Wow, the tip about moving the head strap, in order to cup the back of your head, was such a great tip. This never occurred to me and I was always using the Quest with the back strap half way up the back of my head, lol.
Here’s something you can use that you can find anywhere: Dumbbells. Just duct tape it to the straps and bam! Not only is the headset more balanced, you gradually gain neck strength when you use it!
Amen, they definitely cut corners to keep the price down. Saying that, you should be able to make a counterweight with things you have lying around, which helps the comfort a lot. Still not perfect!
I have the FrankenQuest setup with the deluxe audio strap, which makes a big difference. Not an official solution, but works well and much easier to adjust person to person. Only took about 15 min to install with good TH-cam videos to explain it well.

I have been looking for a comfort strap or complete replacement made especially for the quest but the thing is I don't want to risk damaging or scratching the paint off of it. On top of that I have a huge head and it barely fits as is so I can't get that vr cover back head strap. I am in quite the predicament.
I really searched for an Option like this :D all i found until now was the Vive audio strap and thats so expensive :s so i really thank you for this and i will try it :)
This should have been perfected at r&d stage, instead of consumers having to fork out more money so they can wear it for longer periods. I have used the quest and it is very uncomfortable for anything longer than 20 mins on my face.
finally someone with some sense. my thoughts exactly. i refuse to fork out extra cash just in order to make it comfy, when they should have balanced the HMD better from the beginning. it's the main reason why i returned my Quest. hoping gen2 is going to be better.
So this video told me about some good accessories to remove all that front weight but if u had a larger budget u could actually get a GoQuestVR Halo strap if u liked the PSVR or Rift S comfort. they only cost £10 more if u want built in headphones with it!
"You'll know if you're wearing it right if the picture is clear and the headset is pressing on your face lightly" she said. Sounds like the official Oculus tutorial I heard for the Rift S and the Quest a million times already because how much I desperate I am
So, I made what some people are calling the "frankenquest." I bought the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and installed it. It is more comfortable, but I do have a very small head. So, the front is still sliding down after 20 minutes of gaming or general use. I think I'll have to buy the top strap and counter weight strap next. I do not remember my Rift headset being this uncomfortable. I was able to do my beat saber and BoxxVR gaming for hours. Now, my teeth hurt and head hurts after just a few minutes of gaming. It's such a same because there are so many games I'd like to play on my Quest. Thank you for this video. I will try the top strap and counter-balance straps. Thank you again for great and informative content.
I just ordered the counter-weight wrap so I hope you get some benefit from my order. Obviously I had no idea that such a thing existed, so thank you very much. I enjoyed your wonderful presentation. Please keep up the good work.
I actually changed the foam face interface for a silicon one, and that made a world of difference for my cheek bones 😊 Now I can play Elite Dangerous for more than 45 minutes straight! This is the one I got: vrconceptstore.com/products/oculus-quest-comfort-silicone-controllers-sleeves-mask-cover
I got my Quest a couple days ago. Almost immediately I noticed how it dug into my cheek bones when I tightened it. All I did was bend the foam out at my cheeks so that the surface lays flatter against my face, and that helped. They should have made a plastic head harness instead of leaving it to those soft straps.
i dont mind the weight on my face anymore really, what DOES REALLY bug me is the straps just murdering the back of your head after a couple hours of vrchat
I like to wear my headset tight as HELL so it doesn't wiggle around as I'm playing, it isn't the most comfortable, but it makes me confident. Yep, that's why I have these weird marks on my face that don't want to go away unless I don't play for like half a week. Also, my head is too damn big for the Quest to cradle the lower back of my head, so it's actually more comfortable for it to stay in the middle of the back of my head not really cradling anything, otherwise the strap wouldn't take any weight from the HMD off my face.
@rem brandt hahaha same here. You need to adjust the TOP strap correctly to get your head to fit. It was falling off the back of my head at first. So much better now
I usually consider my head to be a bit big as well. If you can swing it, buy the Vive DAS and 3D print the Frankenquest kit or buy it off Etsy. That thing isn't going anywhere and there is zero front heaviness. At all. It's a complete game changer that is lightyears more comfortable than adding a bunch of top straps, pads and a bunch of weights to the back of the thing like you're trying to balance scales. It's stiff and actually cups the bottom of the back of your head. You twist the back crank and it tighten the entire thing to the point it isn't going anywhere even in a motorcycle crash. It's like wearing a bicycle helmet instead of a brick sewn onto a belt.
