    Many thanks for these instructions Jason. As I'm in a VERY restricted HOA in Zürich, Switzerland, these instructions were more than helpful to help complete setting up my remote ultra portable modular amateur radio station. SSB was one aspect of it that was missing.
    I can now even take this into the field and I don't even have to open up the radio to operate it. Many thanks!

    It worked-so cool! It even works via my open vpn connection. You may have covered this and I missed it somewhere but if the iPhone app doesn’t have the “lips” on the bottom, the iPhone app preferences->transmission has to be set to “push-to-talk”. Beautiful work Jason! Slow down on on the ideas....I haven’t seen my family in weeks!

      Good to know about the push to talk setting. I don't remember changing that on my iPhone but may have early on and forgot to mention it. I'll usually run through and install half a dozen times prior to filming just to make sure I don't miss anything and yet I can miss those small details occasionally. Glad you have it working!! 73, de KM4ACK

    Great project. Just finished Jason, but I think you left one step out on the iPhone. When I installed the app on my iPhone and used it, I didn't have the big lips (PTT). It was truly operating as VOX! Then I found under Preferences in the app, then under Transmission to choose Voice Activated, Push-to-talk and Continuous. I selected Push-to-talk and it works like you had yours setup. But the Voice Activated worked as well, but the sensitivity seemed really hot, the iPhone really picks up sounds and will trip the vox on the SignaLink. Just wanted to let you know it is working. 73 Juddie WD8WV

    I just did a fresh install of Buster and Build-a-Pi over the weekend, and I found that I did not need to include the "--fix-missing" with either the server or client installs.

    Thank you very much. Anything not dependent on the grid excites me greatly. grid-down comms and data is most valuable. Now if I can just get flightaware to be used offline. Not fond of having to be connected to the net to use it.

    • @lasantiagoa
      @lasantiagoa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use flightaware offline. Once you install everything, you can then use a local client to visualize ADSB data in your browser thought either the RPi via VNC or via a browser in your local network.

    Internet? internet? Whats an Int-er-net?? A *real* Ham asks - j/k. (BTW I am Keith your new Patreon supporter) Anyway, thanks fr the info - I am trying to work out how ALSA/Pulse work - according to the specs it is possible to do multipoint RTP sound streaming, and I was thinking of a "multicast" server so others could listen into the shack from the local shack network (for FD etc not necessarily for whole world use but will see). I want to use Bluetooth for a speaker which I had going, however, something in the "build a pie" mangles it from the Buster down load. When I get it going will pass long what I learned to everyone. I finally figured out a mode on my router that allows my pi to communicate with my iphone. Mumble worked when I reinstalled it. Next problem: crosstalk. Receive audio appears to be getting into the transmit audio so running in VOX is impossible. Solution??

  • @oncomics1128
    @oncomics1128 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did anyone accomplish this with IC7100? I am not getting audio to/from the radio afaik

  • @billbrown3414

    Went through this several times only to find that my wireless router (ATT NVG589) conveniently? isolates the wireless and wired lans. My raspberry cannot ping any other network device on the wireless lan or the wired lan if connected wirelessly. So unless I find a wireless router that I can plug into wired lan on the nvg589, I'm dead in the water. (This also screws up linking the pi, desktop, laptop and tablets. Crap!)

    thanks for this very nice video. One question:
    Why do you need to have a client set up on the RPi?
    Tnx de Arnie W8DU

    • @SummitBidTech
      @SummitBidTech 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@arniep740 I’m wondering the same thing since the main idea is remote operation.
      I can only assume it’s because the mumble client in the rigpi is used to configure the server. For example setting the audio to continuous seems necessary to get remote clients to be able to receive.

  • @SummitBidTech
    @SummitBidTech 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    So close! Why did you stop after showing the client settup on the iphone and not actually demonstrate transmit and receive?? Isn't that the point of getting this all to work?
    It appears that I have a different version of the mumble client on my iphone because I managed to get receive working, but I still can't transmit. My iphone client does not have the lips icon on my client like yours so had no control to push.
    Anyway, this video helped me somewhat. Thanks.

      I see the PTT setting now which puts the lips icon on the UI. HA! Just made a qso with a few guys on 20meters. However I have to key the receiver using the RigPi Web UI which is awkward. Getting there! Thanks.

    I have not seen a rigpi in person, but it seems to me, whatever it does can be accomplished with any Rpi and the right software?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      absolutely! With this and a VNC connection to use FLRIG to control the radio, you should be set. The rigpi just has a prettier interface and is almost ready to go out of the box. If I am not mistaken, MFJ uses mumble server on the rigpi.
