@@prezzzy you’ll still need upper body strength. i recommend doing calisthenics in combination with learning boxing. i’ve been doing it for 7 months now and it’s completely transformed me
@@Tony_Jeffries I'd love to do it, but almost no friends are interested in boxing. I really hope you are making some decent money out of your videos, because they are one of the best instructional videos for training, not only in martial arts, but any sport where I have reasonable insight (football, weight training, tennis).
Been boxing for years, training with a coach, and have taken a fight in a sanctioned match, and still I come back to these videos to sharpen up my fundamentals all the time. Tony is the goat.
You have no idea how much I needed this video, thank you so much for taking an hour of your life to teach complete strangers how to practice the sport you once lived so fiercely for. I really love watching your videos man, all of them.
Best basics video I’ve seen. You covered so many things and executed it fantastically. Great job man. I’m going to point my beginners to this from now on.
I love people like these, One of the best boxers is tony, and I love he isnt boastful about it, he isn’t like: “Haha, I know boxing and you don’t, I’m one the best and I wont share my secret techniques”, he is like: “Hey man, I will share all my techniques on how to be a good boxer, and make sure you get all of it”, he puts up so much time and effort, this man is just amazing.
Back to basics, I love it. I've been training and working off your videos for a while now but it never hurts to work from the ground up and break it all down. There's always something to learn!
I've been very poorly, and I've lost a lot of muscle mass in my arms and legs. I've always enjoyed watching boxing and I recently bought a heavy bag. This is perfect for me to watch before I start using it. Thank you so much!!!
Just joined a gym with seasoned teachers. It's a boxing, kickboxing gym. I am my first month in. I've wanted to train in boxing for years, an now have pulled the trigger. I've learned sooo much from my little experience an time invested in body mechanics, to conditioning, dexterity and balance. I'm trying to focus on the fundamentals (1,2,) enough about my story. I appreciate your time invested in this series to give those interested in (novice, like me)or even seasoned fighters to pick up a tool or 2 a put in their bag. Much appreciated.
Tony, this is an awesome lesson on boxing. Never seen anyone presented in such a complete, crisp, clear without hold back or reserve. Wish you was in the East Coast....most definitely would send my kids to your Gym and go my self. World class information. Thank you. God bless!
no, but at least he monetizes the great work done. As you know, youtube pays creators for the amount of views, and this video and the content he uploads deserves it
Many trainers are good but when teaching they just want to 'Act' tough and live the character of "trainer", the student then ends up learning so little. YOU are the opposite! you're genuine and very honest when teaching. Love how you organize your categories as well. Keep it up man
Tony i really hope you see this. I am a beginner boxer and really love the sport. I’m always trying to learn and your videos always gives me new ideas and techniques which I can learn for free. Sir I appreciate all your efforts and I wish you all the success in the future as you deliver value to us like no other 🙏🏽
I did 1 or 2 boxing classes at the gym and enjoyed them, but had real problems following the moves. (I have no coordination so can't just pick things up on the fly.) Thank you for all the time and effort you put into explaining and demonstrating things properly. This is absolutely fantastic.
If one of my friends ever asked me about a good video that explains boxing well for beginners, I'm gonna recommend them this one! Love your content man keep it up :)!

I looked up beginner boxing guide out of curiosity and to kill some time so I landed on this video, and after I watched the first 20 mins of this video I started to think that I might give it a shot and start practicing it, the vid is well organised and the information was clear, simple, and straight to the point. Amazing!
Tony, you present the basics of boxing in a way that is straightforward and easy to understand. I am 59 years old and I am just starting my boxing journey. Your instruction is so clear that I can practice the skills as you teach them. Eventually I will join a gym and train with a coach, but following your TH-cam program is helping me get prepared for that next step. This is good stuff. I appreciate your guidance.
