You can get larger 3d models of all the BSG ships to print online. Cost a fraction of that model to make. I've been making models on mine for years, some so large I can barely lift them 😂.
worse, it makes the model defective with those three holes, after all this collectors' model. though I'm happy with the seven models from the original show.
Besides no landing gear, it always bugged me that the cockpit canopy has no rivets. That seems like a glaring oversight in what is otherwise an impeccably detailed model...
BSG vs Star Wars pricing is way off the charts. This must be one popular niche, because I never see low or sale prices. I got a ton of original trilogy Star Wars stuff for a song. I kind of prefer the reboot show, but when it comes to tech I prefer original BSG space tech. Just way cooler looking in every respect.
All in all, Eaglemoss did a pretty good job with the BSG line. I would have liked a classic shuttle, and a Colonial Movers ship, but we got a number of good ships before they went bankrupt.
That's a shame that happened the bean counters struck again when it comes to models I prefer the classics I just got the classic cylon base star that revel monogram did years back it will look good put together or I may leave it in the box it's all there but it has been opened great video and have a galactica day too👍👍
I have the Galactica model that I purchased at a hobby shop and "lost" until 3 years ago when I found it in storage. I managed to finish it but it could really use a paint wash to enhance the look. I have seen the kits available on Amazon and ebay still.
If you want to dig up some obscure Battlstar Galactica collectibles, google ceramic cylon raider and ceramic galactica viper. There were commercially produced plaster molds to slip cast ceramic Vipers and Raiders. There was also a rock base to set them on at a jaunty upward angle. There was a raised rectangle on top of the rock base with a depressed center. When still wet and soft a hole was to be cut to later install a clip in socket for a candelabra light bulb. By casting the ships thin enough and not painting them too opaque after firing the dried greenware clay to bisque, they'd work as night lights. In the 1980's I had a a Viper one of these with the rock base. It was bought at a ceramics show and I painted it in silver with red accents. I never liked it too well because it was cast far too thick and had stupid lightning bolt cutouts on the nose to let light out. Some areas around the engine details had also been cut out and they were decently done. But the lightning bolt cutouts were its downfall. The nose got broken off. I tried to glue it but no glue would hold and I'm sure it was eventually thrown away. My family had a ceramics business from the late 1960's to the early 1980's and was one of the largest producers of greenware and bisque items in the pacific northwest. We had several hundred molds. I grew up in the business so I knew what quality ceramic casting was, and the Viper casting my parents bought me was far from it. I've no idea which of the many mold companies at the time made the molds. There's been a lot of going out of business and consolidation in plaster ceramics molds since the 1980's as the popularity of the hobby fell off from its 1970's peak. Alberta's, Atlantic, Arnel's, Byron, Duncan were some of the big names. Perhaps countrysideceramics might know who made the Viper and Raider molds. If you can track down who made the molds, and especially if you can find someone who owns a set and does slip casting, I think it would be a great subject for a video.
Wow! Thank you for all of that incredible information! I’ve never seen anything BSG ceramic related. Makes a lot of sense as I do remember going to a birthday party at a ceramic studio. They had shelves of animals that you could pick from. I wish they had a Viper!!
I’ve been a BSG fan since the original series. I never pictured the Cylons as in any way being described or associated with the word “jaunty”. (Maybe TOS’s version of Starbuck, but never the Cylons!) Perhaps this could be a spinoff series? Like “Star Trek-Lower Decks” kind of show! They could call it “Those Jaunty Cylons in their Raider Machines”!
I don't have the Eaglemoss and have never held it in hand. But the position of that red panel on the bottom seems weird to me. Panels like that were to hide the access points for the support rods used during filming. The Viper due to it's narrow shape had fewer ports than most effects models. The center panel between the engines covered one port. The front port was simply inside the front intake on the nose. And there was one on the bottom. There might have been one on the right side between the engines as well. Covered by that side greebly panel. But that multi access hardpoint. The welded gizmo was between the engines. I don't think the model could have been supported by a point as far forward as that panel was. Also I think the best selling Viper of all time was the original MPC Model kit. WHich remained in production for a surprisingly long time.
I don’t know how big or heavy the models were, or if they used multiple sizes. I think it’s funny that Star Trek “hid” an attachment point in plain sight by having it be a circular hole on the bottom…for warp core ejection. Not a coincidence that those two points would be one, either. The core location was chosen carefully, just as the mounting rod location is.
