I’ve been using a magnetic screen protector for a couple of months and really like it. You know you can wash them with a gentle detergent? It should remove all that dirt and return the protector to almost new.

$50?! In this economy? Yeah, no. Even with the review I thought I’d give them a try, but that’s robbery. I expected them to be like $10-12. It’s three pieces of rubber.

Ive been jumping around screen protectors. Im sick of the matte ones wearing down my pencil tips to the metal. So, got the magnetic one. I really like it. Also love just taking it off and drawing on the bare screen. The slip on pen tips aren’t for me. Too squishy. Like drawing on the Gen 1 iPad Pro with the styluses available at the time. Im also quite paranoid so ended up putting a glass screen protector on. Decided to try out the magnetic one and BOOM! It stays in place over the glass screen protector. Best of both worlds!

I'm happy to see this review - I was seriously contemplating getting them as I'd tried th silicone sleeve-tips and found them not great, and was curious to know if these were a better alternative. Looks like I'll stick to matte screen protectors until Apple decides to "do a Wacom" and release an iPad with the option of an etched glass screen.

I've been using the magnetic screen protector for three months now, and though it can get grimy, it's also easy to clean with a microfiber cloth and some screen cleaning liquid. Was curious about the pen tips 2 and I'll check them out as soon as I win the lottery. Thanks for the review!

thanks for the review! i am in an eternal struggle it seems trying to find a way to feel comfortable drawing on my ipad. i like having the texture sheets but as you said, they dull the colors. and cheap or expensive, they wear down fast and scratch easy and i can feel it in my own strokes. likewise, i also hate the rubber caps which let me feel every bit of dust on my screen. even the replacement tips are so hit or miss, I've had to return a few just because they made my pen accuracy unusable.
the hunt continues! id look forward to any other pen or screen modifications you'd care to do in the future!

  • @willhill5361

I use both a paperlike protector and the pen tips 2. I started off using the slip on pen tips and backed the kickstarter for the pen tips 2. With a (now slightly worn, but crucially, not scratched because of the soft tips) paperlike and the soft pen tips 2, the tips wear through pretty quick. I’m down to my last one after using them on maybe a total of 10 pieces.
Now, I push real hard when I draw, and the folks at pen tips seem like they made the hard version just for me so I pre-ordered those. They just shipped last week so I haven’t gotten them yet, but if they last a long time, and as Brad says, if the hard ones feel just like the soft ones, I’m a life long pen tips customer. It just feels amazing to draw with for me. Pen tips + paperlike is an unparalleled drawing experience in my view.

Both pen tips wore out the same day, and the glove is poorly made unraveling the same day. Also the pen tips 2 wore down to the metal and scratched my screen protector. Not user error either. I tried a magnetic screen protector and while I didn't mind the duller colors, the textured feel was a bridge too far for me. It felt way too rough. I'm actually fine with drawing with the stock Apple Pencil tip on hard glass, but since my last one got scratched, I'm now looking into softer tips for the Pencil. I'm not about to pay $50 for them though...so I'm looking into other brands.

The best thing I've found for drawing on bare glass is a felt nib. I have both an ipad pro and samsung tab s8 ultra - and on the latter I use a Wacom One Pen with one of the felt nibs for the Pro Pen 2. It's the closest to natural feeling on bare glass that I've found - definitely better than any rubber nib. That said, much like Brad's preference, nothing quite matches the feeling of drawing with a harder nib on a textured or etched glass surface. Most recently I've actually been using these titanium alloy nibs on my Wacom Pro Pen 2 - I got sick of replacing the nibs and they feel really similar to a ballpoint pen on a textured surface

I mostly use my iPad for annotating PDFs in GoodNotes. I absolutely have use both a Paperlike AND Pentips to get neat handwriting. For drawing I take the Pentip off. I don't really like the residue that the tips leave on the screen, but I guess it's a small price to pay for proper handwriting.
Sadly the regular pentips interfere with those silicone sleeves that you can put on the Apple Pencil to make it more comfortable to hold. It looks like that wouldn't be a problem with the new ones. I would really like to test the hard version of the new pentips, but it's a little bit difficult to justify spending like 50 bucks on tiny rubber tips 😅

I’d say comparing those things alone, Apple still has pen tips 2 beat. For 50 bucks, give me 5 pen tips at the least and free shipping. Then reviews consider the soft tips for illustrations are still going to wear out faster than apples own tips. Where’s the deal?

I spent a couple hundred dollars trying so many nibs, brands, styles, plastics, as of late and I gotta say after all my 'research' Apple really picked an ideal nib for their pencil. Some of the hard plastic nibs out there are not hard enough and been known to shatter if dropped when they land on the nib. I tried all the various forms of the metal nibs too and as much as I liked them, the novelty wore off and I was longing for the original nib (no they cannot scratch an unprotected screen, it is scientifically impossible according to the Mohs Hardness Scale). I did not like ANY of the rubber nibs out there what so ever. Much like Brad, I will be sticking with my original nibs and matte screen protector, but mine is from iCarez.

I wonder if anyone had a good experience with these I backed the kickstarter and had about the same experience as everyone else of the tips failing within hours. Thats the reason why the "hard" version exists, because the original version is going to wear out for you soon.... Anything with apple sucks it seems like. The product and software creators being condescending and dismissive of user feedback.(Procreate cough cough).

I’ve try them. They wear almost in a day revealing the metal nib inside that is not safe for the iPad glass… So for me they are useless and just a joke for that price…

I bought the first version some time ago and they were overpriced garbage, so I guess I will skip this one too.
