The most underwhelming part was the space exploration. When it was first announced, I thought we were going to get full space exploration where you get to fly through space to the different planets. Maybe I had my expectations too high but the space exploration we got felt very weak. You hop into a planets space area and it has like only 3 things for you to do (destroy stud comets, dog fight, and just flying around). I like the game in a few ways but it's not the game we were promised

    • @CyaSpaceCowboy-7
      @CyaSpaceCowboy-7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

I thought about this same exact thing but what is full space exploration? Holding the acceleration button for 5 min just to "travel" through empty space? Star Citizen does it well... it actually takes a good amount of time to travel between planets or solar systems. While there could have been more content, I think the devs did good enough for providing a "free roam" feeling when traveling between planets

    • @stuart1liles371
      @stuart1liles371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@CyaSpaceCowboy-7 I agree and I also love star citizen. I think they should just made the space areas bigger and more to explore. Two or three things to do that last literally a minute is a little underwhelming. Give me more dogfights or random bounty hunter encounters. Give me missions where your being boarded and have to defend against attackers in your ship. I feel as if they could've added many more side things to do in the space exploration part of this game. Or, add an entire asteroid field that has a track to fly and dodge asteroids in. There was a lot of potential and it just feels like a lot of corners were cut in the final product. It's a solid game, but it could've been on the edge if perfection if they expanded a little more on their ideas.

Pretty important - it wasn't made in unreal engine. The devs wanted to, but TT games higher ups forced them to work with their own brand-new bugfilled TT games engine. Hence, the devs were forced to work with a crappy untested engine that they blame for the 2 year delay.

    • @ToomanyFrancis
      @ToomanyFrancis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +143

And because of this the devs were working double overtime that may or may not have been unpaid. This is why the main campaign feels rushed, they simply didn't have time to make the game they wanted to make.

@@ToomanyFrancis They were slowed down a lot, but even then, the same article in which the devs say these things, they also point out the incompetent management. Things they know are important to us, like polished co-op and online, were ignored in favour of management suffering from feature creep. This is why the game is absolutely PACKED with one-time things where people say "oh, you can do that? cool!" and never use it again, when core things were deleted. Gameplay programmers work overtime on endless lists of one-time features when that same time could be used to have some combat available in the open-world. One thing to add about Lego Star Wars 3 as well is that all of their boss fights are very different fights.
Jango - Hit him out of the air attack him on the Ground
Helper Droid - Try to find it in grass and hit it which then goes to try to hit it with all of the Droids in the room
R3-S6 - You can only fight him with R2 but it is just press the button to win fight
Geonosian Queen - You use her eggs in order to platform to cliffs and destroy pillars to take her out
Anakin and Asoka - Take out the padawan first to take her light saber then target the master
Grievous - The General is a menacing foe who can only be taken out by throwing Enemies, Objects or him
Ventress - A lightsaber duel which requires you to take her light saber to a force duel to then a mech battle to falling to the ground while still fighting Ventress
Not all of them are winners but they do a good job in making each one unique.

Thinking back to TCS a lot of the levels had like 3 times the length of some of them in this game. I would have rather had way less open world exploration and more time spent on the levels since that’s what you’ll mainly be replaying. Also whilst watching some cutscenes I was thinking ‘why am I not playing this?’ The destruction of the 2nd Death Star is a cutscene in this game but a full level in TCS. Seeing enemies ignore the player feels...well, wrong to say the least. I replayed a bunch of lego games last month and every single enemy is hyper aggressive and doesn't hesitate to swarm you compared to the ones here. The old Lego Star Wars games had the player die quite a bit, but the repercussions of it were very minimal, only having you drop some studs on death.
Lego Star Wars 3 felt the most punishing out of the series, but still extremely easy compared to most every other non-lego game. What made it unique was how you could actually fail missions and needed to restart them, specifically the RTS battle challenges and the bounty missions.