For the back counterweight, I just have a 3d Printed clip that fits on with no issue and lets me use the battery bank for added playtime. Shame to see the VR Cover back piece doesn't work as hot. I was actually interested in it, but was conflicted due to my battery bank addon.
I love your videos usually but I think you should have included the frankenquest in this video. It's extremely popular and everyone is wondering about how it compares to cheaper options.
Just ordered the back counter-weight strap today. I hope it helps, I can't really wear my Quest for much more than 30 minutes before the discomfort becomes intolerable.
Is there one of those back foam things for the Rift? 'Cause after playing for a while on my Rift, the back of my head starts feeling really uncomfortable.
With the announcement of Quest link, or as I like to think of it the Rift Q, comfort is going to be an even bigger issue. Another good informative video by the way.
I wear my quest right but if I don’t tighten the sides, the front still slides down because it is heavy. Because of that I always get red marks on both cheeks. 😔 What I need is a counterweight I think.
I'm guessing the VRCover back pad wouldn't fit with the counter weight wrap? Having a hard time deciding because I definitely would like more comfort on the back of my head but also intrigued about adding the counterweight with an external battery (to also run the VR and Chill).
Thanks for the instruction. I have a flat back to my head so there is no way for it to wrap around the back of my head. However, I readjusted per your instructions and it fits much better now. I’m looking into a better strap. The Halo strap doesn’t look too comfortable so I may look into one that wraps more to the sides of my head - wrap around in it’s entirety.
I found reinforcing the back with some Cable Ties (Fabric ones not Zip Ties) To help support the front heavyness, Not Perfect but it does remove well, the Uncomfortable-edge I'm experimenting with a few other designs to see if it works or not but eh honestly I'm happy with what I've done lol.
I have a a silicone cover for the front and it makes it a lot more comfortable. It uses the stock facial interface but it makes it not dig into your face so bad. Also an added bonus, sweat no longer absorbs into the face pad. I recently bought a vr cover facial interface and it's less comfortable than the stock interface with the silicone cover. It also leaks light much more. The nose cover for the vr cover isnt that good (I have a small nose) I recently ordered the rear pad from vr cover. I've been looking for a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap but they're discontinued and I'm not going to pay $200 for a strap. I've seriously thought about spending that much but at that point I might as well just get a Valve Index, which I will, eventually Thanks for the upload!!
I was between the VRCover thingy and the Studioform Kit. Finally I got the Studioform kit with a discount. I hope it is good enough. My head is really small, and it hurts a lot when I play. I'm pretty sure the front heaviness has a lot to do with it, so I preferred the Studioform kit
@@CasandChary how does the it compare to the top strap and counter weights? I'm very curious. I really wish the halo strap for the quest was better. I would buy it instantly if it was. Though I do hear a revised version is coming soon.
Have you tried the Frankenquest mod yet? I think that's the most comfortable i've got my quest so far, but just ordered the halo strap one but haven't got to try it out yet.
I'm hoping Oculus releases an official hard strap like HTC's Deluxe Audio Strap. I've already removed the stock strap before so I know how easy it is to do and that it's possible for Oculus to do as well.
there is a good reason why people pay 1000 dollars instead of 500 for a htc vive instead of an oculus for an oculus you dont need a pc but your gonna need to endure the pain it gives you but with a HTC its comfortable as hell i could play 15 hours straight on it and i still wouldnt feel a thing but of cource the headset alone costs over a thousand dollars and you need a pc so in the end you'l be paying like 3000 dollars for a pc and headset so umm yeah but of cource comfort is very important for a headset i hope oculus does something about this i get the reason its so heavy cuz the headset itself is an entire computer but like i mean
If the Quest had the build style of the PSVR it would be unstopable. I just got a Quest after 4 years of PSVR and I can't believe how uncomfortable it is - the 'visor' style of the PSVR is a million times better than the 'clamp' style of the Quest. I've literally logged about 500 hours on the PSVR without one second of feeling like it was heavy or uncomfortable. After 30 mins in the Quest I'm frustrated that it isn't more comfortable. (Hence searching for this video).
Maybe because the Rift has all the computing done on an actual computer, and the Quest packs it all into the headset so you don't have to be tethered by a wire or cable?