Just started training MMA & this video is so great for getting down the basics of throwing punches. Going to apply these tips in my session today, been shadow boxing in my room & I can already feel the difference in technique. Thank you so much
I am 74 yrs old my gramps was a club fighter in the 1920s and 30s and made a living from fighting. My Dad and two Uncles were taught by him. They passed on self defense to all of their descendants. We were all taught don’t start the fight but if need be end it as soon as possible. Sternum punches were always foremost. I really enjoy watching your videos and advise my Grandsons to do the same. Thanks for your insight and boxing advice.
Ya, all are well and can defend themselves. Gals included. My daughter is 53 and boxes three days a week. Her sons, my grandsons, began training at six years old. Thanks for noticing.
I've always wanted to learn boxing & I'm 11:37 into the video and I feel like Mike Tyson. I appreciate the wonderful and straightforward guidance. THIS is a tutorial!
As a 38 year old Father of 3 looking to get into boxing for fitness this video is gold! Thank you so much! You can tell a lot of effort went into this!
Im New to boxing and only know how to "jab jab" after finding this video, i play it every time i train and pick out small details and now ive improved so much!! Thx Tony
This video is amazing, thank you for your effort in making this. I’ve signed up for boxing classes at a local gym and it cost me hundreds of dollars. I learned exactly these things but without the details and explanations you gave for each punch. You have definitely helped me ✊🏼 insane this is free, thank you so much
I wouldn’t lie I’ve been doing weightlifting for over 9 years on and off but I suddenly obsessed with boxing past two months starting in September then I found this video which is the best for amateur tutorial I ever come across. In past two been training with Tony’s techniques now I’m at stage four (Punches) I never thought I would be able throw punches like pro at start my lats/shoulders & wrist are in pain as hell but now strong as thanks to you Tony much love!!
The guy that disliked the video deserves a slap from each subscriber.. Amazing job Tony! Can't imagine how much time it took to put all of this together..
Thank you so much! Sometimes I can't believe content like this is free 🔥🔥 Kids without money for a gym around the world are going to be able make so much progress because of people like you! So dope man
Tony, I’m a 59 yo Martial Artist. I respect science. You’re one of the best teachers I’ve learned from. You’ve confirmed many concepts I felt were true. I’m opening a home sparring gym with MA half my age. My job is to hold my own and teach the younger guys the way to box correctly. I’ve not achieved Boxing greatness in any way. I did win Best Boxer in High School, I earned a Brown Belt in a Tai Chi Striking Art at age 30. I’ve studied BJJ to Blue Belt and sparred the Tai Kwon Do artists on Friday night. That was my truth teller- They could kick me in the head as well as punching me. I loved it and learned so much. I’m a Southpaw and generally circled counter clockwise. My favorite combos are a double right jab, left cross to the face and then looking for body targets. My combo for a taller opponent (I’m 6’3”) -exactly what you recommended- Left cross to the solar plexus- use left shoulder to protect against the right hook, throw right rib shots with impunity! Thanks so much Tony- You’re a great boxing/self defense teacher- clear instruction 😊
As a beginner, I gotta say : Incredible video. I train in a collective gym, boxing courses are great but it's mass teaching so coaches can't completely follow everyone individually. This video completes what I've been learning so far. My main problem is stiffness though, any tips on being more "relaxed" ? It's quite problematic for long range hooks as they end up being weak
If you mean stiffness in the body always stretch mate before and after training.. not just stretching your arms and legs, do good long stretches. you’ll find videos on TH-cam and you’ll feel loose and brand new after doing it. Stiffness in the punches just breath relax and keep calm, focus on the tech work you do.. we are all learning something everyday step by step that’s the beauty of the sport.. knowledge is power, literally 😂
The video I was searching for, I start boxing in a few months and I got myself a heavy bag to work with on my own time at home, I’ll be working on everything you’ve shown in this video prior to me stepping foot in the boxing gym, I appreciate the time to spent to create this video, cheers mate!