I think both of you are saying the same thing: the older LEGO games are less about the difficulty of the gameplay and more about offering a variety of gameplay which no other game could deliver to the impetuous mind of a child. The satisfaction of a typical action game comes from overcoming challenges. A game can only be challenging if it has constraints. But LEGO games are about removing those constraints. And so the satisfaction of playing such games is allowing the player to play however they want. If you want to rescue Princess Leia as General Grievous, you can do that. If you want to fight Jango Fett as Luke Skywalker, you can do that. If you want to blow up the Death Star with a TIE fighter, you can do that. If you want to escape from Bespin as a gonk droid, you can do that. If you want to fight Darth Vader while simultaneously playing as Darth Vader, you can do that. A child doesn't need a massive game to try out the countless possible combinations.

“Are you rushing or dragging” is such an accurate critique. Looking back in hindsight after beating all the story missions, I’m amazed how much of each episode was dedicated to just running to different waypoints. So many of the levels are just vehicle chase sequences or boss fights, and going back to get the collectibles is honestly just exhausting because it’s so repetitive… I replayed the Prologue mission of LSW:TFA, which is 3 distinct segments of ROTJ, including the Death Star bombing, Luke vs Vader and the emperor, and the Battle of Endor (all with more fleshed out gameplay segments). That’s how I thought The Skywalker Saga would handle cramming so much content into so few levels, but instead… They just didn’t try

One of the more common examples in that game would be the Super Battle Droids, which Blaster Characters were practically useless against - and you needed either a Lightsaber, rapid fire (of which there were very few characters with rapid fire) or an explosive to kill them. It's been a long time since I played it so I'm not sure of the full list of enemies anymore, but this also applied to vehicles.

Speaking of; I had hoped Skywalker Saga would have those battles again. Imagine changing which faction owns which planet by playing a ground battle as one of the factions of your choosing against the one currently controlling the planet - and it will change what NPCs and faction related quests will be available on the planet, as well as some aesthetics the planet would have.

There's an interesting read on the wiki about it; essentially the devs at TT were pushing to use UE, but management told them no, and that they had to use an updated version of the NTT engine (the one they've been using for all previous LEGO games). I'd recommend giving that section a read, it briefly details the staff's frustration and the crunch culture at TT during the development of this game as well, and sort of shows a different possible perspective as to the games flaws.

The Phantom Menace space battle was the only one I really had fun with because it was one of the few that lets you spin and go fast and at least let yourself feel cool, zipping by, blowing stuff up, and then spinning to pull around a tight turn. The first part of the asteroid field level in ESB was kinda like that too, getting to zip through and past the Star Destroyers. And the random encounters were kinda cool in that way too. But it is an absolute crime that this kind of fast spinny flying could've been used in levels for the Battle of Coruscant, the Battle of Endor, and the Battle of Exogol, three enormous space battles that would've been amazing to zip between capital ships shooting down fighters and whatnot.

During boss fights you have to make sure that you don’t do too much damage during one phase because if they’re in certain damage animations when a cutscene activates get can become invincible with no way to fix it. While most of the comments here are mostly agreeing and negative towards the game, I've been having a blast playing the game and I don't think the combat is necessarily extremely easy, but the boss fights are extremely easy and that's the main thing I dislike in the game, because actually fighting them with combo attacks and dodging is fun, but one of the coolest things about the lightsaber characters was the ability to throw the lightsaber, and when I figured out you can just keep throwing it over and over until their health bar is gone, the boss fights became way too easy.
The bosses may block every now and then but throughout the whole fight, they never block more than once. The combat in general though isn't as easy as the boss fights, because this is where personal experience and mindset come into play. If you play through the game the right way and with the right mindset, the flaws that he talks about either aren't as noticeable or don't even show up, because yes there are essentially no setbacks from dying, but to enjoy the game, just play it trying not to die, and challenge yourself by doing stupid things like instead of just shooting at the enemies, ride a gonk droid and go beat them up because even then you probably won't die because of the multiple health bar upgrade, but you could deactivate it if you have it if you want as well, but you can die from a headshot and that simple fact will keep you active and engaged. If you have a good mix of doing the main mission and side content during the free play sections in-between the missions, then it's really fun. Essentially the way I play is strictly follow and do the main missions, but while doing them, do whatever side content appears on my mini-map with the collectible detector upgrade.
Let's say I just started Ep1 and gone to the Gungan planet, while following Jar-Jar to the water, I saw a couple Kyber bricks, then I'd try and figure out how to get them and what character I would need if I could change characters, and character missions, any vehicle unlocks, all that, and then going into the gungan base, there'd be more in there to do and it really keeps the variety up because of all the different and usually clever puzzle solving to get the bricks. I will say any space side quests are what's really redundant and boring. Those have way less variety. It's also good to have overall goals you want to reach while playing like saving up studs for multipliers or maybe reaching certain percentage completion on all the episodes because then you'll never feel like what you're doing is boring or pointless.
There is probably more to say here if I thought more about it but overall, I don't think this game is nearly as bad and as much as a step-back as he says it is. Is it the best Lego game, well that's all an opinion and some would say yes, others would say no, but I think it's at least in the running for best and if you read all of this, I hope you're having a good day and thanks for reading it all.

