You're an absolute genius and I can't thank you enough for this. Have been struggling with this for the longest time and you simplified it and made life so much easier! THANK YOUUU!!
only thing I just realised is now it is now it doesnt ask me where I want to save my print, so it allows me to print but I dont know if it is not finishing the process or if its printed but I dont know the location. Any help would be most appreciated! I also've just migrated from Windows and Mac is such a different world indeed
Thank you! It works for me except for Foxit or PDF (I would like to print a PDF-DOC as PDF so that it is not editable anymore. This worked in Windows). Any ideas?
Have you tried using the built-in "Print to PDF" feature in Foxit? Just FYI I haven't used Foxit, but I found these instructions after doing some research. Open the document in Foxit or any PDF reader. Go to File > Print. In the Print dialog, choose Save as PDF from the PDF drop-down in the lower-left corner. This should create a new PDF that is typically more difficult to edit, although it's still technically possible to edit PDFs with specialized software.
Thank you so much for this video I was trying to figure out so long how to presave settings for my patterns and have them ready in pdf file for printing in Fedex. Only thing which I need is to mark option "actual size" in Page sizing and handling and save that document. That way, that patterns are in actual size not just fit on paper or some other option. I was always getting error that I don't have set up printer at iMac from Adobe software. So now I have virtual printer and it giving me option to set up printing settings thanks to you :) but there is no option to save that I only see "print" and when I click it its not offering me save as pdf option, its sending to that virtual printer automatically. It is so simple option and I never had issue in past and now with Mac I need to pay using computer at Fedex, dowload file from my email and then set up options and send to their printer to print. Let me know please if you know how I can deal with this. Thank you so much :) Best, Niko
You're welcome - I'm glad the video helped, at least somewhat. Usually in the Adobe programs, I just "Save As", or "Export As" a PDF, I'm surprised that's not working for you. Having it 'Print' as PDF is kind of a workaround, honestly.
Thanks! I already had a printer set up but it's black and white so apps like Preview only gave me the option to export black and white PDFs without color. Your method helps - I just had to choose DeskJet instead of Laserjet as the driver because apparently that's black and white too? At least for me, it showed a black and white preview.. Anyway, with DeskJet it worked :)
I get the error " The Save as PDF options in the Printer dialog are not supported." I am trying to save a titles pattern to PDF. The pattern is across 6 letter sized pages. I am using a Mac, CS6. The save to PDF option does not work, it saves it as one page and not tiled pages. Any advice? I can't seem to find my solution using google either.
I'm not sure; unfortunately I don't have CS6. But I found this online: community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/save-as-pdf-options-in-the-printer-dialog-are-not-supported-error-in-illustrator/td-p/11265174
Im using word. On the Windows 11 i just simply hit ctrl + P and print with the Foxit Reader. But on MacOS it not like that. Do you have any tips to add the Foxit Reader as the Default printer?
I haven't tried this, but I did a little research online. To set Foxit Reader as your default printer on macOS, open System Settings, navigate to Printers & Scanners, select the "Foxit PDF Printer" option, and then click "Set as Default"
I Done as you said, even I got save pdf option. Once I hit the save as pdf it gives this popup "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save." what should I do now?
tried doing it with acrobat reader and it says "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save." but that doesn't work too cus the saved file doesn't have the changes i did to it
Ok I see. This video isn't really meant for changes within Acrobat. There are several online PDF editors which will probably be a better option - you can usually redownload the PDF from the online site after you've made changes.
Cant print as pdf on Adobe Indesign when I try to booklet print on mac, but I be able to print as pdf on windows with adobe pdf printer. I use latest version of indesign just update today at 5pm. Any idea how to save or print booklet on mac?
You're welcome! :) You might try a workaround using PostScript printing. See if you can save your file as a PostScript file (.ps) from Illustrator, and then use Adobe Acrobat Distiller to convert the PostScript file to a PDF. This method sometimes helps resolve compatibility issues.
@@GDHT Aaahhh and yesss PostScript methode at booklet print on Adobe Indesign and I chose my xerox printer in my case then converted with Adobe Distiler with custom setting and boom.. but for 16 pages the .ps file was so huge (750MB++) then tobe ±8MB at the result as pdf file. 1 step on windows with adobe pdf printer, and 2 steps on mac with PostScript conversion methode. Close case. Thanks a bunch 😁.
Question: I'm trying to print a Keynote presentation in a contact sheet form. Enabled AirPrint as per your instructions but in Keynote it would only do it in black and white with no options to change it. I need it printed in color and in a contact sheet form. Any thoughts/advice?
If you're using the Print dialog box, make sure "Black and White' isn't checked. If that doesn't fix it, it might be something in Keynote itself. What's your process for making the contact sheet? Are you doing Print, and then Grid?
@@GDHT As I said above there are "no options to change it". I found it under the bottom drop down "PDF" in the bottom left If I use that then it works.
I tried this option but getting error saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose file>save If i use file>save the pdf is still editable
Some people have mentioned having trouble with Cricut, but this video from my other channel worked the last time I tried: th-cam.com/video/R1pPe8UYWaE/w-d-xo.html
@@GDHT Yeah when trying to print to PDF from Acrobat the option you mentioned above isn't there. And when I go through the print options as you showed in your video it actually gives an error warning. Had quite an adventure trying to figure this out.
@@GDHT Oh yeah I tried that too, it didn't fit my needs. I needed to resize a PDF from A5 to A4 quickly. On windows I would print to PDF, use A5 paper and select fit to page. On Mac I couldn't do that. The save as option doesn't work because it doesn't allow you to access the print dialogue, it only wants you to save the PDF at its current size. Infact I couldn't find a way to make a PDF smaller in Acrobat. I could reduce the crops but that is all I could manage in the end. I do appreciate you responding however.

I have the same issue and I have the latest version of Acrobat Reader (free)
In Illustrator you can go to File > Save As, then save as a PDF. You don't need a virtual printer in that case.

Thank you hut it’s not working for me/ there is no save or pop up. It does just send to the non existent printer
Hmm, that's strange! What version of the OS are you using?
adding print is not required, this option is already working even if you don't add printer like this.
What program are you making a PDF from? If it's an Adobe product, yes, it will already have the PDF option.
@ mac has inbuilt feature to save in PDF when you give the command to print.
This doesn't work when trying to print a PDF from a PDF.
In this case, you can just use 'Save As' under File. Let me know if you're still having trouble.
Do you mean in Acrobat?