Not only the best intro to boxing ever, but quite literally one of the best most accessible videos of all time. The time stamps and categorization really shows the effort you put into this. Well done.
Excellent video, Tony. Very structured system, clear and understandable instructions. In former USSR, I had a rank of Candidate to Master of Sport in boxing, and Black Belt in karate. Saying that, I just want to emphasize that Your Boxing Tutorial makes my current, none-competitive training much more efficient and enjoyable. Great video, great tutorial, thank you very much, Tony.
I'm an ailing 47 year old man who's never boxed but I can't believe how much this all relates to the Karate classes I did as a kid. The stances, foot work and punching techniques are very relatable and can easily be transferred to boxing.
We can see why you became a Olympic medalist.......your video tutorial has given me confidence and has cleared almost all my doubts.....you helped in fine tuning my shots....AND I CAN SEE THE POWER COMING OUT EFFORTLESSLY. I WILL REMEMBER YOUR VIDEOS FOR MY LIFETIME......your effort and time has helped many....Thank you 👍🤩🤩 From 🇮🇳
Thank you so much for such a detailed and involved lesson. I am an Indian from the capital (Delhi) I won the state gold, to represent my state in the the nationals. (Also a national gold medalist in karate in 2015 govt. run, and invitational gold in 8 countries). My parents didn't let me attend the nationals for boxing as they clashed with 12grade exams (huge deal in India). So looking at your videos has really helped me mentally, I am able to see where all I could have improved on. I am currently a computer software engineering, but still a boxer at heart.
hello Tony. found this very inspiring and helpful. I love your work. I was thinking very seriously these days to make my childhood dream come true and join a boxing club. Thing is, I am 54 years old... Honestly now...do you think it's too late for me to start this? And I don't mean just for fitness I would love to learn Boxing on a ring!
I've been taking in alot of your videos and I must say you're an amazing teacher. You break everything down intuitively, explain things clearly, and get right to the point. Also the work you put into these videos (small animations drawing lines to show punch and or stance lines) as well as where to navigate in the timeline to different topics is very much appreciated as a viewer but I know that doesn't make your life easier putting it together. Honestly, these videos are some of my favorite to view and apply as I have recently started training/exercising at home (in Ontario Canada and were locked down). Thank you Tony.
My little boy started his boxing journey last week. Thanks to you Tony, and this video that you have made, he is not only learning how to box but also his confidence is growing. We’re going over the footwork daily as he is dyspraxic and so balance is a real challenge but coach Tony is helping with that (his words, not mine haha)
I just started to do boxing for my fitness aboutg a month ago and I just did almost all of these all natural, feeling the movement and the balance of my Body. Now, seeing you, talking about the same thing amazes me and gave me confidence that what I am doing I am doing correctly. I would love to improve my head movement to the peek a boo style as I find it very effective to me because i have quick reactions. I will keep training until i feel confident enough to enter my first real fight as I am looking forward to it.
Fighting on Friday, will be my 1st Amateur bout! Felt I was lacking some basics but this cleared it all up for me! Great technical points from a great boxer and instructor!🥊
Tony ,this is the greatest video. A piece of advice to all boxing fans, specially beginners: don't watch this video only once, there are a lot, a ton actually,of very useful information. By the way Tony, your boxing DNA double-crossed you at 47:10 😊. Head movement is something you can't take out.Even if you try ,muscle memory will be there to remind you... Keep up the good work Champ, you are really helping people! And the sport we love... Thank you!
There are virtuoso guitarists playing in their bedrooms around the world, the volume and quality of which is unsurpassed in any era in history, thanks to access to frree online education, information nd tuition. I think the same must be true of boxing, thanks to such incredible information as demonstrated here by Mr Jeffries. What a brilliant video. Thank you, sir!

Amazing! I'm just started training Muay Thai since the begining of the year, but this video rly opens my mind about many ideas. Thank you so much for that!