Point of order: that’s Monogram model kit. 😁 Also, shouldn’t there be those rails on the underside that were for the launch catapult? They have to sit in a manner that let the ship slide along, right?
Interesting, I purchased the 'Blood and Chrome' variants and am happy with the models and stands but wondered about how they decided on the plastic supports and stands. Since Eaglemoss is now gone maybe their products will appreciate in value.
Interesting. I only have the Monogram Viper that I bought & glued together in 1979 in my early teens & I still have it to this day, gathering dust on a high shelf along with some other scale models I also did during that time (e.g. Buck Rogers Starfighter, Radeen Shogun, USS Nimitz carrier, etc). Of course, the area at the front landing gear is where the button is to pop out the photon torpedo, but the rubber band inside had since long dried out, probably by the mid 1980s or earlier & there is no way to replace it unless I carefully split the hull at the glue points & I am probably not about to do that. I had also saved the box & the instructions for it & the other models mentioned. I wish I had also bought the Raider & the Galactica, but I think money was an issue & I really have no necessity to acquire them today after all this time has passed. Today, unfortunately, scale models are far more expensive now, yikes. I then transitioned to CAD by the late 1990's to look at scale modelwork & it is much cheaper, heh. 11/13/24
I had the Viper as well and for some strange reason painted it black! No idea what I was thinking! I forgot about the missile firing feature. That was dropped in latter issues because of safety concerns.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 ... Wasn't there a black Viper in the original series, maybe for recon? You probably wanted to make it look sleeker, like a black shiny musclecar, heh. But there was indeed a Viper-looking black ship (but it wasn't a Viper) in the 2003 reimagined series, the Blackbird "Laura", made from scratch Viper & other parts, indeed meant for stealth. And of course it was an homage to the real SR-71. I actually painted my Viper white at one point in 1979 but it was washable paint, so I eventually rinsed it off after a year or so, iirc. I think it was because the Viper models on TV looked white in certain scenes, probably due to film color saturation & stage/model lighting. 11/13/24
It's the only one I _don't_ have. But I'll get around to it… I've got a really nice display, at Cherrywood China cabinet my wife found at an estate sale where I've got both Mercury Galacticas & the vipers. I'll get around to getting Pegasus & Osiris along with the Mk I.
And unfortunately, ego Moss is no longer a company. It doesn’t exist anymore. They went out of business because they couldn’t keep up with the demand. Pissed off a lot of people too. I think there’s a new company. I can’t remember the name of it. That is trying to fill their shoes.
The night before they went into administration I was about to place an order for five Trek ships but I got sidetracked and decided I'd just do it the next morning. The next morning the website had that "Eaglemoss has gone into adminitration" message. I never would have gotten my money back.
I'm pretty sure someone could do a 3D printer mock-up for these without too much trouble. Or sell an after-market version. I'd bet my cat someone has already added landing gear to an Eaglemoss model.
I always thought it was for landing gear. It would have been great if they had filled in those notches. I was lucky enough to get one for less than $30.00 from an ebay seller. As much as I love the Galactica itself, the Viper is my favorite from this collection. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the shuttle.
I never even looked at the bottom of mine. I just put on the stand and left it. But now I thinking that it would look wicked if it had the landing gear instead. I never got the booklet with mine though.
I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to 3d print a gear set for the Viper. Dimension it for a relatively tight fit so there's less filing/fitting, and detail it as able to. Then put the printing files on a free site for distribution.

Eaglemoss made a similar error with their Rocinante from ‘The Expanse’. They went to the trouble of adding a railgun to the model but not the landing legs which I thought was weird because in-story the Rocinante had the landing struts and railgun fitted at the same time in the same place. Seemed like a wasted opportunity to me but then again the company was all over the place in the run up to their bankruptcy. It was a great shame, as they made a lot of good models for us collectors.
@ grrrrrrr Do you know when Brian Singer was in charge of the potential Battlestar Galactica revival at sci-fi, they were well into preproduction when he left the project. They had built two almost complete viper props. Those got sent to the junkyard too when RDM took over.
Watched THE YOUNG LORDS episode last night. I think Saturday will be my STAR day and Sunday Night will be Movie night...so Saturday: BSG, Star Trek, Star Gate SG-1 or Starman, about 2-3 episodes. SATuRday has the letters for STAR
I don't recall the Mk. Ii or the chunkier Viper from Blood and Chrome having landing gear. Same for the Raiders. I figured Eagle Moss just doesn't do landind gear but will send you Star Trek ships with nacelles that aren't aligned with each other or the ship.
