    As I said, I'll continue to test this display and report back. Oh, and one slight clarification on that bezel less design when I mentioned along the bottom. I was just referring to the frame along the bottom, and not the actual bezel. Anyway, sending you all my best, and I'll see you here in the comments. 🤘

    Thanks for the review - I’ve been looking to upgrade to a larger monitor instead of using a two monitor set up for my graphic design - will definitely consider this monitor vs the Samsung curved monitor I’ve been eyeing - do you have a preference on flat vs curved? 49" CRG9 Dual QHD Curved QLED Gaming Monitor

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your time. So, I’ve been using a curved display for a couple of years, and I do like it, however my experience with this bigger, flat panel has been really fun to test. Especially if you have the right setup to be able to sit back just enough where you feel immersed in the content, but not so close that you feel like you can’t see everything.
      My curved display is a MVA panel, so this is where that curve really helps because otherwise the edges would be washed out, whereas on this display, they’re not.
      I will say, that this display is really hard to beat at this price, especially with the deals INNOCN has on these quite often.
      I have looked at the CRG9, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to test it, so I couldn’t confidently give an opinion just yet, although I know a couple of people that have that display and do like it.

    Kevin, thanks for the great review. Super helpful stuff! I ordered this monitor (unfortunately before I ran across your video)...BTW I've been subscribed to your channel for a while but it doesn't seem like I get notifications when you publish new videos. Anyway, I got it this monitor on a flash sale on Amazon for $499...which is an amazing price so I couldn't pass it up. My only reservation is whether the 1080p resolution will work for me. I'll be using it for productivity and software dev...and it's the latter I'm concerned about..will the text be crisp enough for me. A couple of questions for you:
    1) I'm using a M1 MacBook Pro, and you mentioned that you won't get 120HZ refresh using USB-C to USB-C but you will be able to get that with USB-C to DP or via HDMI to HDMI/USB-C to HDMI, if you use a USB-C to DP can you charge your laptop via that one cable/connection? I'm guessing not but want to confirm.
    2) Will refresh rate (60HZ vs 120HZ) have an influence on how crisp text will be on screen?
    3) How is that Monitor arm working out for you? I'm looking to use my monitor on a standing desk so I'd need to make sure that I can position the monitor in an ergonomically correct position (top of monitor at eye level) while standing. So the arm would have to be able to extend quite a bit. Not sure exactly how high off the desk I would need to the position the monitor to reach that proper ergonomic height. So I'm hoping that maybe you can share your experience. BTW, I'm 6ft tall so maybe I can extrapolate in case we aren't the same height. Also have you had an drooping/sagging or position issues with the monitor stand? Do you have a review video on that monitor arm?
    Cheers.

      @KevinRossRN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, appreciate you hanging out here. I haven’t posted in awhile, but I’ll be starting to create here again soon.
      As far as the cables, that’s correct on that refresh rate, and unfortunately those won’t be charging the MBP.
      Higher refresh rate is nice depending on what you’re doing, but for text it’s more about that pixel density. It is a little softer with text then say a 1440 or 4K display. I still use this display even several months later. No plans to replace it right now.
      As far as the monitor arm I haven’t done a formal review although I have been in touch with the company to do one, although I did purchase it prior to them reaching out and hands down would highly recommend it.
      I have used a variety of mounts, but there’s just something about making a reasonable investment in something that is holding a display, especially if that display was at a significant cost.
      I’ve appreciated the customer service from INNOCN. Many of the issues (with any display) is typically because of the Mac or the OS. Just the frustration that is part of working in this ecosystem 🤷‍♂️

    • @jetmartin9501
      @jetmartin9501 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinRossRN Thanks for the quick response. I've been super busy with work over the last few months so it's possible that I could have missed notifications of your videos.
      Sounds like with MacOS I'll need to use two cables if I also want to have my MBP charged via the monitor.
      Can I assume that HDMI to HDMI will allow me to run this monitor at 120HZ?
      Any thoughts about my question as to whether the monitor stand will allow me to raise the monitor high enough to get to eye level (i.e., proper ergonomic position) on a standup desk when in standing position?
      Just another note...Innocn had their 40" 1440 monitor on a flash sale ($399) so I picked it up as well. This will give me an option if their 44" 1080 monitor just isn't crisp enough for me.
      Cheers.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s correct on the two cables and HDMI should serve you as long as you have a cable that’s higher speed.
      And yes, as far as the monitor arm it will work for you. Plenty of height to be able to manage on a standing desk. I also really like the USB A ports in the base.