As someone who loves this game to death
I completely agree with you on almost every point you said. Without a doubt, one of my biggest gripes with the game is playing levels where you fight other saber users in free play. Most of the time when scripted events come up, like moving to a new area or deflecting lighting back at someone, whatever character you choose will switch to the default character used in story mode. In most cases I can understand why this would happen but I think we’ve reached far enough in technological advances to where this shouldn’t be an issue. Take “better call maul” for example, even in scripted events, you characters don’t switch and stay the same. Unlike the Palpatine fight where both characters switch when deflecting lightning. This might be a nit pick but I’m sorry for wanting to fight the Emperor as old luke fighting alongside old Ben when I could make Grievous and Yoda duel on Mustafar in the Complete Sage

Sometimes the combat stuff was downright challenging in those old Lego games. Remember the Motorcycle level in Lego Indiana Jones? 10 god damn enemies would spawn out of every corner of the map after you left the first area and everything you had to go up against in that level had explosives that kill you in one hit. Even when I play that level now I have trouble not dying 10-15 times. They could’ve easily found a way to make these games more challenging particularly with the new combat system but every lightsaber fight felt like I was just pressing one button every three seconds in order to dodge something as if it was the tutorial level on Guitar Hero. Even when you do get hit by a lightsaber attack, it does only like an eighth of your health bar

On the subject of the bounty hunters all being the same, that's really disappointing given what limits the older games had at least made bounty hunters have several types and sometimes even things certain others couldn't do, for instance the double jump Greedo does where he does a roll and if you shoot afterwards it's in a 3 round barrage meanwhile IG-88 can't do that but can he access door, some of them had the thermal detonator and others had jetpacks, hell Jango and Boba both had the thermal detonator and their backpack missile, what they all could do was use the grappling hook that all blaster users could do.
Of course I'm remembering Lego Star Wars 2(which also had the time attack bounty hunter missions which were real neat), sadly I don't recall much about Lego Star Wars: the complete saga but I'm sure it doubled down on the expected Lego Star Wars experience at that point give or take the extra bells and whistles each game brought to the table themselves.

Like we get, what, 45 levels? Most of which are fetch quests or something and done in 5 minutes? With 300 characters sure, but no custom or ghosts?
It makes me wonder why they didn't just revamp the old existing content with a modern flare. Couldn't be that much more work. You already have 36 levels from the Complete Saga, would it have been that much more work to make 18 levels for the Sequels?
It feels like there was a lot of untapped/wasted potential here. Like getting a sandwich, but it's just 2 slices of bread.

I'm having fun with the game and can certainly see how much effort it was put into it. With that being said I have some constructive criticisms for the game.
    1. The Pacing: though playing through the most important plot points in the Skywalker saga has been awesome, I can say that the Pacing has been really distracting and frankly takes me out of the story, at time it feel like I'm playing a game that it is about the trailers of the movie rather than the actual movies.
    2. Levels feel to short: as the same problem with the story same is with the levels. Levels in this game are so short and simplistic at times.
    3. Some failings with the sandbox aspect of the game:
This is one of the most frustrating parts some iconic locations are locked only on levels. Some examples being: the Senate, Jabas palace, the Geonosian Arena, The Droid factory, and the pod racing stadium.
◽The one that saddens me the most is Jabas palace I really wanted to enter it and explore it in the open world, without being interrupted by cutscenes and objectives.
◽Another one that I feel was such a huge missed opportunity was locking the pod racing stadium to a level. I mean imagine free roaming in the open world and participating in races with your buddy in co-op. Maybe even using the minikit vehicles in the races.
Also with every as one progresses with playing in the open world it makes it feel more empty
But all that being said I m having a fun and good time when the the game! I know their where some problems with time and TT using a new engine.I can say TT has set a strong foundation for future games!

