Kenisha’s mom is a nice person, but she totally fails at empathising the situation she has thrown at her daughter. When she told her daughter to skip the one thing her daughter actually enjoys doing, I face-palmed. My mom used to be like that when I was in school. I had so many tuition classes that I was so mentally exhausted. Eventually I stopped communicating with my mom because nothing I said got through to her. It took 10 years after sec sch for us to mend our relationship again. To Kanisha’s mom: Cherish these years with your daughter. She only gets to be a kid once. Over-burdening her with so many tuition classes that is considered undesirable to her (she actually says “I hate it so much.” such strong emotions) and asking her to skip the one thing that she actually loves to do will push her further away from you. Allow her to breathe and relax and do the things she loves to do now. The fact that her mom herself enjoys PE classes because it makes her feel refreshed being in the outdoors and running around, instead of sitting inside 4 brick walls, but yet demands her daughter to go for so many tuition classes is so ironic and hypocritical.

And it's evident that their relationship isn't that great because she openly said she's not sad that it's her mum's last day at school... She's trying to distance herself from her mother...

C I also felt like Kenisha was the only child out of all the children in this experiment that felt a lot older than her years. All the responsibilities piled on her has made her into a little adult. They all expect so much from just a primary school kid.

    • @rayroar1117

Actually I think filming this series is a blessing for the kids and the parents.
After this the parents will know who the teachers are and some of them also start to love the teachers more.
So they can keep in contact with school teachers more and know what their child is studying and offer help.
Like Adriana's dad he can get full marks for decimals, its just that beforehand Adriana did not inform him she was learning decimals.
So now that they know exactly what their child is learning they themselves can help out.
I feel Kenisha's mum actually has a teacher's vibe. In many ways she speaks and act like a teacher!
I hope after this she will feel more comfortable reaching out to school teachers (such as the awesome Mr Goh).
In my experience all of my teachers are very willing and very happy to offer help if students go and find them. It just gets tiring for them if they need to chase the students for homework and stuff.
Alternatively, i think that Kenisha's mum can request her tuition teachers to do things differently.
A tuition teacher can do a lot of things that school teachers cannot do. If only the parents are willing to support an experimental approach.
Kenisha is in dance, rock climbing, gymnastics etc.
      So obviously she loves movement.
Maybe her tuition class should have dance intervals every 15 minutes or so.
Sometimes simply having breaks where they get up to move or dance is all that children need to be able to sustain their focus over longer durations. (Even 45min can be considered long already)
But to do this the tuition teacher will need mum's permission.

Kenisha's mum need to understand and not give her child so much stress. Sometimes, being preventive may not be as useful as you think. I think Kenisha is capable of knowing what is her strengths and weaknesses, and know what she has to do or not to do.Since this series was filmed in 2019(?), I hope that Kenisha is able to cope well this year since it's the PSLE year... Jia you!
Teja is a really sweet girl, and I love how her mum is just so empathetic to everything. However, like what her mum mentioned in the end, mum should learn to let go and allow Teja to do what she enjoys doing. School is not just about studying, but it's also about accumulating all these nice experiences you have, especially when you have to take on roles and responsibilities, etc.
Willis, glad that he is opening up to his mum more. Hopefully his mum can find the right method to get closer to him... Or perhaps, it's just boy's awkwardness...?
Adrianna is really cute. I like how she is so determined to do her best so as to not make her parents disappointed. I also liked how her dad managed to pick out her weaknesses and troubles and is striving to work on those issues. Hopefully he sees her strengths as well!
Also, CNA should do a series for Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges and Polytechnics LOL It would be good to let parents see the contrast

Teja is such a sweetheart. Really eloquent too. The way she was trying to look out for her mum brought me to tears. :')
Kenisha takes on so many responsibilities at school and yet she performs well and has such a willing-to-try attitude. If I were her parent, I would be very proud. I understand her mum's "prevention is better than cure" attitude, but sincerely hope that for her child's mental well-being, she'll reduce the tuition load -- even if it's just by one or two sessions a week, maybe for her best subjects. Extra curricular activities also build character and can make one more employable/"have a winning edge", it's not always about being book-smart.

