      The R is probably going to last you like 10 more years. I mean honestly, what more can cameras really do? Picture quality isn't getting any better, does good video.
      Now if you're just getting your first camera, I'd say yhe R6 but if you've already got a camera as late as the R, then you're fine right now.
      I mean, Canon 6D OG still has some of the best picture images all time and that was made in the 2010s.

    I consider upgrading from the R every once in a while, but it's still better suited for me than anything than came after it. The R5 is objectively better, but you really have to NEED those features to make the price worth it and I just don't. The R has fallen out of favor since it's older now, but it's one monster of a stills camera for the price.

    Great review dude 😀Added a sub. People seem to be panicking over R8 not having IBIS where I think that the digital stab does a better job anyway. Had the R6 with the weird warping when trying to use the IBIS with wide angle lens - the R8 with the digital one produced much better results - especially with the Canon 16-35mm f2.8. Even better if you've got lens stabilisation + digital. If you need a proper stabilisation in shots there's no way around a gimbal.
    As for battery - adding a battery grip totally solved that for me. Also an USB-C battery pack did an amazing job.

    Loved this video, it hit on so many levels with what I am currently contemplating for my next move to shoot video with the vintage lenses I have supplemented with some of the EOS lenses I have for shots I need autofocus with. I like that there are a few affordable RF lenses for hobos that don't jave $3k to spend on new lenses for a new system. Sony a7sIII is definitely a target camera I know would perform well but it is out or reach at the moment and if I wait till I find one used for a decent price we may be living in an appocoliptice world with no more digital media and we may have reverted back to filming on 8mm mechanical cameras in the post skynet wastelands. I have a 42 inch 4K monitor. The 4K is clearly nicer. The Zeis Lens on the R8 had much better colors. The RF 50mm T1.8 looked more washed out. Now, we don't always want the "skittles" look, but it looked nice in the clip. Apparently, the R8 does not know how to find close things, unless you choose subject detection. The R8 at 4K had brighter colors. Especially in fall that is nice. Might be freaky in the high desert. Glowing green cacti? You should send the Action 4 to MarcusPix. I bet he never got a nice present from somebody, despite how nice he is.

      @@harrison00xXx I’m glad you had a good time but remember “just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should” my comment was based on his focusing issues and what I was referring to from Canon was “During servo AF, only RF lenses and some EF lenses can be used for continuous shooting at the maximum speed.” RF lenses are designed differently to EF lenses, glass is glass but there is technology involved here and most RF camera users will know they don’t play well with non RF lenses

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shauneverywhere Are you talking now about photo or video when you talk about servo AF?
      I didnt find any issues using EF lenses on my RP or my R7, and by using vintage glass the camera shoots anyways full speed (bursts) since the aperture is controlled manually/physically (and the camera doesnt know anything about the lens, no electronic contacts)
      You might talk about the very negliable issue on the R8 which only affects EFCS/"mechanical" in theory but since the R8s EFCS speed is abysmal, there wont be any slowdown.
      And the slowdown we are talking about is on my R7 like 7-8 fps vs 15 fps, 7 fps is more than enough, and in fact even my Sigma 150-600C, 3rd party EF lens allows for shooting 15 fps mechanically/EFCS.
      The "issue" with EF/DSLR lenses is much less than you might think. The biggest issue... you lose the mirrorless advantages such as smaller, less complicated optical formulas and smaller formfactor.

