      Yes, this is sadly why a lot of people who get in shape or get plastic surgery STILL feel "ugly" inside...

    • @johnqa
      @johnqa ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JulienHimselfIt reminds me of Maxwell Maltz's (a plastic surgeon) writing about this subject. Even when people get surgery they may still feel ugly because of their own self-image. Probably the reason she feels this way and struggles to see differently or articulate about it is because it's the only thing she knows (familiarization) and has been taught about her own beauty as a person.

    Hey Julian, super powerful video once again! I would like to add something though about the loving ourselves part and the love/validation we crave from our parents. I totally agree that as a grown up adult on a logical level we don't depend (anymore) on the love of our parents to feel "worthy" or good enough. When we were kids though we did (we were depend and needed the love and care) The thing I believe is that our body has a hard time integrating it when it's not laser specific to the exact moment when this feeling occurred for the first time in our childhood (all our feelings have a deep root, and then it starts to build up from there) I think the gap that takes place between "understanding" it and really "releasing" the trapped energy of childhood can be prevented by really connecting specifically to the past event where we felt like that for the first time. By doing so we can free ourselves from this illusion that is keeping us trapped in the present as an adult (still feeling these past programs that don't serve us anymore). Hope it makes sense, I feel I only scratched the surface here, but that is ok. Thanks again for the amazing work, keep going it's so helpful!!

    Beauty comes from within, the body is merely a shell. The contents are more important than the packaging.
    You are your own person, you're unique, one of a kind, and that's something to celebrate. Don't hide it, but own it. You are unique and don't let anyone take that away from you, not your friends, relatives or workmates. If others don't like you then you're mixing with the wrong people. Not a problem, there's a billion others out there. Be proud of your individuality, your uniqueness, and stand tall. It what makes you so special.

    Great job dude, millennials have suffered way too much because of poor parenting to say the least. But we’re so fortunate therapy and psychology exist so we have a chance to see who we truly are, find love, both internal and external, and live a normal life. Something a lot of the parents who fucked up so badly raising us will never be able to do.

  • @naturalebeing

    That’s an interesting shadow question because I feel I do have the approval of both of my parents. My childhood was rough but as an adult and with my dad being 2 years sober, I can say that both my parents are very accepting of me. I’m so lucky for that. They give me grace to find my way and they believe in me and support me. I don’t feel like I need either of their approval, I feel like I have it.

      really? no homo? maybe u could do some shadow work on that. Here some suggestions for things you could ask yourself..why is being homosexual something that you feel the need to distance yourself from? are u afraid people might think you are gay just because you express love for a male human being? what about homosexuality is so bad that u feel the urge to distance yourself from it? are u afraid that people might judge you, just like u judge gay people?

    • @yordanangelov8085

    • @Graigshooter
      @Graigshooter ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yordanangelov8085 explain the joke to me then, because I love a good gay joke. Maybe I am not getting the punchline. To me it seems like you are being homophobic by implication. Clearly you feel the need to distance yourself from being perceived as gay/therefore being gay is something negative. Which also makes you look really insecure about your sexuality and how others perceive you. Then you react to criticism with gaslighting, minimizing your actions and then blame-shifting and attacking my character that you know nothing about. Which again makes you look insecure and immature i might add. How about taking accountability for your words like a grownup instead? or i don't know, learning?

    this was great, i started t getting emotional l because it was diggin into me.
    a bit unrelated to this video : im fascinated by juliens story on how shy he says he was, or socially awkward.
    thats me my whole life, and I dont really want to be like that... i jumped out of my bedroom window once because i didnt want to face all the guest that my parents had over for dinner, i got caught anyways and it was so embarrassing.
    im not too bad like that now, but I resist the hardest to be in social settings. I break a sweat sweat when people call me as I try and think of an excuse before answering the phone ( if i do answer ) so that I can escape what they want me to do, or not go to where they are inviting me to.
    I can visualize myself doing what Julien does, helping others, because i used to think i was the only one.

      To be fair, parents having guests in the house where you are trapped doesn't count as a social setting (for the kid). You were just forced to interact. Because it's not a genuine social event, it has nothing to do with social anxiety or awkwardness if you didn't like going through that.

    When I tell myself I'm good enough some part resists in me that says that I'm quirky, weird and defective and compromised etc. It is scary to tell myself that because if I could drop these labels, what remains? Do I have anything to latch on to when I just 'am', wouldn't that make me vulnerable?

    • @serenitygoodwyn
      @serenitygoodwyn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are perfect as you are quirky, weird and defective. That isn't a bad thing.

    • @MissLida
      @MissLida ปีที่แล้ว

      Whatever good or bad identity you formed, it's still just a shell based on others' opinions that you are holding on to in order to make sense of where you fit into the world (and also sets your "limitations"!) Truthfully, you just are and that is authentic!! We just appear on this earth and in a second of time dissapear again. It's as if we are here to just observe and try to make sense of this reality for a bit but no one ever has it figured out. It's a process of trial and error and figuring out what you personally value and care about vs what you think isn't serving you as far as your identity goes. Not holding on too tightly to any labels. Being defective as an identity can make you feel sorry for yourself and play the role of a victim or martyr, but it doesn't serve you moving forward with goals. Labels of "weird or quirky" might help you make sense of past rejections, but it could also be your unique form of self expression and maybe it isn't really quirky, weird, good, or bad. Maybe it's just different from the people you are normally around. Really though, identities are very limiting and not very honest when you think about it.

    Hello guys.
    I used to be a happy kid but I was getting bullied by the other kids for being awkward as they were telling me. As the years went by I became more and more introverted. When I went to the Army (Mandatory in my country) it was the same the other guys were picking on me and I told our superiors but they sided with them instead. After I finished my Army services I chose to remain there and work. I was always criticised by my superiors, ridiculised in front of many, wronged,punished. Everybody makes mistakes I guess, but what if only your mistakes matter? I decided to quit after a major disagreement. I went on to seek a career in aviation. I got the highest mark of my class at the test but still I dont view it as an accomplishment and my confidence didnt increase at all. I applied for multiple airlines to hire me but to no avail. I also got rejected at an open day for a specific airline. They favoured some other guys from my group who weren't as invested as me. Recently, I've been ruminating. Where all those guys right about me? I'm I an idiot? I'm I always wrong?

Is this better, healthier and the best way? Thank you

    • @MissLida
      @MissLida ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes mushrooms can help you get in touch with your shadow. I would set an intention and have a journal next to you while you trip but often things pop up that you didn't even know you needed. Personally it helped me realize how judgemental and controlling I was of myself and of others (from my own trauma). It also helps breaks the chains of feeling stuck in a certain brain pattern and see things with a new set of eyes. You can do this work sober but I think psychedelics helps a lot if you sit with yourself

They're already happy and satisfied as default. See the world as it is, and we as is, so they don't understand why someone want to be something or want to prove they're alive. What's your take on that?

    I wish I had someone in my life who would ask me these kinds of questions, or someone who I can ask these questions to. 99% of the people out there take offense to these adversarial inquiries and it's honestly loathesome. Sometimes I do as well, and that's because I'm stuck in my persona.

      But would they be so nice if they weren’t insecure or is their niceness just a compensation of their insecurity?? Like the saying goes, if you wanna see someone for who they really are, give them power. I’m willing to bet most of those nice insecure people wouldn’t be nice at all if some magic genie just deleted their insecurities. They’re only nice BECAUSE they’re insecure.
