F1 race is not an endurance race, actually in endurance race they are pushing even more than in actual F1 race.
F1 is push to the limit everything, driver, tyres, engine for the WHOLE race, not only few laps.
These cars still have race lap records with non-slicks, no DRS, o battery... Now every kid can jump in a F1 and perform during the race, in the past they were destroied in few laps, the same for old drivers...

This might be an unpopular opinion, but the old F1 we knew and loved died when Liberty Media took over. The only good thing they’ve done to the sport is grow the fanbase by adapting to the social media age, something Bernie Ecclestone was fervently against. Other than that, all they’ve done is leave classic venues like Hockenheim and Sepang and move their race dates to the Middle East and the US, not to mention classics like Spa and Monza are under threat. The cars are too heavy, too wide, and too long, unlike the cars in this video. And of course, the sounds. My gosh, the things I’d do just to have these cars and these engines back.
I’m still a loyal F1 fan and I still continue to enjoy it but there was a special charm about this era that we may never see again.

I’ll agree with some of this as the current cars are too complicated, big, and heavy, but you have to understand that the world is vastly different place than it was 20 years ago. I’m simplifying, but leagues always want to expand their fan base to help pay for everything/make money and being Euro centered is not the way to do that, not when there are new fans and money to be made in Americas/Middle East/Asia and the races they have there can be great or bad like any Euro circuit. Plus they’ve added Zandvoort, a great circuit, and the middle of season is still Europe, cept for Canada.
I’m not sure what exactly you are upset with when you mention show business as race weekends work like they always used to, except for the vastly increased safety measures. I’m annoyed as any older fan when a session is red flagged for a car being stuck in gravel when can just be smart about it and crane it out. Though I DVR everything and fast forward so not really a big deal. Other than that, race weekends work the way they always used to but it’s much easier to watch from anywhere in the world and we can even choose to watch the race from onboard any car.
By far the most important thing for F1, or any sport, is whether it is exciting and competitive and we don’t know who will win before the season starts. And I started this season totally disinterested since I thought Max would win every race, thankfully by Miami we saw McLaren and then Ferrari and even Mercedes go forward and Red Bull back a little and 2024 got much better where I had no idea who would win each race. I remember plenty of boring races in early 2000s where Montoya would qualify on pole and then Michael would pass him by lap 5 and drive off into the distance. 2002 and 2004 were terrible, totally boring IMO, and I could barely watch and they had amazing NA V10s, so you get my point.
Anyway, for me the most important thing is we should make an effort to not just think everything old is great and anything new is bad before giving it a chance. If you watched races this year and didnt enjoy them and don’t want to watch anymore well that’s your choice. For me F1 is absolutely always about whether there is good racing. Ideally, any team should be able to win but that’ll never happen so we need at least two and three is much better.
I went on too long so if anyone read it all thank you 🙂

Need more flybys in race like these from the early 2000s where they zoom out instead of in to give you sense of speed that the normal broadcast angles dont give anymore. They've started it a bit more but when Liberty took over the angles were too ultra zoomed in and gave no sense of speed, like one would see in person at the track is 100x more intense. Especially 2000'ish corner shot angles showing directional changes, they still don't capture like the old broacasts did by keeping the shot on as the cars would hit 3-4gs and disapear around the corner.

You can watch this season from F1 TV but only with the original 768x576p quality. I haven't upscaled any full races because upscaling is very time consuming.

These onboards are so much better at showing you just how frighteningly fast these cars are. Todays onboard camera shots are almost too smooth or too zoomed out.

I got the data from an rFactor mod called "CTDP F1 2006". It is a pretty accurate mod.
According to that mod the rev limit of MP4-21 during Canadian GP was 19700 rpm and I trust that info more than those TV graphics because sometimes they were noticeably inaccurate. See this example: th-cam.com/video/CD5RtpLiUB0/w-d-xo.html

T-Cams in the pre-widesreen era had a higher field of view compared to today's T-Cams. The higher field of view causes an illusion of faster moving cars.

Mclaren team working on engine for the car from February and improving it through season in defined tracks. And guess what ? they arrived in Villeneuve, Canada same gap in high speed corners compared to Renault and Ferrari's 😮 no seconds gained with all that budget planned solely for the engine. Strange January and February months 😮

From 1997 to 2005 we had very special fast cars! Really good drivers, similar to the late 80s with senna, Prost and Mansell. Now F1 is dead. RIP.

I never liked that POV sound. I always thought it sounds weird. In the early 90s, sound capture was at least more interesting, but this image is better. They could have combined the best of both.

Most likely he was trail braking but the graphics didn't show that because they acted like a brake light of a road car; either braking or not.