@battlestarcollectica7106 even my first large Defiant had a floppy nose. At least the Pegasus and Galactica were okay enough that I bought back ups which turned out to be fortunate.
I do not have an Eaglemoss Viper, I have plenty of others. That is a strange thing not including the landing gear. I'm used to these guys including so many extra parts. It's good being an adult collector and not a kid playing with this stuff. Landing gear, lands in the carpet, forgotten, gets vacuumed up by my grandmother. I have to sell it at a loss 40 years later, incomplete but original box included. Perhaps someone at Eaglemoss thought they might be doing somebody a favor. I'm joking of course.
Very disturbing, and interesting. At least, there's now a path forward, as 3D printing third parties will have a way to make landing gear which would fit that model for those who want the landing gear, now. Thanks for sharing. :)
Interesting. Rather a large section missing for plug in landing gear. There is something else BSG related you may want to look into. I believe that one of the early cgi animators for Babylon 5 must have been a big BSG fan. The B5 episode Signs and Portents includes a shot that is identical on one of BSG's frequently reused shots of the Galactica's blaster implements tracing after a cylon raider. It's too close to be chance.
That’s B/S I personally would have preferred the landing gear and I bet that I’m not the only one who would have loved having the landing gear included instead of a B/S excuse.
the engines look like molded clay. what were the original planned landing gears, super glue some legs to it. should have been retractable. i prefer macross valkyries
Hmmm, originally had a landing gear, huh? That is interesting. And Eagle had a dispute with the china company about the poor manufacturing? Yeah, cool tid bit I'd say. Thnx for the vid
I had problems with some of the DC items they produced, like Batmobiles that didn't look as they were supposed to (the '70s car) or badly sculpted figurines. Was never able to afford the Galactica or Trek stuff. I gave up on the company.
This is probably just one reason why eaglemoss went bankrupt. Failure to follow through. And customers don’t want to own products that are not as advertised or promised.
yes but what about where the Turbine Motorcycles went? LOL JK... BG1980 stuff not withstanding. I'm sure someone could produce a 3d printer mold for fitting in those slots to get the landing gear for those. Bet they would turn a tiny profit doing it too...
The model is s nice piece even on the stand. It is surprising landing gear wasn't included not even a pilot. Fortunately i have a model same size from Round 2 models that does include landing gear and the pilot. I'm sure its still around as is the Cylon Raider. Alternatively there is slso the Viper that has just a stand no clear cockpit canopy and no cockpit just a solid canopy. Thanks for sharing that information about that pre built model. I know what to expect should i come across it. Good for display purposes. A pilot would not have been a miss.🤫✌️🇭🇲🦘
@battlestarcollectica7106 The Viper you have is still quite nice. I hope I can build my model as good. I also have the remake series two variant Vipers although I wasn't in the remake series very much. But the Vipers are ok. The original better of course.👍🙂🇭🇲🦘✌️👋
@ I wonder if Master Replicas could continue producing these now that they have acquired Eaglemoss. They recently reissued the Space:1999 Eagles with new premium paint aps and packaging.
Yup! I’ve heard stories that LucasFilm (before Disney) would actually pull a license for any sort of shenanigans concerning Star Wars. Universal not so much!
@battlestarcollectica7106 I will not buy any eagle moss products ever again. Hate to say it, but the phrase "cheap Chinese junk" describes eagle.moss to a tee.. Except they aren't cheap
I’m surprised someone hasn’t created a design for 3D printed landing gear.

I still wonder how Eaglemoss went under given how popular their stuff is even today and how collectors still scramble for it.
The company grew to fast and spread its finances too thin. They were already in trouble when Covid finished them off.
All in all, Eaglemoss did a pretty good job with the BSG line. I would have liked a classic shuttle, and a Colonial Movers ship, but we got a number of good ships before they went bankrupt.

It’s really strange as I have not seen any yet. I hope someone produces a set someday!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 Someone used to make them for the Monogram models.
...which is why I never look at the underside of my Eaglemoss Viper 😎
Lol! Remember, once you see it you can’t unsee it!😂
The Viper is all well and good but I prefer the Cylon scout. It’s the closest thing to a flying saucer.🤪
Nice!!! 😂
Lol! 😂
Very disturbing, and interesting. At least, there's now a path forward, as 3D printing third parties will have a way to make landing gear which would fit that model for those who want the landing gear, now. Thanks for sharing. :)
You’re right! Someone’s going to make that soon!
