I lived in the Falls for over 30 years and never heard of this story. We liked to eat at The Glens Tavern on Fridays for their fish dinner. One story you might want to check out is the military plane that crashed several blocks from the river on High Street in 1944. Having moved from High Street in 1942 to 3rd Street. the plane started spewing smoke and flames directly over our house. The pilot ejected and came down almost hitting our 2 story garage before landing a short distance away in some pine trees. My dad and several neighbors cut him down from the tree. We, of course had no idea where the plane landed, but some hours later found out it crashed near our old home on High Street and my dad drove us over there and we saw the wreck. Two young children had been playing in the yard and evidently been called in for lunch just before the plane crashed into it.
Chuck and Mary here. We're a new subscriber to your channel. We like the way you present everything- legend and lore, then the history with period photos if possible and the present. Well done. Also we like your views on cemetery's. A sacred, quiet place with lots of listeners. Or just enjoy the serenity. Thank you. Be safe and carry on.
I just found your channel on Reddit! It's awesome to see someone documenting history in the Akron area. I've been by this bridge many a time and had no idea about its past. Keep up the good work man!
Awesome job on this video. I have lived here for more than 50 years and did not realize that. I will think of the victims every time I drive by or walk on the bridge. Thanks
Every one of your videos is an inspiration to go out and see, read, breathe, and appreciate some of the things most of us never knew. Thank you for all the information and videos you make for us. :)
Thank you!!! Fascinating and tragic!!! It's a very beautiful place that would be a great place to relax and meditate among the beauty of the scenery and the sound of the flowing water.

I grew up in West Akron, and moved to the Falls in the mid-80's (pre-Sheraton and Front Street Mall). When driving down Front Street, I noticed a small, unassuming sign that said, Observation Bridge for Viewing Falls", pointing to an equally unassuming wooden bridge. One day I decided to see what it was about, and was absolutely gobsmacked at the spectacular view. That's when I realized why it's called Cuyahoga Falls--LOL!!! I also realized that when you're driving, there are very few places where you can see the river from the road. Thanks for the very interesting history!

Northern Ohio Traction & Light Company trolley. Probably powered by the power plant upstream. Originally hydroelectric, it was eventually converted to steam.
There's a nice series of those "Haunted--" books. I actually hadn't heard of the High Bridge so it was nice learning new history!
