The Calif. Zephyr #6 in Ft. Morgan on 11JULY2024

- The EAST bound California Zephyr #6 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0737 MDT (11 Hrs. & 21 Min. late due to a fatal derailment and then a reroute in eastern Nevada across the Great Salt Lake and then into SLC). P42s #39 & #15 were the power for this 8-car consist that included a baggage car lettered for the "Polar Express". The train was stopped with car 7 to the parking area platform for 3 departing passengers. Ther were no new fares for #6.
With the station work safely completed, Sam gave the high ball and on a "delayed in block, Green on the screen" the Zephyr departed for its next stop at McCook, NE and other points east to Chicago.

Well today I see that the zephyr got in there late. And didn't sound like there was anyone getting on and off according to the comments here. Anyway I'm enjoying my summer vacation off from working at the school. Just laying around all day long doing what I want. Have a great day Mike
Morning Mike. And an unusual one it is! #6 coming out of the west, now? When it should be headed east from Omaha?!. This is an interesting occurrence due to an "event" on the old Western Pacific line between Elko and Salt Lake. I wonder what that was. It's nice to hear the chorus chirping away, and the guys banging away across the tracks. A quick stop and on her way east. Looks funny to see the Zephyr disappearing into the sun! Good afternoon, Phil; The info I read about the event out west was a UP manifest struck a car, and a fatality was incurred as well as a derailment of that train. The passengers got some rare milage on that train. They were slowed down again east of Grand Junction for some reason. I did watch #6 descent the Big 10 Curves west of Denver proper.
There were some birds hanging around this morning. Not as many as in days past. And industrial noise. What would we do without it? LOL!

What was the meaning of “Delayed in block, green on the screen “?
That was a reply to the conductor that a clear signal wasn't displayed on the signal mast at East Ft. Morgan CP but the in-cab signals were indicating green or clear. As the Zephyr got to the signal mast it did change to a clear signal for them.
Nice birds chirping & someone whistling- I can’t whistle. TY for 6. I saw 6 & 4 together at GBB. A rarity. Time for 4 at Lap- take care.
Good morning, Cheryl; I thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. The birds were a bit on the loud side this morning. I didn't catch the whistling as that fits into the range I cannot her due to the tinnitus. Oh well. I did see that marriage of #4 to #6 and their departure from Galesburg yesterday. Interesting as AMTRAK original plan was to do that with #3 & #5 leaving Chicago. Oh well. Gotta do a few things at the house before it gets hotter.

Oh never mind I was watching another video where some other train maybe it was trained 6 that was super late. I'm confused I laid around the house and was doing nothing all day so pardon my confusion.
Darn,both 5 and 6 are chronically late!

Good afternoon, Ben; Thanks for stopping by as well as the comments. I'll take your 88 F but keep the humidity please. It is 96 here as I write this. (1352 local). I thought about getting my ticker punched but forgot to bring it. LOL! Nope. My first coffee was gone before this train appeared. Marne & I had more at Zazzy's after the train. And I worked on another pot while taking care of a couple of projects at the house. Then it got hot, and I reverted to good ole water. As for the data on the derailments, what I had came from AMTRAK's main web site and a heads up from a viewer yesterday.
Anyway, I have many to answer.

Wow…an extremely rare video of an EASTBOUND Zephyr at Ft. Morgan due to yesterday’s derailment in Somonauk, IL. Thanks Mike. (note to BNSF…Ft. Morgan really needs a visit by the weed spraying train!).

I thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. #5 is delayed due to the derailment in Illinois. #6 is late due to a derailment that had a fatal in eastern Nevada yesterday. I agree about the weed sprayer MOW train. Too late in the season now. It will make a great crop for next year.

I noticed early that number 5 was creeping along in western Iowa about to cross into Plattsmouth. Not sure why number 5 was running so far behind either. Have a great Thursday out your way Sir! That derail caused the #6 and many UP trains to use the Lucian Cutoff across the southern end of the Great Salt Lake and then come south into Salt Lake City. Some rare milage for the passengers. AMTRAK had it posted yesterday on their main web site. That's where I read about the chaos in Illinois between Mendota and Naperville. A derailment there that caused the #5 & #3 trains to depart Chicago around 1945 last night. That train should be here just after noon local. It is west of McCook, NE now. It was stopped at Pacific Junction just east of I-29 for BNSF freight traffic to clear.
Anyway, all should be nearer to advertised schedules today.

Good morning and thanks for dropping by. That was for the south side crossing arm that dropped without sound and lights. A signal maintainer of my acquaintance was informed over a cup of coffee about 4 minutes after I folded up the camera and made it to Zazzy's. I am sure Clint will check it out. I thought I caught it on cam but was zoomed past it.
It just messed up traffic a little more than it was.
Our Main St is closed thru the business district for a musical event this weekend featuring "Three Dog Night" as the headliners.

Good morning Mike. Priority that we see Mike photographing train number six. Looks like you have a chance to get two trains today kind of sad day around Albuquerque for us. Yep. I don't get to see these trains in daylight and so close together. I did watch their meet in western Nebraska a few minutes ago on the tracker map. #5 should be here just after 1200 local. Meanwhile, I have completed most of the to do list at the hacienda for now. I am sure there is more that can wait for another day.
From what I have seen there isn't a cloud anywhere nearby. The temp is still climbing, and the humidity has fallen toward single digit range. We go triple digits tomorrow and thru at least the weekend.