I wonder if the Moebius landing gear for their Viper will scale with Eaglemoss’ Viper?
It could work!
That is very interesting! I need to look into that!
That’s B/S I personally would have preferred the landing gear and I bet that I’m not the only one who would have loved having the landing gear included instead of a B/S excuse.
It was a very bad decision by EM. Shows how much they thought of their customers!
Another great video! Keep them coming, IdahoVertiBird 🙋♂️
I will try my best!! Thanks!!
Is there a way to private message you? FB or just looking for some info 😊
In the book, they were referenced as starhound fignters.
That is very cool! I wonder why they changed the name to Viper?
Surely someone must be able to do a 3D printed landing gear set and sell it on eBay etc as an aftermarket accessory?
To date I have not seen anyone offering Eaglemoss landing gear. I think after this episode that is going to change!
the engines look like molded clay. what were the original planned landing gears, super glue some legs to it. should have been retractable. i prefer macross valkyries
I agree with you! Thanks for watching!
I allways thought this would symbolise a retracted landing gear.
It would be nice if they had added that detail to the sculpt. Thanks for watching!
Can you imagine if Lucky Martin would actually build a viper with a three engine configuration be at smaller engines what that would fly like?
🤔may just work!!
Where can i get one
Still in stock at Master Replicas. I just posted my annual gift guide episode and I talk about this Viper. Thanks for watching!
@battlestarcollectica7106 Thank you!
I would rather have the lamnding gears wnere can i buy landing gear at somebody out there makes them
I think you are going to see landing gear for sale everywhere soon!
Should have at least gave you plug in panels for landing gear in the up position.
Now you’re asking way too much! 😂🤣🤣 🤣
Hmmm, originally had a landing gear, huh?
That is interesting. And Eagle had a dispute with the china company about the poor manufacturing? Yeah, cool tid bit I'd say. Thnx for the vid
Thanks for watching!!
I had problems with some of the DC items they produced, like Batmobiles that didn't look as they were supposed to (the '70s car) or badly sculpted figurines. Was never able to afford the Galactica or Trek stuff. I gave up on the company.
They really did shoot themselves in the foot! I know a lot of Trek collectors who were not happy with many of their ship releases!
Is it me or does the battle star space crafts and buck Rogers almost identical
The Buck Rogers shops were actually rejected designs for BSG!
Thats what i thought the only original space craft is hawks ship @@battlestarcollectica7106
I have this model and landing gear would of be a nice option
It would really have elevated the model to the next level!
Good thing we live in an age of resin 3D printers to fix what companies have screwed up.
To date I can’t find anyone making landing gear for the Eaglemoss Viper. I hope that now changes!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 They're not that hard to model, just grab the old blueprint files off the internet.
The first thing I noticed was the canopy is the wrong color.
You’re right about that. I think it was do on purpose but I don’t remember the reason why. Thanks for watching!
I love this model…
It’s a great piece! Thanks for watching!
Great time to have access to a 3D printer!!!
Your right!!!
Seems a perfect opportunity for a 3rd party upgrade set.
I think that after this episode we are going to going to see some!
This is probably just one reason why eaglemoss went bankrupt. Failure to follow through. And customers don’t want to own products that are not as advertised or promised.
Their quality control was very poor. I’ve been hearing more and more horror stories since I uploaded the episode. Thanks for watching!
yes but what about where the Turbine Motorcycles went? LOL JK... BG1980 stuff not withstanding. I'm sure someone could produce a 3d printer mold for fitting in those slots to get the landing gear for those. Bet they would turn a tiny profit doing it too...
Please do not!! So far no one has!
Interesting info.
Glad you liked it!
Landing gear is designed to be retractable make it a challenge for modelers to build our own have them retractable in our perfected designs
You’re right!
A skilled modeller could make a "how to" video on scratch building landing gear from plastic stock.
That is a great idea. Someone should do it!
Thanks for the info. I think that the next company to produce a Viper will get it 100% right!
@battlestarcollectica7106 The Viper you have is still quite nice. I hope I can build my model as good. I also have the remake series two variant Vipers although I wasn't in the remake series very much. But the Vipers are ok. The original better of course.👍🙂🇭🇲🦘✌️👋
If the licensor doesn't complain about the product, it's ship the ship now!
