Excellent….! I made some tabs, and used the 2 part gorilla glue when the initial “test” video came out testing the glues. I haven’t had one single issue…! These videos are priceless..!! 🙏😊

    Nice fix! Steve.
It’s a shame that Equinox knows there is a problem with the materials used on their coils, but has done nothing to do to resolve it.

About a year or so ago you showed a red colored bracket brace to strengthen and reinforce the tabs. Could you just Gorilla glue that brace onto the coil?

Gigmaster to the rescue! What you've shown are great effective ways to repair or prevent breakage of the coil ears. I would think that if someone buys the coil strengthener/reinforcer brace and Gorilla epoxies it to the coil ears should fix it as well. Way to go, Gig! Keep Digging!

There are a few things that would improve the reliability of these coils and greatly reduced the probability of failure. First replace the ears with nylon not ABS plastic or delren plastic these two types of plastic are almost indestructible. The second thing is to use what's called a coil stabilizer basically it's a strut that is attached to the coil and to the swing arm pipe at the exact angle you want the coil to stay. It can be easily manufactured out of ABS plastic nylon it doesn't matter even lexan or plexiglass. They are generally 3 to 4 in tall and this supplies a substantial increase in the integrity of the support of the coil by not adding any measurable weight. Nylon tie wraps can be used to attach this plate to the swing arm pipe. They are very simple to build basically any sheet of plastic cut into a 1/4 semicircle shape the bottom of this plate has a hole that passes right through the coil and the bolt that supports the system.

I haven’t had any luck with 3D printed coil stabilizer pieces, they all cracked and I bought them from different sources. I hope you have luck with your 3D stuff. I finally built an ear strengthening support out of a black Teflon tray from a craftsman tool box, no glue, just zip ties , it works wonderfully.

Excellent video! I like how you reinforce the new one. Why not just epoxy on one of the 3-D printed coil ear stiffeners? I have those and thought if I epoxied them on like in your video here they would be much better.

Hi Gigmaster, My tabs broke while detecting in the ocean 🌊. I fixed them by making my own reinforcement tabs out of an acrylic sheet with my Dremel. I then attached the broken tabs and the reinforcement tabs with JB Weld and attached them to the coil. It lasted about 18 months, until I went in the ocean again. The pressure of the coil moving through the water must have been too much. Anyway, where did you get the 3D printed tabs from? They might work better that's all. Thanks mate 😊

F**k all these repairs. I'm urging everyone to STOP buying ALL Minelab products until they acknowledge that they compromised on quality, that they have fired the people who urged the lack of quality, and that they will never again make such outrageously cheap products. My SECOND coil's ears just simply fell apart into pieces. This is the NOX 800 piece of crap coils I'm referring to. Perhaps lots of other models suffer from the same lack of Minelab's lack of quality control.
