  • These sleds were both built with predator 212 engines and have 18tooth sprockets. The Track Rat has a billet flywheel and connecting rod with governor removed, 18lb valve springs, mod 2 cam and thinner head gasket. Built from a 1980 Yamaha excel V 540 (16.5x135)and 1979 Yamaha 340 ET. (15x110) TrackTor weighs 300lbs and the Track Rat about 250.

      Thanks! They’re really fun to build and ride. You get lots of weird looks on the ice though.

    You should come join the "Track Sled Builds if the North" FB group. Lots of cool builds and ideas. Love that track rod.

      Thanks for the invite. I had no idea there was a group like this on FB. Sent my request in. Not a huge FB fan but I’d love to take a look.

      Thanks Gregg, my next step is to get them registered. Had a run in with FWP here in Montana last weekend. No tickets issued but the warden said that they classify as snowmobiles.

      Thanks James. They are a lot of fun to build. I’ve shot off plenty of mind bullets in the shop trying to figure out all the details. Let me know if you have any questions on your build.

      Thanks, looks like you almost got yours complete. I like that you went with a boagie wheel design. Mine just have the skids which make for a bumpy ride over rough terrain. My second machine has alittle suspension to it so that helps, but still can’t get the traction that an all boagie wheel set up can offer. Flipping the track around gave it alittle more aggressive bite though. Excited to see the completed machine!

    I am just beginning to built a track sled from an 89 ski doo formula mx chassis. I have a lifan 6.5 honda clone, a cvt clutch kit. Do you have to cut a keyway slot on the Jack shaft for the chain sprocket? Thank you in advance. Love your builds.

    • @dalen1120
      @dalen1120  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a few ways you can fasten the sprocket on.
      1.) cut a keyway slot in the jackshaft; if you don’t have milling ability you can use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to CARRFULLY cut the slot in. Take your time and check for fit often
      2.) You can sandwich the sprocket with keyed shaft collars on either side. And run a piece of 1/2 width key stock through both collars and the sprocket. This is what I did on my first machine and have had zero slippage.
      3.) Weld the sprocket to the jackshaft. This is a very solid method but you will have zero adjustability once you weld it on.
      Here are some links to the parts I used. Sizes will depend on what you need for your project. Width of the slots should match on the sprocket and shaft collars. I used 18tooth sprockets on both of my machines. Seem to have plenty of torque. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      @@dalen1120 thank you very much

    • @dalen1120
      @dalen1120  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2nd method doesn’t require you to cut a keyway in the jackshaft. The collars hold the key from slipping but since there is no keyway cut in, you need a key stock that is the full width but 1/2 the height so that the sprocket can slide over it. It will be rectangular in cross section. McMaster carr provides detailed pdf drawings and dimensions of most of what they sell so you can get it all figured out on paper first.

      It looks like my jackshaft is 1" I am probably going to order a gear soon. I have seen a 15t, and an 18T. I am ordering in Canada and hope to get it sooner than later. Saw a couple on Amazon still trying to decide to cut a keyway or use collars. Princess auto (harbour freight equivalent) has some keyway collars. I just want it to work.
