    Banished is a city-building strategy game focused on careful resource management and survival as an isolated and growing society
    The player guides citizens of a remote community of outcasts to grow and maintain a settlement through a command economy. The game focuses largely on the citizens of the player's town as individuals. As the designer states in a video, "the townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy and well-fed are essential to making your town grow as you have to deal with relentless weather conditions, fires, depression, starvation, an aging population and more.

    You seem to have gotten the Marketplace backwards. The yellow radius is not where they collect from. Houses within that yellow circle will go to the market for all their needs, instead of barns and stockpiles, even if those barns and stockpiles are closer.
    The vendors will go to all your barns, trade posts and stockpiles and pick up items... ALL of them. Closest one first, then the second closest, then the third closest and so on and so forth until they've visited every single one of them, then they'll start over.
    That's why the game recommends 12 vendors per market (even though 1 or 2 will probably do for a medium-sized mid-game town).
    It's a thing that many people are confused about, but it's a very important mechanic. If you get it wrong, you can accidentally kill off your people by starvation or freezing, even if you have plenty of food and firewood. I did it a lot in the beginning, before I realized the purpose of the yellow circle.
    You'll have one vendor walking halfway across the map to fetch some food and 5-6 barns full of food right next to the market, but because there's no food in the actual market yet, the people within the yellow radius starves to death.
    Sorta like in real life right now, you could live right next to a farm, but you'll most likely get in the car and drive 20 minutes to the supermarket to pick up milk, while the supermarket get their milk from farms all over the country. The yellow radius in this case would be the distance people are willing to travel before even thinking of knocking on Farmer Joe's door and ask if he sells milk. If you live within that radius, you'd probably never ask Farmer Joe, even if the supermarket runs out of milk.

      Ok, so it's best to build houses around markets. Rather than say building houses right next to industries.

      @@ThePeacemaker848 No, the biggest waste of time for workers comes by walking to and from home and storage buildings. So the most efficient layout is placing houses and barns close to work places.

    Why put trader next to a fisherman? You need to explain these things.
    Trader does NOT come every 5 minutes. It's about once a year.

    • @tierneyk88
      @tierneyk88 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      From what I've heard, you shouldn't. The fisherman will collect fish based on how many water tiles in it's radius. So you'd want to avoid putting bridges and anything overlapping water, around it. But I could be wrong.

    • @da_ghoul9432
      @da_ghoul9432 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are not wrong, fishing pier should be placed on peninsulas, or lakes, or large bends in the river, or close to a creek feeding a river. The more water tiles, the more fish they catch. Never overlap the yellow circle of 2 different fishing piers, this causes overfishing, and reduces the fish caught from both buildings.

    You don't need wells near the natural water like streams and lakes. If something catches fire near the natural water, people just use that natural water source to fill their buckets, so it's just a waste of stone.

    • @filthyswit
      @filthyswit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't realize wells produced unnatural water, or that there was such a thing.

      Wells also increase happiness, but if you have a market then you don't need a well nearby as markets have them included, wells are also the places where people gather around to chat and hang out so it increases their happiness, good to know if you are away from building a market and you have low happiness.

    Is it true that the more trading posts you have, the more merchants that will come?

    • @zombieowen
      @zombieowen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Also if you save right before the boat docks, if you need something different, just reload. Since it's randomized, you basically roll the dice again. Sometimes when you're desperate for firewood or food, it's good to know. You can still get 14 of something you don't need, of course though.

  • @zombieowen

    If a bridge or trader are in the yellow radius of a fisher, they impact the number of fish produced.

    Having storage barns close to the market makes very little sense. It is beacaue the people mostly stack what they need in their houses. The worker at the market, acts like a cashier, not like a warehouse employee :)

    nice video, i was wondering more on the farms. do different types of food grow faster then others? how many farmers do you use on a 15x15 farm? i notice some crops get done before others, not sure if it might be that they live closer to the farms. also how do i stop they from making babies? i was on day 47 with about 150 people, 40 schoolers, and 60 babies. food was great all was good, then by the year 50 i was at 450 people, 140 schoolers, and 160 babies food was gone wood all gone. by year 57 i hit X5 speed and watch it burn to the ground. lol

      1. Populations tend to explode so limit them by not making too much houses. However, be careful because you may experience a decline in the population as the people grow old and are unable to create any more children. It’s best to build more houses at a modest rate enough so people aren’t making too much babies but enough to steadily grow in pop.
      2. As for the crops I don’t know. There’s a possibility that different crops grow at different rates, there may also be a chance that slower growing crops provide higher yield in food. Best to look it up. It’s also possible that they are just growing faster due to better tools and better education. I’ve also heard (Not sure if this is true) that crop rotation is actually useful. Don’t stay on one crop for too long, switch them out every other harvest.
      3. 15x15 farms should have 4 farmers working on it. 15x7 should have 2 farmers. And 7x7 should have 1 farmer. These are just the ideal farming sizes.
      4. The issue your having with wood and food from, as you’ve stated, year 47 (with lots of food and wood) to year 50 (with no food and wood) is a lack of food and wood production. Always ALWAYS have a ton of farms, it’s also good to start setting up blacksmiths and schools so that ur people have the best tools and education. These are important because they lead to higher yields in food when farming (Also higher yields in other jobs). Wood may be an issue due to the use of wooden houses. You NEED to upgrade ur homes to stone ones or else you’ll be chopping through ur wood stock like butter.
      This may be a little late since it’s been months but hopefully it helps

      When you have a market, make sure it is centered in large flat area, put houses all around but on pause, other production buildings between houses like tailor/blacksmith also school, tavern, then outside of this cluster on the rim of area of market`s influence put farms, storage barns, stockpiles, woodcutters, pastures, orchards. A bit away from these outter buildings make foresters lodge, hunters, gatherers, herbalists, with their own stockpiles and storage barns, also keep away from the cluster quarries and mines as these buildings effect happiness negatively, if you apply this make sure markets are full of workers so they can easily distribute goods, one more thing essential is connection of roads, make a nice web with a lot of crossroads and intersections. When you get more babies/extra food/need more people unpause some houses, step by step. First build these houses that are closer to buildings where you need workers. Hope I helped☺ plan this out

      I haven't played this game since I bought it. LOL. I think back then I called them days and minutes instead of years. These days I get the same comment. Seems to drive the internet nuts. I'm thinking about redoing the entire series from scratch in short 1 to 3 minute videos. These were early day vids. Sorry for the length but thanks for the advice. I'm listening.

    Making a warehouse district is one of the best things to do. You say that storage barns need to be close to the production places. This makes very little sense, because when you centralize something. It becomes easier to find. When things are easy to find, it makes things go easier and faster.

      Spasoje Kulasevic education does take 10 years but when they come out they work smarter and increase the yield by certain amount of percentage. IMHO you should not start education till you got enough people to produce food, wood, firewood, and fill all jobs. Once you balanced your people any newborn from then on shall go to school. Preferably after 3-6 year cycle.
