- 🇱🇹 As the USSR entered its final stages, law and order began to break down and there began a period which has since been called the period of 'Bandit Capitalism'. This was a period when gangs protected by tough sambo fighters and boxers from the different republics began to form and to exploit the new riches that were to be found in the burgeoning capitalist era. One of those gangs was known as the Vilnius Gang which had a fierce reputation in Lithuania and further afield.
I have always been fascinated by that short period of history and how those gangs operated and so when I was invited into a former member of the Vilnius Gang's home, well I of course accepted. Fortunately my bodyguard @JohnnyFD was with me. This would possibly be the night he would earn his usual $7 fee.
Thanks to everyone at Azerai cafe in Vilnius who allowed us to film the evening ( best food in Vilnius and Soviet vibes ) and huge thanks to Tadeus and Anastasia for their hospitality and the Soviet presents. Was a pleasure meeting you all.

I think in general, the more comfortable you look or feel (because it’s difficult to act like you’re comfortable) the higher your status .
Feeling comfortable in a situation, place, meeting etc..comes from experience . So the more experienced you are the more comfortable you feel and you tend to have a higher status.
That's one of the reasons Ben can draw people in as he does. There's something magnetic about a person that is in comfortable in any situation, the location and language be damned.

As Lithuanian I can tell that you showed Lithuania in the most epic colors. You could choose any place to go and any people to meet but your choice was in "Azerai" to eat and Gibonas to drink with. Love your channel. I'm Lithuanian and I know that you're very interested in USSR art and history. Close to the border with Belarus there's a town called Druskininkai where there is a park called Gruto parkas. This is where all the original USSR statues from every city in Lithuania ended up and more. Highly worth your visit.... more Soviet than you've ever seen in Russia. Enjoy!

The reason these videos are SO amazing is that Bald takes such an non-judgemental interest in the people that he meets, that we get real insight into some characters and their stories that we would never, ever get to learn about otherwise.
I wish I had his gift for drawing people in, because all these people he meets are endlessly facinating
Think it shows the power of speaking someone else's language. If more Americans spoke Spanish, for example, and not just those who speak it because of their parents then there would be much more empathy.

I’m currently in Lithuania. Went to Azerai yesterday and met all the guys bald shows in the video. Was a cool experience to meet them, they were friendly and welcoming. Tadeus was more than happy to get a picture

Recently found Bald and Bankrupt and honestly I can’t say I’ve enjoyed watching a channel more. Such wonderful no nonsense content where you have good time, learn a bit history and meet the real down to earth locals and the lives they lead in each respective country. My best friend of 10 years Mindaugas and I were going to go on a trip to Lithuania and his home city of Vilnius... It's been over a year now since he passed. I work 12 hours in a factory here in the UK so that one day I can visit and be closer to him. Thank you bald, this video emanates his energy and makes me feel that much closer.

A few years ago I was befriended in Vilnius by some friendly local men who took me on a great pub crawl. Plenty of beers Vodka and good eats in cheap workers' bars. As a Welshman, I started singing in Welsh and they loved it! All great fun! What a fantastic country to visit!
