said it is because they phone bends. They said they replace the phone with one that has never been bent at the price of a display replacement (Meaning it will have the issue again). Its sad that they are not even fixing the issue correctly.
I tried the tape trick last night and the phone is worse now. It harly reponds at all and will randomly open stuff with out me touching it. Does anyone have a follow along tear down and installation of all the screws and cables after being taken apart
Rody Davis you're welcome to mail it to me . I will replace the touch IC chips and guarantee a working phone, as long as you have not damaged anything else with this attempt.
I was able to do this fix on my phone with no problem with the tools that I had. However, a recommendation is for the tape, don't make it too thick because when you put everything back together, the screen will not be flushed. Also, the result on my iPhone 6 Plus is not fixed all the way, the touch on the screen comes and goes ( but not as bad after doing the changes with this video). Overall, good video. Thanks.
Rody Davis, thanks for the awesome DIY video. This video was quite helpful and I was able to fix my nephew's friend's iphone 6. Hope to see more awesome DIY videos. Thanks!!!
how long does the tape have to be? I want to make sure I do perfectly the first time. I haven't had my iPhone 6plus in months sense I got this touch disease. PLEASE HELP!!!
try another one. remove the tape and then put every component back to where it should be. Then, on the top right corner, there should be a L shaped metal plate with 5 screws. Unscrew it and place a micro sim card or anything about the same thickness and size then put right in the middle and on top of all those hidden cables so that the hidden cables are pressured enough for your touch screen to work again. Just make sure your screen is off and you powered off your phone the entire time. Try it if you still have your phone :)
The right way to fix this might be with micro soldering, but this hack worked for my iPhone 6 and has for over a week. Since it cost me time and a piece of electrical tape, I'm satisfied.
Have you tried or considered reflowing the solder with a heat gun instead of the tape? Also, is six layers of tape the magic number? There's no problem with the board distorting the LCD?

thanks Rody. it totally work. big thumbs up for you man.
It worked! Thank you so much for posting this. God bless you!
+soguon thank you
Thanks for a Great fix-video!
Thanks brother and yes this does work i have stress tested my phone like crazy and it does work 100%
This is very nice teaching .so value in poor guys . including me
Haven't tried it but don't take the stupidness of people to heart, they're most likely annoyed that you found a way to fix a problem that makes them money, keep doing what ya doin, Great Job!!
IT WORKED!!!!!! YeeeHaawww!! Thanks SO MUCH DUDE!!! 3 weeks of touch disease was sooo annoying. So far so good! I'll keep you updated!
This definitely works. Instead of tape, I cut a piece of a fairly thick rubber band and place it on the chips under that tape. Been working for almost two weeks without one little flicker. Thank you for this video.
took me 10 mins and BOOM....iphone 6 plus is back working 100 percent. Thanks
You Can Fix That after 3 month work fine!?
I did this three weeks ago and my phone has been working perfectly ever since. thank you so much
Hi is it still working please respond
Just completed this work-around on my iPhone 6+, been working perfectly since. Thanks for the video Rody. Will update later if it begins experiencing issues, however I don't have any reason to believe that will occur. For anyone thinking about doing this, do it (order the $12 kit on amazon so you've got the right tools). The hardest part was putting it back together, which just took a bit of time. Also - be sure not to mix up which screws go where, for this I laid everything out on a sheet of graph paper according to its relative position.
Can i use this video to fix my iphone 7 plus with the same problem?
Bro you are genius!!! This worked on my iPhone 6 iOS 12.4.9 Thanks mann. You saved my valuable time and money. Respect
This was a huge help thanks for saving me some money
is your phone still working until now?
I completed your procedure in placing the electrical tape on those 2 chips and reassembled the Iphone, but I'm experiencing some vertical lines when all done, what is your suggestion in checking for?
i used this trick on my iPhone 6+ 128gb because it is such a great phone that i would hate to have it stop working. also this has worked great so far with no problems. thanks for instructing me on how to do this.
It works! Thanks for saving me from giving into Apples scam to get me to buy a 7
This is why you should stick to Android phones for best reliability. Unless you really like the iPhone...
Hi is it still working please respond
Yes, it should. You could also put an old SIM card on top in between the connectors and the metal plate (upper right) and put it back on without taking all the screws and logic board apart.
