The storytelling, the music, the soundeffects - everything shows you how bad things are really close to the end. Every wrong decision leads to the death of many more citizens and maybe the end of the whole city. Its not 100% realistic, but Frostpunk shows what it takes to run a city through a time when mere existance is nearly impossible for humans anymore.
In the first campaign, hearing that dialogue after dismantling every camp, saving till the last survivor and returning at the last moment, bracing to you stock is the most amazing sensation.
3:44 the percussion and voices are phenomenal. The other parts are outstanding as well, but this part takes what was already a godly song to a whole new level.
That last day before the final storm, everyone stayed home. I passed out wood and steel so everyone could shore up their houses. Some spent the day at the temples praying, others gathered their loved ones around them and huddled in their homes. Midnight came and we held evening prayers. Hope was high and discontent was no where in site. We stayed strong, thanked those that gave their lives so the coal mines could remain open. One day I will build a shrine for those 45 men, engrave their names in a block of coal and place it next to the generator. A fitting reminder for those that survived. As the captain, I don't want to look anymore. They sing, and walk, using improvized body-to-outside sound transports of remarkably low heat loss. I did not go too far, right? Did I? I didn't, right? Matters not. I stand by my final post. Even while a final show of chorus somehow feels it is right to come out and sing in their custom "ball suits". ...literally holding a boiler within one layer of their skin. Yet... Here I am doing the same thing. I have strapped myself to the generator, tearing off the clothing from there and strapping it on my front. I purposefully had my arm removed so I could switch the overdrive, no matter what. My legs too, so that I will stand to do so. My other arm is fine, bundled up with steam pipes. It will be a conduit of heat to my main body, no matter how much it hurts. They hurt more. So I endure. In these final hours. I am their captain! The city must survive! It gets colder, I enter into overdrive. The wind hits my face through 4 layers. My last arm is no good. I put it into the generator itself because burning is less painful, while I continue feather the overdrive valve, watching as steam bursts from small stress seams as the generator struggles. I look in terror... as the aurora of steam turning to ice ceases, and a new aurora starts. I know this, as before Captain, I was an engineer. This final aurora is not water. It is carbon dioxide. The snow that briefly stopped despite the raging wings, and is now starting again... *THE CITY MUST SURVIVE!* I open a port, and tear an auxilary tube out of its normal place. I then tear open my Final Operations Suit. I shove the the flexible steam tube into it. Probably sentencing a dozen to die. But the city must survive. Not them, or I. My chest burns. Or is that just how long it has been since I was warm? My prosthetic operates flawlessly, as I feather the controls desperately to maintain some level of warmth as I face the winds against the overheated skin of our lord Generator. ...Am I losing it? No matter. The City Must. Survive. I didn't lose it yet. Why do I care if the thermal gradient means that even standing next to to the Generator, that one hand will burn and the other freeze?! They gave it their all! I will stand by this post to the end! I will do every damn thing I can! EVEN WHEN NOTHING CAN BE DONE! I WILL STILL TRY! The winds howl? I operate. It must be nice to be an automaton, they don't care. ...No, not yet. I AM THEIR CAPTAIN! I would throw myself into the furnace if I had no further use. And I almost do so. A slight bit of warmth from those ten steps. The furnace its at its limit. I close the doors most of the way with all the strength I still have... Press the lever for timed release...Where am I... Oh... warm... But I need to.... I get out. Warm... saved. Now to just hit the 2 levers. Walk up the stairs. Pull one. Pull Two. Again, they start to sing. How? How can they come out to sing? The atmosphere is condensing! I gave them some warmer zones but really? It is so cold... They have stopped singing. It is light... Huh? They are still singing? Why can't I hear anything? ...I see. I did it. I saved them... right? There is no more storm. I see the sun. Truly, beautiful. I know my body can't survive any longer. I... did okay, right? The city survived. Just don't make me a martyr. Any of... us.... would ha...ve..... made.... t..h.e.......same...... so.rt....of...... cho...ic.....-

Watched this like a million times seriously. I actually really like the clothing choices to. You guys look dressed down, not alot of make-up, rough gotee's etc. Not sure if that was intentional, but it makes it feel more human. It's subtle - your not beating us over the head with post-apocalyptic steampunk themes, but the simple unfinished look sells it quite a bit. This is what coal miners would look like, if yesterday they were college students and pressed into service to save a dying city. I'm not sure why this channel doesn't have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. You guys need to do more like this, your really onto something here.
