  • Apple Pencil TIP COVER vs SCREEN PROTECTOR
Here I test and review some Apple Pencil tip covers and compare the concept to matt screen protectors. Apple pencil tip wear can be a problem, but how is the drawing experience of a pencil tip cover in comparison?

Thanks for your review, I didn't know about the tip option before seeing your video, I think its a great option for me especially as I purely want it to make drawing on my iPad a bit nicer. Its just a hobby for me so I even with the rubbishcurrancy conversation AUD, those 5 tips are going to lasts very long time. Also compare that price to the paperlike pencil grip, that bit of rubber or silicone costs $60 USD for x2 plus shipping, now that's a rip-off, €18 for x5 is nothing compared with that. I very much want to improve my drawing, so will be subscribing to your channel, cheers from Australia.😋 I do agree that a sharper pointed tip would be an improvement, assuming it doesn't wear down significantly faster.

I've ordered the Artist Clssic set, $71 + $10 delivery AUD, pretty good I think considering that's for a 5x pack of tips, 1x pencil grip and 1x drawing glove. Compare that with the paperlike pencil grip that costs $60 USD so probably $80 AUD plus delivery for 2x.

Thanks for this! I found that I really needed a matt screen protector to deal with the slippery quality of the iPad but I do get annoyed at the loss of visual quality AND how it makes the touch experience worse (meaning, when using my fingers, I have to push harder than I otherwise would). Here's a silly question: WHY DOESN'T APPLE JUST SELL AN ALTERNATE TIP FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT SOME RESISTANCE??? It could be rubber or felt or whatever and one could simply screw it on in place of the standard tip (rather than on top of it thus making it blunter). Seriously, Apple spends so much time and energy marketing the iPad to artists yet they won't provide this simple solution which Microsoft has been doing for years with their Surface Pens. Do they WANT people to cover up a great screen with a textured protector that washes out the colors?

A pencil with such a tip would absolutely destroy an unprotected screen. Yes, you could use a protective glass on the ipad, but apple cares only for the vanilla experience, thus they won’t care for that option.

I say much needed because while there's a lot of artists talking about the paper like matte screen options, I've yet to see anyone on my artist list talking about these. My issue has been that I don't want something to alter the screen, especially since I'm pretty much used to the glass anyway, but maybe something for the pen like these nibs (I have seen their ads, but very few reviews). I might actually go for them when I have some extra money to spare since it's easy to slip them on and off, so I'd leave em off for sketching and on for painting/coloring :) You've certainly made my idea of them a whole lot clearer!!

I am using a matte screen protector (because I like the texture and I want the anti glare function to protect my eyes) but combined that with the apple pencil (no rubber cover) I realised that the matte screen wears down the tip at a quick rate and I wish I had watched your video before this happened. So, I got myself the cheap rubber cover and yes, when used with matte it feels really draggy, I don't think I have the patience for my art process with this amount of resistance. At this point my priorities are protecting my ipad screen and reducing the wear and tear rate of the apple pencil tip, so I'm thinking about trying out the tempered glass screen protector. Thank you for your video!

I prefer the screen protector for 2 separate reasons. Yes, you do have more control vs just glass, but also I find it manages fingerprints much better than without. I still have an older iPad I use for media consumption and I find myself cleaning it constantly because of fingerprints, something you don't notice as much with a screen protector.

I use the paper like 2. I tried inexpensive matte screen protectors but it felt like drawing on gravel. The paper like 2 uses a different type of method of making the texture that doesn’t distort the screen much. I like that it also diffuses light a bit (not as much as a standard one) to cut glare. It feels a bit like sketching on standard note paper.
I haven’t noticed much wear on my pencil nib, but realize that the screen cover is a disposable art supply and will wear out.
The screen even takes on the look of a paper book. It’s odd to say but sometimes I forget it’s an iPad. I’ve shown it to people who aren’t iPad users and they think it’s paper at first. (Sitting on a table)

I have tried these tips. I didn’t want to go for something that would lower the quality so I discarded the thoughts of the screen protector but now I’m coming to it. It’s okay for a while but at the end of the day it’s rubber and it does bend and loose it’s shape quite a bit. One of the things I also noticed that it doesn’t really give me much fluidity…?? If you’re into the whole experience I can tell you that it’s not really going to be satisfying at all. And I honestly just put them away because I’d rather have the sound of pencil on glass than put up with it’s draggy-ness.
But it’s all to each their own at the end of the day.

You didn’t need to spend £700-£1000 to draw. You could of just bought some paper and a pencil set for probably £10 quid.😂😂😂
That’s what apple have done to you all. You buy an electronic device then have to get additional accessories likepaper like to simulate drawing on paper. News flash, real paper still exists and it’s dirt cheap. This isn’t Star Trek where you can’t get good old fashion paper and lead pencils anymore.
A real artist will know nothing compares to real paints and a good canvas. This is a gimmick, nothing more. A novelty not a substitute for the real thing. Try turning in some artwork to your teacher, made from the iPad and see how that turns out😂😂😂😂
Apple are taking the piss with so many of you, like with their new £600 dollar leather over the ear head phones😂😂😂. Any audiophile will tell you than sound fidelity can only go so far. Think they pretty much hit that wall with beats, Bose and tech from the other leading brands and they are all cheaper than £600 dollars.
I own a iPad Air 4 and if in a moment of madness I got a 2nd gen pencil I wouldn’t be pretentious or even believe I’m creating true art, I’d acknowledge it for what is, a novelty party toy to use when your fucking board!

However, done correctly digital art can be more vibrant and more smoother then traditional art can be. Just because it isn't traditional though doesn't mean it's not art. Art is always evolving and digital art is just a new evolution of art, you don't have to like it but if someone is being creative, I believe it does make it art 😊
