Well done for being the first to be specific on the use as a diver. Would like to see more diving footage examples in the near future. I ha e been using the X2 and x3 for some time. Many thanks again
Hi Bob, Thanks. We'll get more video out soon. So, remember to subscribe.
Thanks for the comparison. Around 2:20 you said you don’t need the housing if you’re not going deeper than 10 m. I guess that’s technically correct, but you may want to note that the 360 stitching doesn’t work correctly due to water refraction. So you’d def want the case for any depth when recording in 360 mode. That might be helpful for some folks.
Hi, Yes, that's a great point. Thanks for adding it!
@@DIVEindotcom Also, on the X3 without housing, pressing the buttons even a foot underwater wouldn't work; you have to start and finish the video out of the water. Is this the same for the X4?
How close can you get with the camera, while using a housing, to subjects and still keep them in focus
Thanks for the review, I will get the X4 this week, looking forward to compair it to my x3 underwater
Hope you enjoy it!
Looks great. Nice video.
Thanks 👍
You can also long press Q button to access Dive Case Mode. And You can press Q button to enable Quick Capture when the cam powered off.
Yes, that's correct. If you forget to put it into Dive case mode, a long puch on the Q button will enable Dive case Mode. Thanks for adding that!
Thanks for showing this, I currently use the One X2 and the problem with that dive case is it isn't completely hidden. This is the most compelling reason for me to consider the X4
Yes, the X2 never got a propper dive case.
Hi @DIVEindotcom When using the Underwater housing with the X4, in the Lens Guard Mode do you set it to 'Auto' or 'No lens guard'? Thanks!
We always too of the lens guards before adding it into the uw housing, and set it to "no lens guard"
Thank you for the comparison of X3 vs X4 under water, I'm from Hawaii and I was curious about the low light performance under water. Definitely I'm getting the X4 soon. Also, I have OM TG-7 currently and do you have any idea on the video quality of TG-7 vs X4? Mahalo
The guidelines for the 8K is not to use in low light. We where a bit worried how the the footage would turn out underwater, but it worked really well. Even going through the wrecks.
Great video! I am going to purchase an x3 soon but i dont know if i should get a special type of selfie stick for underwater recordings. I dont want to damage a the selfie stick. Can someone please tell me what to do?
The standard selfie stick from Insta is waterproof and works well for it. It takes some time to dry, as some water gets trapped inside. To dry it, I usually extend and retract it a few times and leave it extended for a day or two to dry completely.
Do you have any recomendation for the settings? From what I have seen shooting at 8k at depth is not recommended due to the lack of light. What settings did you use and what depth was it taken at for the video in your review?
We were "worried" about this as well, so we started shooting at 5.7, but I'm impressed with the 8K. footage (most of this video contains 8k footage).
We had great weather in Malta, with sun and no clouds resulting in good lighting underwater, so we didn't have issues filming in 8k.
If the water you dive in is clear and it's sunny, I'd recommend you go with 8k. If it's cloudy and the water is a bit murky, go with 5.7k.
@@DIVEindotcomthanks for the info
Is that there is no way to change from 8k to 5k under water and I have to decide before each dive
Would you need some kind of red filter to bring out the blues and whites at depth?
The built-in software fixes that automatically.
What he ☝️ said!
You only need to film, and the software will do the rest. Similar to what GoPro and a lot of the other underwater cameras are doing these days.
First time on your channel. Didn't notice your channel name until I started this comment. What I was about to say is that I seldom heard any one using the fraise "Let's dive in" with such a dual mening ... to go into the subject and to go into deep water ... but then I saw your channel name :) Good choice of name! ... now I am going to watch the video!
I'm glad you liked our "let's DIVEIN" :)
Hope you enjoyed the video.
Does the X3 underwater case work with X4 or do you have to get a X4 specific case? I have the x3 case and want to know if it will work.
The x4 is a larger unit. I would say no.
Insta360 has produced a specific X4 housing since it is a little taller than the X3. The housing is the same, just larger.
I see more wavy distortion and case artifacts in the underwear video and the dive case with the X4 vs what i saw with my own X3 and its dive case.
The X4 camera and housing is larger, so it makes sense that it's a bit bigger.
@@DIVEindotcomI took a closer look of the X3 dive case compared to the X4 dive case. Yes the cameras are longer but they do look identical in the dome part.
Should I be using the extendable invisible selfie stick or the floating selfie stick underwater?
I've only used the extendable one, but it makes it slightly negative in the water. So, if you want it to float you can use the floating one.
i was really looking forward to this review. it looks amazing compared to the x3, but i was considering replacing the gopro 12 for underwater usage and new angles of shooting and perhaps a bit of interesting perspective. now i am somewhat unconvinced by the quality of the image. on the most of the footage the flares from the housing were present, a lot o f the panning revealed soft spots around the edges where the 2 cameras stitch and as invisible as the new housing is and a lot better than the first version, it still introduces too much softness to my liking. the colors seem decent - that is around 20m depth i assume? but how are the details - i am under the impression the details and focus are very high at the center parts and tend to go softer and blurry away from it, and a lot more than it should be, is that correct? how easy for grading is the footage? it tops up at 2.7K when exported, but is it falling apart when you play with the colors?
it seemed at times the lenses or the housing were not clear actually. could it be that was an issue underwater?