    Kevin, great video, thank you - I've been laboring over the choice of what monitor to buy to use with a new MacBook Pro 16", debating whether I needed a 4K, Thunderbolt monitor, etc. I think I like this due to the size to price value.
    Question: I'd love to just connect via USB-C to USB-C for display & power. Another comment here discussed using USB-C to DP to get higher refresh rate, if I understand that correctly.
    What's your recommended setup (cables) to use with a new 16" MacBook Pro with M1 Pro? USB-C to USB-C for 1 cable connection, or USB-C to DP for better performance, but still using the MagSafe power cable?

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally prefer the one connection. It’s just so easy and eliminates that extra cord. I mean honestly, the higher refresh rate is good for gaming, but on a Mac this is just going to be limited. I’m typically getting at most 60fps on the games that are playable.
      Not to mention any content I’m consuming. I’m personally not looking for higher refresh rates, but that’s just my preference.
      Just my two cents worth.

      @@KevinRossRN Perfect, that's what I was hoping to hear. I was confused on whether I needed an actual Thunderbolt monitor or if the USB-C would be enough. I don't game so it's just for productivity and I think this will be perfect for the time being. Thanks again.

    I’ve been trying to find a ‘sweet spot’ for an ultrawide. I’ve never taken the time to look at this monitor just because of the whole 1080p, so I was leaning towards the 40” 1440p version, but overall, do you notice any of the individual pixels on such a large display? I plan on mainly using this for a longer timeline for videos

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The one thing that’s “softer” on this display is text. For video and photo work that’s posted on TH-cam it’s really been a great display. I do have a 3440 x 1440 display and it’s pretty comparable. I do however notice a difference with the 4K display from INNOCN and it’s what I rely on if I’m doing something beyond TH-cam.
      I still have this monitor setup on the desk and have still enjoyed it. I’m not really noticing individual pixels with the work I’m doing.

      @@KevinRossRN thanks so much! One last question, if you don’t mind. Do you use the 27” 4k with another setup? Or do you use them together apart of the same setup?
      I can’t find any actual dimensions for the 27” on Amazon.
      Ideally, I’d like to mount the 27” above this, but I have no clue if that monitor will dwarf this one being so wide.
      I hope that made sense.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the 27 inch on my other desk. As far as mounting it above the ultrawide, it will look a bit “off.” I initially had to get used to the size of this thing and I was coming from a 34 inch ultrawide that was still plenty big. I still use that 34 inch, but I ended up taking it to another office.
      I think the dimensions of the 40” along with the 27” may be more suitable as far as aesthetics are concerned. Just my opinion.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t often work with HDR, but for HLG and rec 709, this is definitely a common use case. Are you looking for a bigger ultrawide like this one for editing, or need something in the 4K realm?

    • @BadBobB
      @BadBobB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KevinRossRN Thanks for the reply. At this point, I’d like something larger than 27” that will allow for accurate color correction and around 500-600 nits without having to sell my house. The other problem that I read is that macOS doesn’t play well with 3rd party monitors. BenQ is about s close as I can find. Mbp only uses HDMI 2.0, another problem. I assume then you do use it with HLG footage.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I do use it with HLG. And BenQ does play pretty well with MacOS. And you’re right that some displays just don’t function as they should with a Mac, which is unfortunately a MacOS issue.

    How is the color accuracy for photography/video work?

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is color accurate for those use cases. They make really good panels. It’s 10-bit, but also 1080p so that might make a difference for you. I use their 27 inch 4K display for photo and video work all the time.

I have tried many different cables and a few docks. Anyone else having this issue? This is the 2nd monitor I have gotten from them with same issue. • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the delay is MacOS. It doesn’t play well will many monitors, and the ones that don’t have a specific display driver in MacOS just end up using a generic one.
      As far as the error. Have you tried to play the video on the MacBook’s screen first (while still plugged into the display) and then move it over to the external?

      I was just looking through some Apple forums where others were asking about the same thing with certain apps. HBO MAX and Amazon being the bigger “offenders.”
      This is one of those unfortunate things that happens with MacOS. They are terrible at external display support, and more recently with Catalina (I believe it this is when it tanked).

      For a higher pixel density you’re definitely pushing that price up quite a bit for something this size. I think INNOCN has done an awesome job with these displays and I’ve continued to be pleasantly surprised with how sharp they are.
      One thing I did have to get used to was the fact that it’s not curved, however after using it for a bit it’s been fine.
