    Thank you for the tips I tried to remove a gmc Sierra tailgate off but I did not know it damn near has to be closed to get the driver side off.

    My husband and grandson had a difficult time removing the tailgate from our 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 so we could put our slide in camper on. Everything went fine as in video- disconnecting the camera, sliding off the passenger side- until they got to taking off the driver's side of tailgate. They tried lifting and rocking and pulling but it would not budge. Had to reconnect the camera electronics underneath when they latched the driver side of tailgate and couldn't get it open-twice. He finally went underneath and reluctantly used a tool to pry the driver's side and eventually it gave. If you are having trouble, persevere.

    WHEN YOU REINSTALL! Today i did it by myself and wrestled the thing on, i didnt put the plug back through the hole it came out of. Once i realized i had done this i thought ok, Rather than wrestle it again by myself i will just close it and drive over to a buddies. Ya know just a quick hand getting it back off so i could put the plug through the hole and then easily put it back on. The problem was i had closed the tailgate now. You can not open it unless its plugged into power. That i know of at this point. So the plug is sitting in the bed of the truck, with the gate closed. I am gonn have to pop into the dealer to see if they can get it open manually so i can plug it back in. Stupid mistake but it was actually really easy to make. Make sure you put that plug BACK through the hole before you put the tail gate on and close it. My ram didnt matter you could put the tailgate on and drop the plug between the bed and tailgate with it open at a 45 degree angle. Not the case with this..

    Lessons from my 2020 3500HD tailgate R&R adventure, decrease your "pucker factor" and do the removal and reinstall with a helper. During reinstall, while holding the tailgate nearly vertical attaching the driver side hinge, do not accidently close the driver side latch. If that happens your helper will be able to hold the unsecured tailgate while you crawl under the truck the reconnect the power harness so the you can press the switch releasing the powered tailgate latch. At that point you can you can resume installation. I did not have a helper that day. Fortunately I did not drop the tailgate.

    Put KY Jelly in that connector. It won't do anything for the corrosion but if you're ever out strolling the local truck stop lots and happen to be out you can just pop that open and grab a handful to make things go a bit smoother.

    Great video man thank you, I had to take my salter off and reconnect my gate recently, it’s not opening so I think I have to make sure I put that red switch all the way back down to “lock it” then use grey bar. Wish me luck 🍀

  • @miker794
    @miker794 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey. Thanks for video.
    You talked about corrosion and wondering if you have a need to cover the underside plug as you are driving around so it does not get the fine sand grit into it.
    Maybe a dummy plug so keep things clean.

    I wish they would go back to the standard hinge slots of the old trucks. I know why they did it to cut down on theft and the tail gate potentially falling or pulling of but it is a royal pain.

    • @Theplowman
      @Theplowman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have it nearly vertical like I said in the video? You can’t have it at a 45° when you go to slide it in it Hass to be nearly vertical

    • @Theplowman

      Also I think there’s a nylon shim that hole on your tailgate make sure I didn’t twist

    • @kflo6739
      @kflo6739 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for tip, I’ve tried standing in back of truck to hold vertically and it just won’t go in place. It popped out of place when I was closing it and my load was not all the way back. So I went to shut it and that corner popped out. It will close and latch just that is not flush on passenger side. The drivers side never came out … even greased it thinking it would help pop back in the space.. nope .. didn’t work. We tried lining it up a s tapping top of tailgate with a rubber mallet and still can’t get it to pop back down. I reallllllly don’t want to take it to dealer , but it’s looking like I have no choice. Thanks again for responding and offering advice.