I mentioned on another "boxing" instructional vlog...that we have added Boxing into our daughters Volleyball Strength and Agility... This has opened the door to a bit of razzing and snarky comments. I can tell you the boxing footwork & punching the bag has increased her quickness and shoulder / trap & scapula strength. She learned a valuable lesson about jumping rope as well..."always wear shoes" Tony. Thank you so much, we have watched several of your tutorials.... ..the emphasis on technique has helped immensely
Thanks for this Tony. It’s amazing the amount of knowledge you are sharing. Congrats on an amazing career boxing and here’s to a long career as a trainer!
I really appreciate this video, the time it took to edit and produce it, and the organization of building a ground up. I have had a mixture of combatives training over the years, but I am just starting to appreciate traditional standup boxing as a life saver. In my work, I can’t usually afford to go to the ground as I’m always going to be out numbered and under backed up. If I go to the ground, I’m more likely to have to go to a weapon. Thanks for putting out this great content and all of the thoughts behind it. Might have saved a life (mine or some dummy who I can keep from the room temp challenge). V/r SN
Best online instructor in the world. People are legit blessed to have all of this information from a seasoned boxer available in it's entirety, all accessible for everyone to be able to learn and improve their craft. I've been following your channel for a few years now and each video not only gives me that increased Ring IQ but motivates me to constantly better myself. Thanks to your videos I've been able to start coaching my brother on boxing and seeing him improve each session is a result of your videos. Big up yourself Jaffa
Wow.... I literally practice as you were teaching, thanks so so much sensei, this is the best boxing lesson one could ever wish for, with this I could become a prof, more blessings 🙏 I will keep watching this everyday till I master every technique. This is a masterpiece 🔥
This may be long winded, and you didn't ask, but I'd like to give you my best advice anyways. I'm no expert, but I've been boxing for around 6 years with a few amateur bouts behind me. Start off light, get a good partner who isn't going to try and take your head off. Within 3 classes of your weight is ideal, but it's okay to go with a bigger guy if you know he's well mannered. Make sure YOU are not punching too hard either. Sparring is for learning, not fighting. Do some drills to get used to punches being thrown so you can get over flinching; my personal favorite is to put up a high guard while a partner throws light punches on your guard, trying to keep your eyes open the whole time. It's not perfect, but it'll make it easier to get over the initial fear. Always remember that you're looking to improve, and finding flaws in your game isn't a bad thing. Listen to your peers and take criticism, though try to avoid listening to people who clearly have no idea what they're talking about, I suspect you'll run into plenty of those if you're going to even a semi-popular gym. Keep yourself in good health, and as I'm sure Tony himself would vouch, protect your hands. Eat right, sleep well, and stay disciplined. Make sure you're sparring in proper gear, feel free to ask me if you need more info on that, I'll refrain from it for now because it'd be a novel. Good luck, I hope I've helped you in some way.

Thanks so much Tony-
You’re a great boxing/self defense teacher- clear instruction 😊
You probably don’t know me but good luck man 🫡
You're a damn good teacher, I like how you break everything down and explain why you doing it at the same time. A lot of coaches don't do that.

This is crazy dude. Thanks Tony for the detailed tutorial. I'm a huge fan!
@coco37s here a tip you can use the soles or balls on your feet.
What more can I ask from a legend...! Love from India 💙

Excellent video, Tony. Very structured system, clear and understandable instructions. In former USSR, I had a rank of Candidate to Master of Sport in boxing, and Black Belt in karate. I'm an ailing 47 year old man who's never boxed but I can't believe how much this all relates to the Karate classes I did as a kid. The stances, foot work and punching techniques are very relatable and can easily be transferred to boxing.

I can't hit the left hook repeatedly I would appreciate it if you post a video about it
Learning boxing by myself at home, been having some difficult to learn some punches and moves, but i'm improving step by step... your job is amazing!
I'm speechless 🔥🔥🔥🔥 can you do a video on how to be good at sparrrring
