The Rise of Italy's Far Right | Decade of Hate

  • In the birthplace of modern fascism, Matteo Salvini’s ‘Italy First’ message gained the support of the far right who saw him as a fierce defender of Italy’s borders.
But many Black Italians say that Matteo Salvini’s language put targets on their backs. A failed candidate for Salvini’s own political party hunted down people of African origin in a prolonged shooting spree, and Salvini’s own actions while in power led to hundreds of migrants becoming stranded at sea.
In this episode of Decade of Hate, host Tim Hume looks at how Salvini is facing kidnapping charges for orders he made while in office, and how experts argue that his divisive language has left a lasting imprint on Italian politics.

There's a reason theirs the word "ILLEGAL" in the first place. It is correct that we should stop illegal immigration but you don't have to be fascist to go about it. If someone migrated to a country legally than he should have every right, but if someone comes into the country illegally than they should be kicked out since they were not processed correctly according to the laws of the country they have entered illegally.

Fascist is bad because if you study and did you're research on fascist Germany and Italy you would realise their ideology is harmful to everyone. Illegal immigration is bad because their is a proper way of entering a country and if you ever applied for immigration to any country you would realise not all countries have the same laws in terms of immigration Countries like the U.S., Canada, Japan and etc. have different laws on immigration and some countries are harder to get accepted than others. All you have to do is research and study on these things.

I think most of the problem comes from the bad politics we had. Speaking about immigration: many politicians let the immigrants get inside but they didn’t make up a plan to help them. Without help they end up on the road and do bad things. The politicians don’t care also about Italians so we have many poor Italians . And this creates a “war between poors”. According to me some Italians aren’t really racist they are just angry and many politicians use that.

As a European I find the analysis of this video biased.
First of all, you have to understand the situation in which Italy is.
The rest of the European countries completely neglect what is happening in Italy regarding illegal immigration.
It is a real problem that Italians are facing alone without any help or long term solution.
In a country where the disparities between the North and the South are immense, with an unemployment rate of nearly 10% and a quality of life that has been declining for the past 30 years in a country plagued by the Mafia, the rise of nationalist/racist ideas is only a symptom of a systemic problem.
I do not defend these ideas in any way, in my opinion it reflects a desperation more than a hatred.
Political Europe, neoliberalism and the Italian governments that have succeeded each other until now are the real culprits.

@@joghammer8117 the question of "replacing indigenous populations" is a nonsense.
We are 60 millions in Italy and we have welcomed less than 1 million migrants. Now we are welcoming some Ukrainians. Bad mood of population will continue due to this phenomenon, but it would not bring us to a dictatorship.
Moreover, these small numbers will just help our economy instead of the economies of other European countries. These migrants are a cheap workforce that will do enough to become Italians. Because here they have a future and also, they are dragged into the national political life by their needs and contribute to change this country in better once again like happened in past.
This is the power of these phenomenons.
We have seen resistance from local population reflexed later on representative parties that leads to far right initial supports. But these far right parties are made by criminals. To be excessive in terms. Because it's scandalous how they can even propose such things. Due to the fact that the same people that vote for them will not accept any further implementations of security, order and control over themselves, any possible actions of these parties will miserably fail and their support will slowly vanquish.
In time, with an increasing of friendship and trusting between different ethnic groups and the local population, also due of the nature of our culture and society and to not forget the influence we receive from foreign countries first of all the EU, both groups of population, natives and migrants will merge in voting for more progressive parties.
But it will require time in order to make this happen. That's why it's policy of our State take time on everything.
Fascism of course will never be a thing again and the neo fascists will never have such control over the country, nor be a serious political force in Italy.
The same people who support neo fascism here in Italy is for nature, ignorant about the nature of the country itself. That's why they can't even make a plan to take over the State or the Nation.

And for people that do not live in Italy and make blase' comments in reference to Italy's or Germany's past, really don't know what they are babbling about. It's unsafe to walk out even during the day from Rome downwards the boot. Italy is on the edge of a civil war because the leftist parties don't care of Italians! Illegal immigrants and documented immigrants have more rights than Italian nationals. Ideology debate aside, this has become classified right wing extremism because legal authorities or government parties are doing nothing to protect Italian civilians. Salvini is advocating people's hurt. How do I know all this? My sister is an Italian citizen, and my cousins tell me the same thing as I have expressed now.

PD even want to approve ius soli lmao while our economy has to restart but don't worry , in 2023 the right will win again the election , hopefully not like last time where Lega and 5 stelle had to cooperate

As an italian I would say that the problem doesn't have its own roots in nowdays, but from a century ago. After the war, many people who supported Mussolini haven't been judged in a far and democratic way. It seems like everyone forgot about the years of the fascism. Many of them even received important political rules. Of course, that generation teached to the after one that the fascism of Mussolini was a normal and good thing for the Italian society.
