Frank, I once again am so impressed with how you convey an entire rulebook while playing through an unscripted game with no pauses or interruptions. I mean, those are fine, but you have done an amazing job. I can actually learn to play the game with this video, which isn't true in a lot of other tutorials! Thank you, and subscribed!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind comment and I'm glad the video was helpful. I try to improve each time I record one of these videos and I'm really glad they are coming across well.
I would rather learn how to play a game using these types of How To Play videos, than sit there and read the entire rule book ! This way is alot easier and more fun , thanks Frank :)
We played this at a board game cafe and fell in love. We also have 10 cats in person, yeah huge fan lol. I just bought it for my husband as a gift. :) I will be watching the solo video next, ty!!
This videos are such an awesome accessibility feature of the game, I really appreciate it. Also, the explanation is very clear and concise. Thank you :)
In going through the cards, there are purple bordered cards in blue bordered cards that are different from the others. the blue border are captain's favorites, in the purple cards are reference cards. Do bees get shuffled in to the decks?
Hi NemoTrostle, when creating the card deck, the easiest thing to do is use the back of the cards. You will want to use all the cards with a blue back. The cards with the green back are used for the family version of the game, and the cards with the purple back are used for the solo mode. I hope this helps!
Great video. We played this yesterday but my friend who taught me said that you're not allowed to put captured cats through walls? He said he plays it online and its not allowed. Looks like you play being able to do so? Please can you clarify/confirm?
I bought the game recently and will play it tonight, thanks for the very clear explanation! Can I ask about your component trays? They seem to be a perfect fit for TIOC, are they custom-made?
Hey Erica, It's my pleasure - I hope you enjoyed the game! The component trays are a new item for The Isle of Cats that were announced a few months ago via Kickstarter. They are currently in production at the factory and should be widely available around March/April.
Theres a card that says "Discard any 2 played lesson cards and gain 1 permanent basket" and i don't understand how it works, since the lesson cards are played at the end of the game
Hi Dorba, during the read lessons phase, you place your lesson cards face-down on the table next to you, this is counted as playing the cards. At the end of the game you reveal the played cards to see how many points you have. For the card you mentioned, you are discarding lesson cards you have placed on the table face-down. I hope this helps!
I just got the game but haven't yet played it. I'm really excited to learn the rules..... but why didn't my game come with the cool token boxes where I can keep my fish?!?!😭
Hi Keith, the token boxes are part of the Big '2-minute' Box, which is a larger box for storing all the expansions. There's a video here that shows you the box and trays: th-cam.com/video/0GYyW1I5yNU/w-d-xo.html
I'm not sure whether have a facing in a corner is a good idea. People tend to look at people and their eyes regularly when having communication with them. But here all viewer's attention should be paid to the components and rules explanation. Your face creates battle for viewer's attention between you and the tabe.

I put this game on the shelf next to Wingspan. Now Wingspan has mysteriously disappeared...
I'm always happy to hear people are keeping their cats well fed!