After watching this full series, this is my point of view.
    -Willis's Mum
    1) Your son only interested to play. (Don't hold him too tight, if not he will rebel)
    2) He is a type of kid that are interested in hands on stuff. Giving him more assessment practice he will avoid doing it as he hate it.
    3) Explain to him that this exam, will define your future and the things he want to do.
    4) Let him set his goal, if he can set his goal eventually he will be successful.
*Was like him, love to play and play. Eventually i know what i want
    -Adriana's Dad
    1) Good role model dad!
    2) Implement plans that will improve her learning like (speak proper malay on monday, wednesday and friday)
    3) Willing to empathise her daughter
    4) Learning new skill set like piano. (It is something you will come in handy when you are in polytechnic :) )
    -Kenisha's Mum
    1) She is a typical Kiasu parents. Tuition is good but when you overload it, is a waste of time. As you have Homework, CCA, playtime, test, and revision. To be honest, even you (Kenisha's mum) has more free time than her. It is just utter ridiculous, you control her too much.
    2) If you are going to be a parent like her. I honestly think you should rethink your ways of teaching and controlling your kid. Removing the interest of a student (for her is dancing), is like asking you to not eat your favourite food for life.
    3) By being so strict, the kid will have problem socialising in Polytechnic/University, then you realised the difference (Unless you telling me you going top school like hwa chong etc!, since you are the top of the cream. Nothing to worry about)
4)More PE Classes? Haha! when closer to exam, you will realised how waste of time PE is when you can do your revision. (I agreed PE is good but when there is national exam, you will prefer the revision)
    -Tejashwini's Mum
    1) Be confident! Don't worry about your daughter!
    2) Your daughter is very independent! Dont worry!
*FYI was a bad student, parents force certain way of learning i don't like. Eventually drop to EM3. After a few year of understanding of myself, eventually i know to study better. Eg: Not attending lesson i could get a D grade to a B grade. (Not saying lesson is not good, but you need to know where you are at? and how you can improve better). I did graduate from a local diploma
    Edited: for sentence structure

I feel like Singapore’s education system is like quantity over quality. Kids have short attention span and to teach a simple theory, teachers have to use the least time consuming and boring method to teach the theories. It’s not about how much time you spent teaching a topic, it’s about using the easiest method to help the kids understand and remember the theory behind it. A lot of interaction is needed to catch their attention.

Haish sad to see that parents think that any external activity ie not studying is the one that is affecting them, think about it. Students spend 5days a week studying from morning to afternoon, spending more time in school than at home, and they want to cancel the activity that they find joy in and can relax after a hectic schedule, that's no way to live a life for a child. They're tired because they spend 10-12 hrs sitting on a chair and listening to a class. No one will find something boring, fun. Although studying is necessary, and is a priority for parents,i do not think it is necessary to have them studying 7 days a week and taking what they like. Even the parent liked p.e. Despite not being super sporty but yet she wants to remove a sport that her daughter loves. Its because pe allows u to move and interact rather than remain still and listen to someone talking. if u see this i hope u take it lightly and not to heart as i know what its like to have something taken away from u, and actually it worsened my grade more than it helped.Anyways i hope parents can find a better comprimise, tuition may not always be in the child's best interest, i myself was never interested in tuition, for 9 years of my life i had tuition but my grades were decent but not great. However, when i decided to stop tuition and study on my own, thats where i had more success and i had the liberty to do things at my own pace and i have friends that i could ask for help. I know its every parents best interest to see ur child succeed, maybe even not repeat the same mistake u did in the past, but always remember that u are not living their life neither are they living ur life. Make a good comprimise by talking to each other, understand one another. Anyways have a good weekend ahead.

most of the reasons are these teachers kinda fail at making lectures fun, I felt like this in my primary school, then I went to secondary, poly, uni and realize that I was lucky to have teachers that could talk and make these tough to learn subjects interesting and engaging.
Alot of teachers just decided they are there to read through the slides they prepared or the textbooks provided without giving out examples that the students can relate more.