Hi Svetoslav,
I'll try my best to answer all your questions.
Yes, there's a clear edge from the housings stitching. This is not something you see above water when filming, so it's not teh camera but the housings stitching.
This creates the flare you see in the video, and it can be annoying. To avoid it, we tried to keep one lens towards the object we were filing at, but as you can see, it can be challenging.
Depth was between 20 and 30 meters for teh wrecks. I'm not sure exactly the depth of this footage but around that.
Yes, the colors are good, and we did not edit this. It's all done by Insta in teh App automatly.
The details are good when filming in 8K, as it's two 4K lenses. So you can see the details quite clearly.
The only issue we experienced with the lens was the run light hitting the dome part, creating a reflection. This was only an issue in shallow water.
Wonder why the thumb screw is longer with the X4 case vs the X3?
It's not. It's exactly the same.
@@DIVEindotcom 2:23 vs
@@DIVEindotcom3:10 you video X4, 2:44 X3 another video. "NEW! Insta360 X3 Invisible Dive Case: REVIEW & EXCLUSIVE TIPS" for reference. I noticed this with my new X4 case while trying to get my X3 case ready for sale. I was trying to figure out what the advantage was or disadvantage. I wanted to make sure I kept the parts correctly separated.
@@acem7749 okay, then we have the wrong screw on our X3. I had a look as well, and the screws on our two housings are exactly the same size.
It can be a mix-up, as we have two housings for the X4, and I might have grabbed the camera mount for the X4 and put it on the X3.
Is this in malta (gozo) ? cuz i think i recognize the boat
Yes, nice spotted :)
@@DIVEindotcom yea
Question- X4, underwater with and without dive case. How big is the difference if max depth is around 15ft?
Max depth for the X4 is 10m/33 ft or with the housing it's 50m/164ft.
@@DIVEindotcom Thx! Anyone know of any image differences though? Again at under 20ft depth with case and without?
@@TPCV2 There's no real image quality difference. Then stitching is better with the housing on underwater.
@@DIVEindotcom Thanks so much! Thats all I needed to know. Will only very rarely be under water and only at quite shallow depths. (I had read in a few places that without the dive housing you could only do single lens so, was curious if that was accurate and what kind of image quality issues there may be). Thanks again!
Is there any way of securing the stick to my hand?
If the stick slips out of your hand it's gone forever?
For action water sports we've done it by attaching a floating wrist strap with a zip tie in the bottom of the handle.
What's your selfie stick size?
This is the 1 meter action selfie stick
What about showing how it's up to 10 m without the water casing ? That would be interesting .
Considering it's a $500 camera, I'm going to get the water case especially because I swim in the ocean. Cheap insurance!
I have an x3 and an x4 coming. I never went underwater with mine yet, but I believe if you want good video, you want the dive case. I think it’s clearer and also the stitching isn’t right without it from what I’ve seen in photos on the website and other videos. I’ll be ordering the dive case for my x4 soon as I have trip to Aruba coming up.
@@hawaiirealmedia5610 Thanks for the reply! I don't want to drive with it further than 10 m. So I was curios , for some small water, maybe 3 or 4 m if it's needed . Buying a 140 euro case for a 2 weeks vacation. But maybe is needed. I gave it for X2 but never us it.
@@rpizzo68 The price for the case increased compared to X2 and never used it. But I presume now it's needed. Thanks
Agree. I tried the X3 without the housing on a pervious trip ant the stitching wasn't good. It was only to 2m/6ft.
It perfectly watertight, and I'm sure the X4 will as well.
That said, anytime I go deeper I'd bring it in the housing.
why is it out of stock?
I don't know. Perhaps they are that popular.
But does it float? If I let it go with the invisible selfie stick attached - will it float to the surface?
The camera and housing will float, but with the selfie stick attached it becomes slightly negative.
I just tested for the first time my Insta360 X4 with the water Case for snorkeling compare to my Gopro 11, and let me tell you, I was so disappointed with the quality of the footage with the Insta360 X4. Am I the only one, or am I missing something here ?
He said the x3 was good, lost credibility he said that cause the x3 was terrible. Was waiting to hear more reviews before I buy the DJI action 4
You have to take in consideration that is 360 camera. It will never be as good as a gopro or normal action cam.
x4 or action 4 for diving

I think all these videos are just fake, even this one. It is totally vissible and terible stitching actually video is unusuable.
Which parts of the video do you think is fake?
You can see the stitching, but does that make the video unusable?