This works! Aside from adding sim to the flex of the screen. Do i need to reduce the electrical tape that i put in to the ic? There is a huge bump on my screen and it will not fully close the screen
What Is the other tool you used? The 1.5? How can I find it? Is it just called 1.5?
You're sure that this option make the iphone 6 plus good?
i just tried it because it seems logical. its functioning now but will give you an update in a few hours or days. thank you. really appreciate. in the case it happens again tho, i should try using a bigger piece of tape?
Kahlid Lawrence no don't go beyond 10 folds! It will bulge more and could break the mother board!
Great job bro, just did it and I am back up and running, the size of the tape is truly the magic for this fix. Good Job again.
Should I do this repair, although my iPhone doesn't have this problem yet ?
ionut tzu don't do it unless it's necessary! You might end up breaking the phone!
dhairya dand Thanks for the tip.
Do you have this for iphone 5s users ?
This works OMGSH actually thank you we didn't even have the correct tools but my phone is working perfectly now!
Thanks for putting up this video. It worked like a charm!!!
Did this last night and my 6 plus is working perfectly now!! Thank you so much for this!
How did you become iOS certified? I fix iPhones all the time and would love to get certified also
Jesus christ - it actually bloody works. Thanks mate, youve saved me a whole bunch of cash. Kudos
This worked like a charm. Hope it keeps working
Thanks dude, i was suprised it worked. Can't Thank you enough !!!
Works great for me, but I might do it again to do it thicker
Good job on your first video and the second video. Thanks
Thanks you Pedro!
Thank you Rody ! It worked !
Rody!! Thank you soooo much!! Can't believe it totally worked!! Virtual High Five! Fist Bump!!
+Jarett Clark thank you!!!!
Is this still working after 11 months ??
Results??
Thank you Rody! Fixed the problem completely! Saved me from having to buy a soldering iron for the job. You’re a legend!
Sean McCartney Is it still working?
Can you use a small thermal pad? Or does it have to be electrical tape?
Thank you so much!!! I just resurrected my IPhone 6 Plus ! It is back to normal.
Thank you! I haven't used my iPhone 6 plus in 4 years. Found it in a box and decided to see if it was possible to fix the touch disease. Works like a charm! Shame on Apple for the way they handled the touch disease debacle. There's no way they didn't know.
Hi is it still working please respond
@@makaylacrudup8690 Hi. It worked great for the first few days, then it started acting up again, but not as bad as it was. I can usually make it work again for a while by tapping the back of the phone. Since both solutions require taking the phone apart, I would actually recommend doing the soldering fix (found eslewhere on the web) if possible. This one turned out to be unreliable.
@@wesleyjacobreed5056 Oh ok thank you, that sucks apple just wants money
I fold the tape 3 times instead 6. It work like a charm. Thanks bro
+miketong2007 awesome!! Thanks for sharing
Rody Davis i've read those tear downs and i was like omg all that work to change the SCREEN lmao
+NHKxt I know haha
Thanks ! Worked for me!!
Isn't a joke, really work to me! Greeeeat! Thank you so much!
Worked a charm. Was a bit difficult reversing the process but I got it done
Just did this on my iphone 6. Lets see how long this will work. Thank you for the tutorial
Will this work for my iPhone 6?
worked for me brother! thanks for the video.
Still working?
How do you put the screws back in order like everything else????????
Try this. I hope you get your phone working again. www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+6+Plus+Logic+Board+Replacement/29868
Rody Davis you're welcome to mail it to me . I will replace the touch IC chips and guarantee a working phone, as long as you have not damaged anything else with this attempt.
hi, can u help me? i need this fix on my iphone 6 plus
Brandon McNeely do you still do this repairs ? What's the fee
I try but it doesn't work
try another one. remove the tape and then put every component back to where it should be.
Since it cost me time and a piece of electrical tape, I'm satisfied.
hello ive tried this fix no luck will it make a difference if its screw down or not or do I habe to fully put it back together so it works
do I need to purchase these tools or are they typically tools people have lying around?
eBay but once you do, you won't be able to pay apple £146 to properly get it fixed!
Awesome. Don't get the haters. Thanks for the fix.
Hey. Where do you get the toolset to fix this?
Have you tried or considered reflowing the solder with a heat gun instead of the tape? Also, is six layers of tape the magic number? There's no problem with the board distorting the LCD?
