    Do you know what would REALLY be cool? If MINELAB would fix the problem so breakage is not so commonplace. They don't even seem willing to even LOOK at the problem. Why have they let it go for so long the way it is?

    Looks great Gig, you should make some extras and sell them, looks like it will work better than the coil stiffeners on the market now.

    Nice job Steve,
    You may be able to build them up along the joint with a little superglue and baking soda too. I love the way that works.

    I used JB weld on the broken ears of my Minelab X-Terra705 coil and built up a backing wall behind them also for extra stability, have used it twice without a problem so far.

    A minelab tech told me to keep an eye on the rubber washers between the tabs. she said the washers flatten and wear out and could cause the tabs to break. her advice was to replace the washers every so often.

    As good as a coil strengthener but cheaper. Plus you have glue left over for another job. 👍

    Great video Gig, long time watcher of your channel. I finally broke an ear on my Equinox coil... what with ABS did you choose? I need to do the exact same to mine. One more question... Anderson or Detect Ed for Equinox shaft? Thx for the great videos 👍

      I like the detect-ed shaft i have a link in my video description. I will add a link to the abs also.

    Great video very useful. You tested the glue under creep strain, but do be aware the sudden impact or Charpy impact test could also be employed to test the durability of the bond under sudden force like hitting a rock. Some bonds break very easily when knocked but are strong under gradual or creep strain. ie they have good tensile strength but are brittle when knocked. Thanks again.

    Proofs in the surf! Does make you wonder why the coil manufactures don't reinforce this point... perhaps they are making too much money on us buying replacements. Anyway... if this passes the Gigmaster Test... and you do seem to have your share of failures (coils)... this will be one of the best info videos ever... well done.. if it holds up to "GM" standards!

    If the coil plastic is ABS then small drops of acetone will melt the two together. You have to be careful not to use too much acetone at a time or it will eat it up.

    Nice fix Gig. The only problem, (which is worth it) is more resistance when swingin’ in the water. But if it holds out, beats buying new coils and letting those collect dust or throwing them away out of frustration. Like yourself, my minds gears have been turning on an idea to fix this problem when coils go out of warranty. Nice video content. _/

      I have had my Equinox 800 for a long time and never had a broken coil nor arm rest, if those who use the Equinox the correct way then these breakages would not happen same with the arm rest I have personally watched other EQUINOX users push and force their arm down through the arm band attachment before taking a few seconds more to loosen the velcro strap before putting their arm down through the strap and this would stop the arm rest from taking personal abuse

  • @dermotgillespie5138
    @dermotgillespie5138 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The NOX 600 and 800 coil yoke stiffeners will make your coils less prone to breaking by reinforcing the existing yoke plates. There are to versions available one for the 11- and 15-inch coil and one for the 6-inch coil.
    Also available is the repair yoke for the 11- and 15-inch coil. If your yoke tab breaks off, you can use this part to repair the coil using two cable ties to hold the yoke plate in position securely

    Crying shame that Minelab hasn't come up with a permanent solution to this problem. I have never seen coil ears break as frequently as they do on these machine's. Minelab should own the problem and come up with a solution! Hey Minelab time to get to work!!!