Yes!! The only company that really cared was the old Lucasfilm (before Disney!). Lol! 😂
@battlestarcollectica7106 Absolutely, pre-Disney Lucas Film was heavily invested in working with toy companies.
That looks like repurposed patterns of the Monogram kit.
Would not surprise me! Thanks for watching!!
Eaglemoss = "Very expensive" - Yes. "Deluxe piece" - Lol 🤣
😂🤣😂🤣i know but they tried!
why not give us both? it would be awesome to have both
I agree but I think they did not have the money to correct the problem. The company always had financial problems and lived month to month.
That finish and weathering is def 3rd or 4th tier.
I agree but for a commercial product it’s not bad.
Those damn stands that Eaglemoss created were really bad. They charged premium prices for plastic models that fell off horrendous stands.
I agree with you about those stands. Not a very good design!
I miss Eaglemoss.
They were a good company that made some bad decisions! Missed by many!
I am disappointed that a pilot figure was not included.
I agree but it’s not something Eaglemoss ever did with their ships and vehicles.
Nice model. Shame it’s incomplete.
Eaglemoss HAD a chance to make it great!
Christ I would have loved landing gear
To date I have not seen a third party add in… very strange!
I actually have this piece and am totally fine not having landing gear.
It’s an amazing Viper as is but it would have been nice to have had the option.
Ironic that it was a huge sellout and they still went bankrupt. Maybe somebody can sell 3D printing landing gear add-ons?
Galactica didn’t kill them. It was Covid!
@ I wonder if Master Replicas could continue producing these now that they have acquired Eaglemoss. They recently reissued the Space:1999 Eagles with new premium paint aps and packaging.
1:41 Not a BSG fan (though did grow up in the era and enjoyed the series) nor a collector, and even I would have called BS on that
Yup! I’ve heard stories that LucasFilm (before Disney) would actually pull a license for any sort of shenanigans concerning Star Wars. Universal not so much!
It looks horrible honestly. Messy details, messy paint work, the weathering is super primitive, I am surprised that isn't the bigger problem here.
It’s the best of the commercially available Vipers. Nothing beats building and painting your own.
why do you shout the whole video?
Will make sure to lower the balance. Sorry!
Mine has a wonky/misaligned top fin
Would glue help?
@@battlestarcollectica7106Its glued in wonky, like front end is pointing down & back end is a bit higher.
Oh well ,these things happen ... they must happen? It cant be the dreaded curse again!? *@#$
The BSG curse is real! Going to make an episode on it someday! 😂🤣😂🤣
Thats what happens when you really on the Chinese to manufacture your stuff, the mess it up and do it cheap.
From what I’ve been told there was also a lot of internal company problems. Too many projects going on with poor oversight.
How much was that garbage? I mean it, looks like the models I built in middle school.
Lol! It expensive!! $100 here in USA with shipping and taxes.
This is an absolute disgrace and purchasers of this product should have been issued a partial refund!!!
😂🤣😂🤣 I wish these companies were as upstanding as you!
Real bsg Ships have blasters
Yes, they do. Thanks for watching.
2.5 minutes of a 4 minute video....???? Then we get the reason? No thumbs down.... "just hit the do not recommend button"
Hey, you have to set up the story because 100% of collectors had no idea! I’ll try and be quicker in the future.
That's what happens when you source it to the Chinese!!!
😂🤣😂🤣
The detail on that model is terrible! Look at the rear engine cowls! Big gaps and unfinished edges. Looks 3D printed.
Well are talking Eaglemoss! Have you’ve seen some of their Trek ships? Just plain bad!!
I prefer to build my own. I find eglemoss to be inferior and overpriced plus it's much more fun building a kit and seeing my accomplishments.
Nothing beats building your own. Is the Monogram kit your Viper of choice?
@@battlestarcollectica7106 Only for the scale. The Moebius kits are far better but large,
TOS BSG
Thanks for watching!!
The paint job looks real crappy.
Nothing can compare to a custom paint job. I’ve seen a few Monogram Vipers painted that are amazing!
Eagle moss is so overrated . I have two ships from the Star Trek.line and was completely disappointed when I received them
I’ve been hearing from many since I uploaded this episode that they had some “major” QC problems. Many unhappy collectors!
@battlestarcollectica7106 I will not buy any eagle moss products ever again. Hate to say it, but the phrase "cheap Chinese junk" describes eagle.moss to a tee.. Except they aren't cheap
Gods above i hated the remake...
The first season was not that bad but then it got weird!!