    Hey Kasey. You can just buy a cheap 40bucks grip for R8. The grips made for RP fits perfectly fine on R8. Put 2 genuine batteries inside and voila.. You have better grip..better battery life.. R8 is a crazy good camera both for video and stills. The false color is a game changer. Even the semi pro Sony video cameras didn't have it inside. Unlike the histogram it stays on while recording. Just the false color is enough to pick this camera over any Sony. Super easy to get the correct exposure every time. Unbelieve camera for the money!
    Edit: There is also a workaround for the curtain to be closed while changing lenses. You can go to the menu and choose manuel sensor clean and while doing so shut down the camera. Now you have the curtain closed on the sensor while changing the lens.
    Edit2: The digital stab is amazing as you said. I think IBIS is only handful for stills and if you need it R6 m2 is there but for video no need for the jerky ibis help in Canon.
    Edit3: Yes the Canon video codec is hard to edit on most PCs. But buttery smooth with any mac with m1 or m2.
    Edit4 (lol) : This camera also has much much better rolling shutter performance than most of the other 4k cameras out there. You don't need to get afraid while moving your camera fast :))
    Why would I choose a Sony ZV-E1 or even A7s3 over this camera? Maybe a little more dynamic range. But terrible screen at daylight , no viewfinder on mot of them and no false color will eventually force you to buy an external monitor. I am not that much geek sorry :) I will not rig my camera to look pro :)) I am pretty sure R8 will sell a lot.. Canon did great this time!

    I hate that the R8 uses those tiny batteries. I was hoping for a budget full frame camera to accompany my R7. I thought the R8 would be it, being toted as an EOS R replacement which uses the same LPEN6H. Alas, it was not to be.

    I have had the EOS R since it came out. I have always used 4K. I used a Canon 16-35 4L. The video is very good. I have never understood why people didn’t want to use a wide lens can complained about the EOSR 4K. Silly. The 50mm 1.8 RF lens is not in the same league as the Canon 16-35mm 4L. Your test was not a fair comparison. A cheap lens versus a good lens.

    Switching to the R8 at 4:40 was bad, dunno if it's a grading issue, but the OG R looked far better. I was considering 'upgrading' to the R8 but the battery is a killer for me, but I guess the R6 Mk2 was really the intended upgrade path for OG R users, that, or the R5/C

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery is one of the least things you should care about the R8, a tiny powerbank allows to run the camera via powerbank or charge the battery in off position.
      Also, a single spare battery always charged is enough to be honest beside a "used" battery in the camera, the only issue could be the charging later... in camera only and it takes a while

    • @wandiloch
      @wandiloch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harrison00xXx yea I forgot about the power bank, but it's a bit of a faff and not exactly weather proof. I think it's a great camera, but as with most canon cameras, the cripple hammer needs to hit somewhere 😂

    Canon only has 3 EOS cameras that can record Video in ALL-I, the rest record Video in IPB.
    They’re the EOS R3, EOS R5 and yes!! the EOS R.
    The EOS R records 4K cropped ALL-I video!, it can also record IPB video.
    ALL-I has lower compression rate than IPB.

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว

      Lower compression rate, yes, but its only "visible" (if at all...) under very heavy and unexpected movements when you pixel peep frame by frame. IPB is just fine, in fact i use on my EOS R7 often even IPB light (about half the data so 2x more compression!)

    • @LatinPerspective.
      @LatinPerspective. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harrison00xXx :“in fact i use on my EOS R7 often even IPB light”
      IPB is super compressed, hard to playback/edit files, ALL-I frame is better.
      When I record video, I'm going to want the highest quality camera native clips.
      Canon eos R give you a choice “ALL-I or IPB”…… EOS R7 doesn’t!!!

    Apart from the Canon R, Is there any other mid-range Canon camera that supports the ALL-I compression mode ?
    This feature is rarely mentioned by reviewers and people giving commentaries, although it affects the quality of the videos.
    A pity that the ALL-I option has not been retained on the Canon R6. You have to pay extra cash for it on the Canon R5.

    I ran into this problem when editing video on my PC (hahaha who would do that instead of using a vastly superior Mac M2?). It really struggles with 10bit. Previous gen Intel chips really struggle with modern video files. I couldn't edit high bitrate video from my Lumix GH6 on my very expensive laptop with Intel. Had to use my Mac Mini M1, handled it with ease.

      Dont worry, 16GB Ram M1 Pro user here, the 1080p files are ok to edit, no issues with running out of ram (into swap, bad for the SSD) but 4k files of any kind of Canon mirrorless newer than R/RP... hard times. Decently fast and smooth in FCP, but a mess for AI denoising and stabilisation (where i would need 24, better 32GB Ram)