I feel LEGO games always managed to walk the line between humor and staying close to the source material.
With Skywalker Saga they've gone too far in a few places. They felt the need to insert jokes into nearly every scene (background jokes are the most annoying, as the sound effects are way too loud and drown out the actual dialogue).
I also have issues with the level structure and how developers have seemingly tried to rush through certain movies. There were also plenty of moments that were playable in Complete Saga but turned into a rushed cutscene in Skywalker Saga.

Saying Lego Marvel superheroes is a bad game is a villain of Lego games

If you want to know how easy this game is, you can upgrade it so you can skip the mini puzzles while you're trying to access terminals. Since they can be done in like two seconds, I just do them anyway to get some extra few studs. Again, these are part of the upgrades which you have to earn, but the fact there's a way to skip these puzzles just shows how easy the game is. Plus that just tells me the developers themselves know how tedious they are by adding a way to skip them.

I hate the argument that some stuff is “for kids” cause unless it’s pre school level then many/most stuff can be enjoyed by everyone and can often be made for everyone
I don’t mind Lego games being easy, all of them are easy and it doesn’t make the games any less fun.
I do agree that it sucks that it removes some essential scenes from being playable and many levels are way too short.
I also agree that custom characters should be in the game too.
I don’t mind the ui myself and plus you can customize it

      Nah you're totally right.
It's not really an argument, just the usual and sorry for the vulagrity, but piss poor excuse to protect the ego of people who are that insecure about their own tastes (as always with almost everything nowadays), ever heard about the famous "Think about the children!"? yeah, that's the same one but for a different purpose.
Not the first time grown adults hide behind the poor kids when it feels conveniant... imagine them trying to tell us that kids nowadays never played popular games such as Dark Souls (or more recently with Elden Ring), Overwatch or even Fortnite but would just play with those "braindead kids games", let's be real, they knows pretty well they'd fools no one with this level of bullshit but tries anyway.

Stuff can be for kids and adults. Look at many Pixar or similar animated films for example. An adult can enjoy Cars, the incredibles, etc and still have fun with it despite being for kids because nonetheless it is well made and has some substance to it

@@eireiemiya4136 some adults could do Lego levels as kids that they can't do as adults and wonder how they manage. So that excuse is extra hilarious.

I recently tried this game, and I definitely agree. I did have fun, but mostly just for re-living the story of the movies (1-6) in a goofy lego setting.
The good news is technically a lot of these things can easily be updated (sadly they probably just never will). The platforming could easily be fixed just by allowing you to use regular movement, they could spawn more enemies and make them do more damage which is just a stat change, and the bosses could target you even if you're R2.
This doesn't fix everything like the poor story-telling, cut levels, or missing online Co-op, but it could help.

Lego Star Wars 3 - *Ambush on Christophsis* was the best mission coz you have to escape the Tower which was crawling with Clankers.

Loved the video and agree with 99% of it, but too be fair there definitely is at least some platforming. Maybe not in the actual levels, which is still disappointing, but there are places like mos eisley and the streets of coruscant where you can basically climb onto any roof in the map.

It has been 3 months and I had never heard a single bad review on this game until I found this video and I found this and I’ve never been more glad. This game was so ass and everyone was treating it like the best Lego game ever despite it being incredibly easy, making older levels worse, and all the bosses being the same exact thing. The thing that scares me most is a new Pirates of the Caribbean or Indiana jones lego game the same style as this one ruining another one of my beloved lego games. Lego Star Wars 3 was by far my favorite lego game ever and seeing this is just sad. So overall thanks for making an actual opinion instead of sucking the game off for being terrible

Exactly how I feel when I first got it in April. I had faith in this game to be a hidden gem in this shitty modern gaming industry, but it just ended up like the others.

As someone who played the absolute crap out of the original Lego Star Wars, I'm glad I'm not the only one who realized all the cool missions were rushed cut scenes, and the in game missions were point A to B nonsense.

There were parts of the missions where you can get sidetracked trying to obtain cyber bricks or other items I feel like people with this critique only have 30% of each story completed because they only did the missions and nothing else
