Kanisha looks physically, emotionally and mentally tired. The burn out is real. Hope her mom learns to empathise with her daughter better. Her mom claims it helps with her time management, but I fail to see how Kanisha is managing her own time when all her schedule is decided by her teachers, her mom and her extra-classes/tuition. If she manages her time on her own, she would probably not have all these extra classes/tuition.

Deb I agree. My eldest brother and his daughter are top students. They did not have any tuition and had lots of outside curricular activities. What makes them so special is that they know their own needs and how to solve the problem of bad grades. So they plan accordingly without parents intervention and eventually they develop time management skills. Meanwhile, I am the opposite. I am the only daughter and my parents plan my schedule for me. So I relied so much on them in terms of time management that I actually did badly for a levels when they stopped hand holding. I still struggle with time management till today.

Sad that Kenesha has become so stressed it feels that she's lost the love of learning. Maybe there has to be a better balance of studies and free time, because ultimately this isnt sustainable

I think Kenisha has to voice out her opinion as well as talking to teachers to reduce what they can so that Kenisha can have some free time like she mentions she miss hanging out & talking to her friends.
She is a good speaker but on the back of her mind, she feel afraid to express her concern because i guess her friends/teachers has more expectation from her.
But yes i do agree with you that Kenisha has to balances her time & to her mother, please reduce her religious classes & tuition to at least 1 tuition & 1 religious.Kenisha already had 1 CCA which require her to stay back twice a week.
Education is very important but it is also important to know your child limits.

I was in Kenisha's school last year and used to observe her many duties she had to carry out but she chose to be a prefect and she chose to help out in other activities.Hence I think that if she is actually exhausted she can actually not volunteer for activities. The teachers at Qifa and i believe most schools are reasonable and empathise with students too

The main issue is having too much tuition on top of long classes. My parents used to spend so much money on tuition without asking if they were effective or not. The truth is I always didn’t have the time to finish the hw and I ended up using the time for consultation to do the hw my tutor gave me. At the end of the day I didn’t learn much.A lot of parents just leave the responsibilities to the tutor yet they overlooked the importance of communicating the school work with their children. I like how rosli went through the test with his daughter at night and he gave her feedbacks on her presentation. Constant monitoring your children’s work is very important. Kids have short attention span
and parents need to use the least time consuming and boring teaching method to teach. Kids are not stupid, they are just very bored and easily distracted.

Tinc same. I feel tuition in primary school is useless unless ur child rlly loves learning with a passion, like alot or is gifted and generally smarter. I ahd tuition in primary school and it was useless, it even had the opposite effect because i was so stressed out and there was just too much work. In secondary school however, after you mature and grow a little, or at least for me, tuition was very useful for me, and that+ my own hard work improved my pure chem frm F9 to A2 within 3 months

I somehow find the malay family very vibrant,in term that her father listen to her daughter thoughts, how he let her daughter finish her sentences, meanwhile i feel that Kenisha mother should put a little more effort in talking with Kenisha.
As for Shri, they are happy family but something is lacking.
For May & her son,it definitely a little akward knowing both share the same trait.I think her son is shy that his mom is his classmate.
Overall,i think Adriana is the only one that seem to get along & didn't care that her father is her classmate.I also like how Roslee does talk to her like a friend & then talk to her as a father at home.
I think that a parents should be.i think the malay family should be an example that we can't stress our kids.Interact with them in a nice tone.Correct them & advise them if needed. There is no need for a cane.

The child is already being burden at school, the mother shouldn't force her child.
You don't necessarily have to send the child for tuition.Understand what her needs now.
Yes we can push our child but not too hard. How does she want her child to tell her 'my school is already tiring' but her mother keep on forcing 'i enrolled you into tuition'.

Kanisha’s mother seems overly enthusiastic about all the commitments her daughter has. Sure, these may teach Kanisha leadership skills, time management, and it’s clear that she speaks and presents herself well. But is she happy? I remember in primary and secondary school, those in the prefectorial board were known to be more “servants” than “leaders” because the teachers just dumped all sorts of work onto the prefects. We can see this happening with the teachers getting Kanisha and the other girl to plan assembly (prev episode). Since when were students tasked to plan school programmes??
We only get to experience our childhood years once. I hope her mother can really hear her daughter’s cries for help, and let her have more of a happy childhood spent with her friends and family.

I was in the prefectural board once in 4th grade (like seriously last year) and I HATED it. People would always have expectations from which I could not cope up with. Sure I was academically good and a good person but it did not allow me to express me, the funny and extroverted person I am. It is just so unfair that us bright children need to do all these boring assemblies and speeches when in reality we just want to be a student and do what we love after school. This is the pressure which is killing the inner child in you even when you are still a child!

caring about an activity and stressing yourself to tears are two different things. It's not that they take things too seriously, she's more worried about how kids are able to manage their emotions, which is actually really important. it's the kids that can't see the forest for the trees that eventually struggle. the fact that she was freaking out while their were building is not hypocritical because even if she does care she recognizes that even if she isn't the best it's not the end of the world. If anything she's just sensitive to their emotions, not "being negative"

I noticed in many of the clips, she started talking about a 'bad' aspect (e.g it does take a lot of her time), and always followed with her positive spin on things ("but it builds character"). We say 'teachers working conditions are students learning conditions' and it's so true beyond my own headache I can't imagine how much the 30 students I have crammed into a 40C, no airflow (fans are pathetic) classroom are learning when I'm trying to teach them maths last period watching the sweat drip literally drip down their faces.

The problem is that air conditioners are expensive and some schools have way too many classes and classrooms to afford that much. Luckily from me, I had air conditioning in some of my classrooms and the heat wasn’t a big issue as there was constant wind blowing through my classrooms.

I only had Malay tuition on Sunday cause I was weaker in it. Ultimately we all got good grades cause we had lesser stress. I feel tired watching this
Oh man! Why do primary kids NEED tuition, they can just self study their regular class, do homework and play, just play. For me, this seems so exaggerated and tiring. Of course kids needs extra activities but not EVERY SINGLE DAY and especially not of they're not at all enjoying it and feels pressurized.

I hope after all parents watching this knows that our primary school now is not the same as theirs. Usual i will be told school life in singapore is easy is play and play and play in school. I hope parents finally see that is not all about playing and is not that easy too, compare to their past primary school experiences

Without Tuition my son had a school day that was often longer than the work day of an adult (primary school). We had to send him Chinese tuition in the end, because the Chinese language teacher kind of presumed that everybody has Tuition. Maths I did with him in P5 and P6. With the other subjects he coped acceptable well, but together with the homework it was often a gruelling, long day. I felt more than once sad for him. When I brought it up to the teacher her answer was like: Everybody can do this in 2 hours or less. It was not true, I certainly did ask around.
That has to stop ... urgently! No more tuition! Homework limit 30 minutes per subject, maximum 3 subjects at the same time.

It is telling when Kenisha is reluctant to cut her CCAs but wants to reduce her tuition. It is torturous to have to go through so many academic classes, days, weeks, months and years on end. Painful and ironic to see how mom will not have it any other way DESPITE saying academics dont guarantee a good career. It is like the mom is trying to compensate for her own anxieties and fears through the child.
