- Ok, so it seemed I sparked interest in my last trip to the craft store when I featured some brushes. So I made this video to help some people out! Enjoy!

When makeup artists first starting doing makeup with brushes, high quality artists' brushes were in the go-to and are in fact what they started with - so your video makes a lot of sense! Funny how people don't think of this as an option or alternative to MAC brushes.
How does this video not have like at least a million views ?!
I need to thank you profusely. 10 years ago I followed your recommendations and EVEN NOW I still have the same brush set I put together. This was a great investment!

Your video's SPOT ON! I'm always keeping my eyes open for great brush pricing, etc., no matter what store I'm at. Once you apply makeup with brushes, you never go back. Thanks for sharing this major tip, as many people haven't been aware of this.

it's so nice, just starting out, that as a student, you (not our instructors) give us "permission" to get " just like"(dupe) brushes until we start making the price for the name brushes!

Thank you very much for taking the time to make this vid! I'm a new Bare Escentuals customer & am starting to build my makeup & brush collection. I've heard both MAC & Bare Escentuals brushes- but was looking for comparable cheaper alternatives. I'm going to check out Michael's before I buy any more brushes, since watching this!! I'm glad this video is still up. I've been using Loew-Cornell brushes for years on my face. I've had most of them for 10 years plus. They are high quality brushes in the art world and will last years if cared for properly. Another good brand for blushers, powders and contours are the Royal Soft-Grip series.
And to think I go to the art store regularly and I never even thought of using those gorgeous paint brushes for makeup. Thanks for the idea and sharing your knowledge

I love this particular video, as I was actually looking for some tips which mac brushes to get, after watching this video I realized i was actually doing it the other way around. loew cornell paintbrushes are awesome as far as painting...( artist here) however i never never thought about using them as MAC brushes until someone gave me this vid.

I was in A.C. Moore awhile back looking for something else and passed by the isle with the paint brushes and I thought to myself they look just like makeup brushes. Wow!!! Great to see that you really can use the paint brushes for makeup brushes. Thanks for the video!!

oh you are amazing, this is so very helpful. i'm an artist, but had no idea which brushes to go buy that would be the equivalent of makeup brushes, or what sort of hair/fibers were safe to use for makeup and all that. you are a life saver!

Once again, thank you, I'm just starting out and have one complete set of brushes, large and small, the problem here in the uk is that it's often cheaper to buy a set which has a load of brushes that you will never use, just to get 2 or 3 that you do want than it is to buy these brushes separately. I've thought about artists brushes, but wasn't sure they would be suitable so this info from you comes at just the right time. Your tutorials are so helpful, please keep them coming x

I was told they are mass produced because they come in set units, and just really ideal for the holidays as gifts. A lot of people like the short handles as it fits in their kits better. Full size are hand-made.
Thank you so much for revealing to cosmetics enthusiasts what makeup artists have known forever. :) There are only about a handful of brush manufacturers and they private label for most cosmetics companies. These companies generally make art brushes. A makeup artist I know took me to the art store years ago and pointed to all the brushes I should purchase, and funny thing is, they were all LC brushes, and some were even the ones you suggested. Thank you again for educating the masses.

Soooooo happy that u did this video!!! I'm new to makeup & really want to learn the proper way to apply it. I knew that I needed high quality brushes but I was skeptical about shelling out buckets of money just for practice. Now I can't wait for tmrw to get here!!! Thanks so much for these tips! I went to Michael's today and got the PERFECT MAC 227 alternative. It's the Loew Cornell 270 Maxine's Mop at 3/4." It's got the appropriate with, softness, and shape. I wouldn't have found this if it weren't for you! You're the BEST!

I am an artist and I can contest to the fact that the L.C. brushes you are showing are indeed high quality. For some reason I never thought to use my painting brushes for my make up! Cool thing, I don't need to go out and buy any lol! Thank you soo much for this, you are awesome!

the andled face brush is great for contouring the cheek bones, and blushing narrow cheek bones. The angled shadow brush is great for contouring the crease line.
hey Luna - I personally find I have more control in lining when I use an Angled (wedge) brush like a 208 or a 266. Specially using Gel Liners. And they are great for defining brows as well.

hey laryn - yes I sometimes use painter brushes to my clients - a great way to make them realize that they can also use painter brushes for makeup, and doesnt have to buy expensive cosmetic brands. I try to have 2 of the more popular brush I use, and I do the quick-clean method on larger gigs that has more than one client. If it's BIG, I have an assistant that does all the cleaning and prepping for me.
On this day, 4yrs ago this video helped a college girl who had just started out with makeup and wanted to be beautiful without going broke. Today it is still helping young women on a budget. Amazing.
Hey Jespera - yes, mostly, anything you need fine lining. Angled brushes are great with Fluidline and using e/s for lining.
Fist of all thank you so much for that post. The funny thing is that I paint as a hobby and when i saw mac brushes i realized that most of them look like art brushes. I just went Michaels and bought a bunch; open the internet to compare if i got the right brushes and there you are with this post. most of the brushes i bought are the one you showed in here. To everyone else, go to mac website, print out the brush section and take it to ur craft store. IT WORKS THE SAME WAY!! Thanks again!!

hey Catxfight - yes! There are a ton of 190-looking brushes from LC. They are called Flibert and just get a large size suitable for your need. There are also a ton of synthetic bristled brushes too for eyeshading.

i recently went to Michaels and remembered this video ... i have a lot of the basic MAC brushes except the 239 and i bought the maxine's mop brush and it works exactly the same i love it and i only spent 2.99! i also bought the clear containers and the color fill and it looks beautiful with all my brushes ur the best

So after watching your video last night i went to Michaels today and pretty much got the exact same brushes as the new Holiday set for a fraction of the price! I looooove my new brushes!
I finally got all the brushes even the italian badger :) I am so pumped my make up was so flawless today everyone just looked at me and I felt beautiful which is something I don't say often so thanks for your help!