Agreed to what she/he say. I never excel in Primary and Secondary school system. Only those who are in HIGH SES or have lots of tuition get top of the class in Secondary/Primary. Once i enter polytechnic, i just dominate all my Secondary school peers. And my grade are way better than theirs. i agreed tuition does give them head start but they never learn how to study efficiently as compared to self study where you can explore the ways to learn better.

I’m from punggol pri myself and was in the top class all along. Most of my classmates didnt have tuition and i remember hating my form teacher. My mom always told me to appreciate her and that she really is the best teacher she’s met (im the youngest of 3). I remember crying every other day in pri sch cuz i was always getting scolded but right now, i’ve really learnt to appreciate all that shes done for me and my class. She’s taught us 3 subjects in p3&4 but it became 2 (eng &math) in upper pri.
Thinking about the work she has to mark now, rather than the amount of homework she gave us, it’s really heartwarming. There was like >40 of us in my class, imagine how much rubbish she had to mark? Our class still meets up once a while now even though we’re all already in poly last year/jc graduates.
The times she would join our class for PE in her heels, or during recess as our class played bottlecap soccer at the star wall was really fun. Now that i’m waiting for my Alvl results, I really realised how much a good teacher in pri sch means. I loved math and sci n i thought it was becuz i was good at it. But as i moved on, i realised i didnt like the subjects, i liked her way of teaching. She went out to find good assessment books for us to do so we could improve. (Note: for math in p5, if u even got 98, u’d be ranked 20+ in my class. Most of us didnt have tuition, for math at least)

I only recently came across CNA Insider. Now I am hooked. The series it produces are some of the best I have seen by way of highlighting social issues with objectivity, respect and professionally. At a time when journalism seems to be akin to the oldest profession in the world, CNA Insider should take a bow for keeping the ethos of journalism intact. In this particular series I was very judgemental about Caroline's parenting but having seen the series to the end it appears she is training Kenisha to avoid becoming a couch zombie hooked to online games but be an active individual. As long as Caroline is caring, understand and supportive of Kenisha in her endeavours then Kenisha could become a very resilient and hard working individual.

Stress is put on all primary to college students. If I could change the teachers and every subject I would change them to be this schedule:
    Breakfast
    . Playtime
    . Computer
    Stress Free Time
    . Last

End of the day, they are just kids! They have school, homework, tuition and extra activities after school which can be a little too much for any kid. It shouldn't all be about good grades especially not right now, try different activities, go play with other kids, do fun things and find your passion that's what being a kid should be about. I feel like kids are being taught to never fail, they will end up never taking risks as adults. No primary student should be stressed i mean seriously come on, maybe also teach mindfulness or meditation to help cope with all the pressure.

Nope ur shits not accurate, rich asians are not neccassary hardworking from a young age, they are usually failures in academics but have a talent of creativity, school has nothing to do with the richest peoples subjects cause in life we aint commited to take test for a living thats just a fruad, in life we are just more different and actually intelligent people or some successful people never live in a simple and fulfilling life because of a different way they are raised or their personality that makes em really anti social or hars to socialise, sometimes making em unapproachable because of their standards and pride.

It's not difficult to drop tuition actually. I dropped my English and chinsese tuition during my PSLE year. On top of that, I still had debate competitions, choir and practices. But I fairly well for my PSLE. Giving your child more tuition is not teaching her how to manage her time. It's just giving her more stress. You shld instead encourage her to study on her free time. So she an review her topics on her own pace and not worry about having to rush to tuition.

When I was a kid, my mother never force me into anything. Whatever lessons I want to attend she provides. Whenever I want to stop she allows as well. I get to play. Fast forward 30+ years later, I have learnt nothing. I was too free. Parents/students reading this, take this as the other side of the coin. End of day it’s all about balance.

Furthermore, this will essentially cut out all creativity in her life and she will develop into a rigidity individual without any way to express herself artistically