Front heaviness is no problem for me. What IS a problem is sweat and condensation. I wear glasses, and I've had tons of occasions where I'll take it off and have a layer of condensation on my lenses, like the outside of a cold water bottle. Another problem is sweat collecting on the foam. I have...no idea how to clean it, and I'm pretty sure there's enough biomass in it to kick start an agrarian society.
This video should begin and end with the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap or DAS for short. There are plenty of instructions available online showing exactly how to install the "Frankenquest" mod, as well as premade kits that make the entire setup intuitive and easy. Most importantly, it puts all the options in this video to shame. On a comfort scale of 1 to 10, a stock quest is a 2 or 3. With the mods in this video it is at best a 5 or 6. I know because I've bought and tried them. The DAS is a 10. The Quest literally can not be more comfortable short of completely removing the guts, doing some resoldering and cable extensions and making a new mold yourself, and even then the difference would be marginal. There is zero front heaviness with the Vive DAS Frankenquest mod. Instead of feeling like something you have to adjust every 15 minutes to half hour or even after an hour of playtime, with the DAS you will *never* feel the urge to adjust the thing due to weight distribution. It does way better than trying to adjust the flexible stock strap around the back of your head. The DAS "strap" is hard plastic that actually does securely cradle the bottom of the back of your head with a crank at the back that lets you securely tighten (or loosen to remove) off the back of your head. Unlike all the other options that feel like you're actively trying to balance items on the top of your head, it just feels like wearing a bicycle helmet. There is no downward pressure on the front of your face and there is no feeling like you need to "come up for air." Aside from the eyestrain you could legit wear the thing all day and not even notice aside from trying to eat or sleep. The price is steep but the value is 100x what the $40 of well-intentioned-but-ultimately-still snakeoil above is worth. There is no substitute here. There is only the Frankenquest.
the only game worth playing in VR right on on the quest are the DrBeef Mods like half-life and quake... and Vankrupt's Pavlov... not only are they showing up the big devs, but they are doing it for free... shameful lmao, espire 1 is alright though kinda seems broken that it would be a single-player only experience
I hate the foam that they use on the facepad. It feels like gritty sandpaper after 30 min of use lol. I personally am looking into a nicer foam material and hopefully something to block out the light around the nose
The top strap works great for most people. You need to pull the back strap down further and add small weights to the back strap like the instructions tell you
@@davo01BKK mine came with no instructions. Tried it in every position, it just pulls the oculus strap off the back of my head. I thought of weights, but this whole thing needs to work without feeling like you have a bowling ball stuck on your head.

I JUST CREATE AN OCULUS HELMET FROM A BATMAN MASC... SUPPORT & FLEXIBILITY. BOOM 💥
Cost 99p
the only game worth playing in VR right on on the quest are the DrBeef Mods like half-life and quake... and Vankrupt's Pavlov... not only are they showing up the big devs, but they are doing it for free... shameful lmao, espire 1 is alright though kinda seems broken that it would be a single-player only experience
anybody else trying to find a diy top strap reddit thread?
Are you guys nederlands
Yes!
I hate the foam that they use on the facepad. It feels like gritty sandpaper after 30 min of use lol. I personally am looking into a nicer foam material and hopefully something to block out the light around the nose
I just use a gel icepack that isn’t cold.
1000 subscribers with no life challenge how do you strap it on? I want to try that
Sugar Bum I have an icepack/sleeping mask so it’s an icepack with a velcro strap on the back so I just use that
the quest hurts the back of my head not the front
way one :
get the valve index
:)
i got two different quest adds
most of the time uncomfort feeling from my face. T_T
I need a mod that allows me to wear it without messing up my hair
For a counter weight I just put a pad lock on the back of my headstrap
I've tried the strap over the top of the head. Terrible, it actually pulls the headset off the back of your head and actually makes the problem worse.
@@booshting3520 When did you buy it? Was it when Quest launched?
@@davo01BKK bought it a couple of months ago. I only noticed it made the problem worse when I went back to fiddling with the standard strap and found it a bit better.
I'm going to go for the $4 one on ebay. Looks about the same and if it doesn't work then at least i haven't thrown away $20.
Minute 1:05 What game is that and where can I get it in the game store???? Your such a cute anime girl!!!
I think that's VR Chat.
It’s vr chat and it’s free on the oculus store
The back of my head goes numb
Didn't see this video coming.
How so? :-)
Oh my god...I was watching an ad about a product to balance the weight for the oculus quest and I thought I was watching your video...

Ladies (or whatevers) put your hair in a low pony tail or bun. Strap will be underneath.
